Ford Thunderbird (2002 - 2005) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

After being on hiatus for several years, Ford introduced a new Thunderbird for 2002. Returning to the original formula for the Thunderbird, the latest version had a two-seat coupe/convertible layout like the first-generation Thunderbird and retrofuturistic styling to match.

Strength:

the best i would have to say the fast outta the hole power it has with the 5 speed trans and the rear gear ratio in the rear end ,oh and lets not forget the lincon luxeries it has throughout the entire car!

Weakness:

the simple fact that the oil seal on the back of the head , and the simple fact that a new turbo runs ya about $800 for a used one and about 2.000-2.400 for a new one /because they can't be rebuilt

this is the one car i've enjoyed owning ,but it's had it's problems as do other cars .it's been a wonderful family car my family and i have had alot of good times in this 88 t-bird t-coupe and and would like to see ford come back out with another one just like it with newer fuond technology such as cobra powered mustang those are really sweet machines ! ps haveing trouble finding the reason it bowgs down coming outta 1st gear and stays at a stahl and wants to die ! so if someone can help me figure it out that would be great thanks ! steve

Strength:

LOOKS, COMFORTABLE FOR A FAMILY OF 4, LOVE THE DASH

Weakness:

IGNITION WIRES LAST ABOUT A YEAR,TRANSMISSION, IS AS IF IT REFUSES TO SHIFT UP ON HIGH, YOU HAVE TO EASE DOWN ON GAS UNTIL IT FINALLY SHIFTS UP BUT YOU LOOSE THE HP'S, DOORS ARE STARTING TO SQUEAL AND RUST AT THE BOTTOM EDGE I AM REALLY WORRIED BECAUSE THE SPECIAL BLUE TONE IS GOING TO BE HARD TO MATCH

I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A T-BIRD FAN I ALMOST GOT A 1982,BUT HAD TO WAIT 14 YEARS BEFORE OWNING ONE , I HAVE PUT 50,000 MILES AND THESE ARE MY COMMENTS: THE CAR RIDES GREAT ,LOTS OF POWER TO PASS OR GET TO SPEED ,HOWEVER,ONCE IT REACHES 105 THATS IT!! WHICH IS A SHAME SPECIALLY ON LONG TRIPS IN A COUNTRY WITH NO SPEED LIMITS I SERIOUSLY THOUGHT ABOUT CHANGING THE CHIP BUT I FEAR FORD SET IT AT 105 BECAUSE THERE MIGHT BE SOME WEAK LINK WHICH MIGHT BLOW OFF GOING FASTER THAN 105.
THE LOOKS ARE AWSOME I JUST LOVE TO LOOK AT IT AFTER A GOOD WAX JOB, I GUESS I AM LUCKY BUT THE GUYS AT THE FORD DEALER ARE VERY GOOD THEY HAVE PINPOINTED EXACYLY THE PROBLEMS AND NEVER MAKE ME SPEND MORE THAN I SHOULD
I PLAN TO KEEP THIS CAR A LONG TIME

Strength:

Acceleration, Ride, Steering Handling(after mods), throughly an American car. I recommend this car to anyone. I think the engine is awsome.

Weakness:

Transmission Sucks. Ever since the car had about 100,000 miles. Shift were not what they should had been. The trainy was rebuild at 265,000 miles and this is were I started having real problems with it. Vibration/Shudder in torque converter. Unschedule upshifts and so forth. Also power steering rack has been replaced at about 100,000 miles and to these day the power steering does not work as it should. Gave up after $2000 worth in repairs. It remains a mystery. Brake rotors should be bigger at front. I change my rotors every 6 months, unless I go with drilled. Could had come with an optional 5 speed, which would clear a lot of problems.

I have this car since brand new. It was a special order. Love the V8. It handles great (after I changed the front and rear shocks to KONI sport), it accelerates ok with a minor air modification. I absolutely love that the car is roomy (in the front). Currently the car has 275,000 miles on it. I had never had any major engine problems except for the EEC-V and fuel injectors (had to change the EEC twice and a couple of Injectors). It still rides great and I will keep this car till it is ready to be junked.
