Strength:

Great gas mileage, good take off on 1st gear, huge trunk space, great handling.

Weakness:

Paint is falling apart. Rusts easily.

This is my first car, and what can I say.. We have had some good and bad times. When I first got it, I was not happy because she was old and I so wanted a new Ford Mustang. But slowly she grew on me! It started every single time through the cold Chicago winter. The front wheel drive got me out of a foot of snow. And she's got power like no other. I love the 5 speed manual transmission. It still has the original clutch and takes off on first speed like a tiger out of a cage. The gas mileage is incredible! I've replaced a couple of parts: the alternator, battery, and starter. I also replaced all the speakers. The stock speakers were all blown. I think the cone was made of cardboard. Other than that, I'm happy with my car. I was thinking of getting rid of it, but have now decided on upgrading it with performance parts. I will be painting it jet black and adding racing decals, and I will also replace the original wheels (all chipped) with chrome wheels. It has about 200k miles, and I am so sure it will not die anytime soon. This car deserves to come back to life.

The 144 HP engine the rockets it to 60 in 10.5 sec.<---HA but good for a 92. The paint. Easyness to replace things (less than 5 min to change corner markers).

Weakness:

0-60 in about 10 sec. stock after almost 10 years. It looks good, the paint is still perfect except a little faded. Antenna thermostat and interior door handles break. Under the hood mildly rusted in a few places. Interior still great after 170,000 miles.

Strength:

Great gas mileage(avg between 28-31), good acceleration for a 13 year old car. Comfortable ride. High resale value.

Weakness:

As with all foreign cars, repairs are very expensive. Electrical compoments are very unrealiable. Sunroof weepholes clogged about 1 year ago resulting in water overflowing into drivers seat floor. Over the years I have replaced the motor mounts(300), fuel lines(275) ,distributor(450) ,cv joints(300), driver side power window modulator(125). Some rust in wheel well(near gas tank gap). Stock radio/speakers are absoulte crap. Brakes are weak.

Fairly good experience with this automobile. Paid 6k in 1995 with 55,000 miles on it. Today with 140k miles its worth about 2500. Good car for everyday commutes and trips to the mall. However, I've spend quite a bit keeping it running. I would recommend having a electriction/mechanic go through this car before buying.

Strength:

Excellent value purchased w/ 62,000 mi. up to 106,500. Very sporty. I love it! Wouldnt trade it. Expect another 90k miles since it was repaired recently. Love the sunroof. Excellent gas milage!

Weakness:

The dark green paint could not be worse, faded, spotted, nasty, after washing. Cant get a key copy because locks are worn out. Timing belt went out at 90,000. Driver window motor broke.

Very sporty looks. All talk not a lot of engine to back them up. Excellent Honda value. Very fun car! Would reccomend. Can't beat a Honda. Camry probably more reliable, but BORING! Give me an accord any day!

To Live And Die In L.A.
Model Reviewed: Accord EX V6 Coupe

Strength:

There are none anymore (have had the car since Halloween of 1998)

Weakness:

OH MY GOD WHERE DO I BEGIN?
-NO Power; car can't get out of its own way
-NO Style; the cheekiness of the redesigned Accord line, especially the so-called "aggressivley chiseled" Accord Coupe, has worn off...and this car just simply blends into traffic now and gets completely ignored by the huge trucks that surround me every day on my commute. I hate it. For a coupe, it boasts no aggressive sheet metal whatsoever---and that's with the entire factory supplied under body spoiler kit and rear spoiler, and all kinds of extras I put on it...the car gets no "street respect".
-NO Comfort; deathly uncomfortable on long trips..the leather seats are almost German in hardness...they suck and hurt the back. Can't get a comfortable position, and Im average sized. Still feels cramped for a mid sized coupe...Honda needs to take lessons from GM with their Grand Prix and Monte Carlo coupes in learning how to give interior space.
-NASTY SUNROOF RATTLE when sunroof visor is open; makes the entire chassis shake, creak, and feel like it's gonna fall apart---VERY VERY ANNOYING

This list can go on and on. Believe me.

I don't know what I was thinking, folks. That's the only way I could sum up my experience with this vehicle. What a dissapointment. Shame on Honda for tons and tons of marketing hype lavished on this car---from the promises of a "sports car without all the Freudian implications" (as the magazine ads exclaimed) to the method in which Honda's press releases bragged and boasted of the 200 horsepower engine being one of the most powerful in its class....this car of mine has gotten my ass whipped in stoplight shootout after stoplight shootout...everything from 4 bangers to older vehicles out accelerate my Accord. What a dissapointment. You get nothing for the money, plain and simple. And I'm gonna break it down because, not to put too fine a point on it people, I can't wait to get rid of this thing.

Perhaps Dave, a couple of reviews down, from the West Coast, summed it up best regarding the '98-present Accord V6 Coupe..."Don't get impressed by the '200 horsepower' engine...it's meaningless." This couldnt be more truthful. Let me explain the situation first, to help you understand where my reasoning and expectations come from.

I owned a '94 Accord EX Coupe before this one, in white, with the leather, rear spoiler and gold emblem package. I added 15-inch chrome wheels, too, aftermarket, which were a complete waste of money and time because my steering was completely messed up from these cheap rims. Anyway, I was sick and tired of being constantly blown off the line in EVERY SINGLE race I got into with the '94 Accord's 145 horse "VTEC" (what the hell does that do anyway?) engine, so I had my heart set on a '99 Camaro Z28 or Firebird Trans Am to begin wasting some of these punks in their Civics and Altimas...so I sold my '94 to someone at work, and went to the Pontiac and Chevy dealers with family and friends...but General Motors was on strike and I couldnt get a car--anywhere. My father had asked me to consider the new Accord based on the fact that my old one never was in the shop for anything...and I remembered, being an automotive newspaper editor, that the sketches of the new Accord Coupe looked aggressive and downright sporty, with angled, crisp, chisled lines and dual tail pipes...and so I took delivery of my '99 Accord EX V6 Coupe in San Marino Red on Halloween of 1998. Worst mistake I could have made.

But, mind you...my Coupe was LOADED...I ordered it with the under body spoiler kit (Honda speak for ground effects), rear spoiler, stainless steeled exhaust tips (WHY IS THIS EVEN AN OPTION???), tinted glass, sunroof visor, 16-inch alloy wheels (these suck---they're small, weak, and the tires are skinny and look like crap...come on, Honda, give us low profile 17's on the Coupe), fog lamps (one was mounted crooked and looks weaker than the other), and some minor interior mods like cassette player. Now, when I first had the car, and was detailing it on the driveway every day for four or five hours, it would get alot of attention from people---people driving by, people at car washes, people in parking lots---but the styling's novelty has worn off and people don't even notice this car anymore. I constantly get cut off by yuppies in their BMWs, punks in hooked up Jettas and such, and all kinds of SUVs and other big vehicles. It commands NO kind of "street respect" at all---very dissapointing to say the least. It's a V6 Coupe with a body kit and flashy red paint....where is the attention? It gets none.

Don't even get me started about this car's power problem...from the day I had this slow piece of crap, it has gone absolutely NOWHERE off the line..despite what Honda's press crap promised, and despite the claims of "Oh! It's got 200 horses under that hood!" by the company, bottom line is the acceleration sucks. Dave set it the best: Don't get excited over the words...it's meaningless. Off the line, she hesitates and every other vehicle jumps to life and leaves you in the dust...the engine feels like it it's struggling to move..no torque, no quick launches....it takes a REAL HEAVY FOOT to light up the tires, and not that loudly. I didnt expect this car to be a replacement for a Buick Grand National at NASCAR or something, but this is ridiculous....this car has no power for a sporty coupe.

The body also feels like it's coming apart, and I only have 25,000 some odd miles on her----this has been a big concern; now, I dont know if this has to do with the fact that this car was made in America; there has been some speculation about that from other owners. What I can tell you is this; when my sliding interior sunroof shade is open, there is a terrible, annoying creaking and squeaking that seems to rattle down through the entire chassis, and makes the car feel as if it's loose and unconnected when going over bumps or rough roads...a quite uncomfortable feeling. When the slide is shut, the feeling dissapears and the car somehow feels tight again---I cant explain it, but it's making the car feel as if it doesnt have that much time left to it---it's that bad. They talk about American cars falling apart after mileage like this---but my ex-friend's Pontiac Grand Am GT (1999) Coupe feels 100 percent tighter and more connected than my Accord...go figure that out. And reliability? My ABS Brakes weren't working right out of the factory for months---how's that for a so-called Japanese car?

My complaints about this car could never end---right down to the way the 16 inch factory wheels look too wimpy and ugly, to the skinny, non-impressionable dual exhaust pipes...I don't know why I bought it. I will never buy another Honda again...EVER. Now, lets look at other cars in the Accord's class and how they all look and perform better than it...there's the Chevy Monte Carlo---long, low, sleek, sexy, fast; the Pontiac Grand Prix---long, low, sleek, sexy, fast; the Toyota Solara----long, low, kinda sleeker, kinda sexier and looks much better with the Toyota TRD package---not to mention the Mercury Cougar, which is a more modern design. The Honda has no body length to make an impression with on the road; it's the smallest car (next to the Cougar) in the midsized coupe class---it isn't long or sleek...so where exactly does it fit in style wise? The American cars are designed to make an impression on the road---long, big cars with dramatic styling...the Accord offers none of this, yet its supposed to be a mid sized coupe. It merely blends into traffic. Shame on you Honda, for charging me 27 grand for this.

My next car will either be the huge Chevy Monte Carlo SS with the ground effect package, Chevy Camaro with the ground effect package, Pontiac Grand Prix or Firebird---or maybe even the Chrysler 300M (the best looking four door sedan on the market in this price range). Do yourselves a favor...and stay away from the Accord Coupe. It's overpriced and underpowered. People won't get out of your way when they see you coming like they will if you're behind the wheel of a Camaro or Firebird or Mustang. I cant wait to dump this thing. Any comments? Feel free to e mail me.

Strength:

All around solid car, fine engine, surprisingly decent suspension, fast highway cruiser.

Weakness:

This car will never inflame a driver's passion. Manual shift can feel notchy and sticky, stock radio is wimpy, stock tires are not up to the level of the rest of the car.

(pre 1997 Model) - Bought this car (1995 LX manual trans) for my wife, who is not a car person. She loves it, and I have warmed up to it too. The overall driving experience is smooth, controlled, and bland, but in an enjoyable kind of way. The car has no weak spots or bad habits. I prefer it to my vw golf for long trips, though the vw is the clear choice for around town. Honda service has always been good. Resale value is impressive. Can't wait for the stock tires to wear out so that I can put something on that won't roll over and beg for mercy at the first sign of a tight turn:)
