Ford Thunderbird (2002 - 2005) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

After being on hiatus for several years, Ford introduced a new Thunderbird for 2002. Returning to the original formula for the Thunderbird, the latest version had a two-seat coupe/convertible layout like the first-generation Thunderbird and retrofuturistic styling to match.

Model Reviewed: Ford T-bird 5.0

Strength:

With the V8,this car has more than enough power to go around.
Plenty of room, especially for a tall person like me.great looks.

Weakness:

The only i don't like about it is traction. In the rain, half throttle
gets the back end sideways and you might as well forget about driving
it in snow or ice.

I'll say how it is.i would not recommend this car for anyone who
wants great mileage or doesn't like to drive big cars.
I would recommend a used thunderbird for anyone
who wants a roomy, family size V8 equipped car.
Plus, the insurnance is alot cheaper than on a
sports car.

Strength:

it has a lot of power(5.0,h.o.)and really gets going, the transmission shifts great and is well matched to the engine,i get about 18-24 mpg-not bad at all for a v8

Weakness:

it is kinda big

i got a deal at 2,000 with 130,000 miles,in mint condition... i have only had to have the swaybar links replaced so far...(they kinda rattled over bumps). it is kinda a big car,but moves along just fine-if youre looking for a family car and sports car in one-this is youre car!

Strength:

It was nice looking and seemed to be a good value when new

Weakness:

Head gaskets in the 3.8 engine blew at 75,000 miles. $2,000 to repair and the car did not run right after that. Seats never felt truly comfortable. Sunroof leaked since new.

I paid about $16,000 for the car. It was "value priced" and you did get a lot for the money. I would NOT recommend any Thunderbird with the 3.8 engine in it. The head gaskets WILL blow on pre 1995 models. Had I bought the V8, this review might be better.

Strength:

Amazing Takeoff, sooooo comfortable, great looks, V-8 is very forgiving,

Weakness:

there is really nothing bad about it, except the gas-useage but hey, if you want a regular car with good gasmileage, then simply do not by a Thunderbird, this car is not for everybody, but it is for me

mine is a 1996 LX with the 4.6L it had 47000 miles when I bought it in Dec 99,I paid 8995$ which I think was very reasonable considering I got the full package, all I am missing is tinted windows and I am getting them done this year
the car is in perfect condition and shortly after buying it I drove with it from Texas to Michigan, from there to Georgia and then it got shipped to Germany, and now it is driving the roads of Europe
until now I never had a problem, even though my intake went a few days ago
I guess it is not too bad because for this problem it has a recall, so a german Forddealer is going to fix it
I see a lot of people complain about their cars, no matter what brand, but I think what makes a big difference is the way you take care of it because after all it needs TLC to keep it up
I change my oil every 3000 miles or sooner, do tuneups, get the better gas and siply drive it nice........just do not let a beginner drive it ......

Strength:

We use this as a family car as well as my fun car - its got lots of oomp and a strong quick engine for those who are heavy on the gas.

Weakness:

the stock tires - they are definately not sticky have slid more than once - I am an experience trained driver - no novice and still find the tires supplied don't stick - replaced immediately

I purchased as an X-lease and would recommend this car to anyone looking for a reasonably priced good powered car - I'm a big guy and it gives a comfortable ride. Rear passenger area good size. Many I work with have paid more and been surprised at what I got for the $$$$. Like this one the best and I get lots of compliments from other drivers on its looks Would buy another if something happened to this one.

Strength:

Awesome torque, 270 foot pounds, no less, out of a 5.0 liter V8 that is only rated at 155 HP. Very classic design, looks better and better compared to modern cars every year. Solid, 176,000 miles and still does not burn oil. Value is very good, car actually appreciates in value over time.

Weakness:

Not for newbie drivers, it can produce enough "go" in a very short time to put an inattentive driver in a very bad situation. Also the massive amount of torque can be less then desirable in less then ideal driving conditions. It's still a Ford, need to keep a sharp eye out for rust, since even though GM had started to use galvanized steel in their car bodies, Ford did'nt at that time. Some parts are hard to get to for service, and you still have to state MONTH and YEAR, when buying parts. Also, they are getting long in the tooth, not for the average beater owner.

1800.00. Yes, but these Fox-3 series T-Birds are getting rarer and rarer, especially the Sport 5.0 liter V8s. Only two years production (1987-1988), and less then 40,000 of the Sport model built. If you can get one in good shape, you are very lucky. Still, they are built like tanks. The value (retail) was 3000.00 when I got it, and it is now up to 3300.00.

If you are into automotive history, and long term relationships, get one. Be aware, due to the advanced age of these beasts, they will need a lot of TLC, and in my own case, I had to correct a lot of benign neglect. Be prepared to spend money and/or time to get it like new, but once you turn the key and go, you will not regret getting one.

I've never had anything that could go like this, still go ahead and take a look at any mid-range large American sports-luxury coupe of the late 80s.

Strength:

Great on gas because it is a 3.8l. It will run with all V6 Mustangs and Cameros but rides way better.

Weakness:

Really big. Has a slight anti-freeze leak.

I got a huge deal on the car.I bought it from a private dealer for $1300 dollars. I've taken about 3 trips with it and it performs awesome.
