Honda Civic (2010 and older) Midsize | Compact

Honda Civic (2010 and older) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Civic is Honda’s compact car that is offered in sedan and coupe versions. First introduced as a small, inexpensive hatchback in 1972, the Civic has increased in size during its lifetime while continuing to offer excellent fuel economy. The entire Civic line was all-new for 2006.

The basic Civic is available as a sedan and coupe and comes in several trims: DX, DX-VP, LX-S, EX and EX-L. The Civic SI, the performance-oriented trim, offers 57 more horsepower than the base model, a few more performance options and a starting price of around $7,000 more than the base Civic.

The Civic also comes in two eco-friendly options: the Honda Civic Hybrid, which is reviewed separately, and the GX, a hybrid alternative that runs on Compressed Natural Gas. Unfortunately the GX is only sold in California (and other states that have accepted California's Zero-Emission Vehicle regulations). It costs about $10,000 more than a base Civic.

Strength:

Dependable

Weakness:

Lacks power at the start.

Overall, a dependable car. Great on gas and handles well. The LX lacks power when first starting out but is better on the high end. Has a slightly bumpy ride to it.

Strength:

light weight = good performance reliable cheap good mpg saucy body lines friendly to environment

Weakness:

sort of slow stock

I was looking for a reliable car, with plenty of potential to become a badass street ride and this car was perfect, super light weight, (2,360lbs with me in it) saucy body lines, and hell of after market support. It just turned 100 grand and besides normal maintanence has never needed sh$t. Stock it handles well, brakes fast, and picks up all right. I get 40+ mpg on road trips, and never worse than 30 mpg smashin around town. I'll no doubt have this thing out performing exotics in every aspect in just a few years.

Strength:

cheap, great mileage, reliable as anything, cheap to maintain, high build quality, great first car and car to get you through your college and first couple of jobs

Weakness:

not luxurious, but best small car by far, a smart reliable choice, no flash, but no worries- save money and time on something else

Holy crap! this car lasts forever- i am about to hit 200,000 miles and i just drove to Reno with my best mileage ever= 41.6 MPG, using regular gas. The engine actually loosened up afte 30,000 miles- getting better mileage and having more power. The car is so reliable- I may have had only 3 things go wrong in 10 years- the radiator, the distributor and the power steering pump. The CV boots/joints wore out twice, but that is to be expected. Of course, I always change oil and transmission fluid often. And I started using slick 50, duralube, pro-whatever every 30,000 miles. For these high revving engines, I am sure that the additives worked. After adjusting the valves at 50,000 miles and replacing the timing belt at 100,000- the engine did not need ANY tuning. Also, I use a K&N air filter for the life of the car.

What is the deal with getting a short shifter and maybe bigger wheels?

This car is incredible for the price (under 20K). I have always told people to not even waste your time with an Acura RSX-S (24K). With a few performance parts the SI will kick the RSX-S ass. The SI has great response and has no problem getting to the red. Sure it may look a little out of place but just slam on the gas and you will be hooked.

Strength:

Incredible gas mileage, I put in about $12 to $16 every week to fill up the tank. Nice looking car - popular import. Slapping on some 17" rims and droping it a few inches will make it look real slick. High resale value, which is good when I decide to get rid of it and buy something else. Fairly roomy interior. Heated mirrors are good for the cold weather up here in Canada during the winter months.

Weakness:

Very slow car off the line, not enough power (stock 127hp vtec). Stock CD stereo & speakers aren't very loud. The car becomes a bit unstable on the highway at speeds above 120km/hr. The cupholders are useless, be prepared to spill your drink. The rear bumber panel on the right side is drooping somewhat(not flush like the other side, and it wasn't like that when I bought it). I have a hard time shifting into 1st gear from neutral (the shift knob doesn't slide smoothly in the gearbox, and sometimes I need to jam it in before it locks into 1st) Bland interior styling. Sunroof works great, but when i select the moonroof option it doesn't slide all the way back. The vents still blow air even after I've turned it off.

1999 Honda Civic Si (Ex Model in the U.S.) 2 door coupe. Dark Green in color. 5 spd manual. Power windows, doors, sun/moonroof. heated mirrors. air cond. cruise. tilt. remote car starter. This is my first car. Got it with only 29498km on the odometer. The car was pretty much mint when I picked it up, a few minor scratches but barely noticeable. Tires still fresh with lots of tread. Breaks seem good. Clutch wasn't worn out or anything, still very sensitive. However, the gearbox is a bit clunky, especially shifting into 1st. I was originally looking for a '94 to '99 Acura Integra. But I couldn't find one in my price range with low km's on it. I found this car instead, and bought it since it was really cheap for the model year and super low kms. So far, I haven't had any problems with this car. A few minor nuisances such as the stupid cupholders, the driver-side wiper doesn't clean the window very good - I probably need to replace that. Also, for some reason, when i turn off the air conditioning and shut off the fan, the vents still blow out air. WTF? Why does it do that even when I have it turned off. It eventually goes away though. The car runs well for the most part. It's a bit unstable on the highway at high speeds. When it's windy outside or when big semi truck passes by me on the oncoming lane, the car veers off it's straight line. It's small and light, I can zip through traffic pretty good. However, the engine lacks power. Don't get me wrong, the VTEC sounds nice at above 5000rpm, but I don't feel the power when I floor the pedal, the car just doesn't push me against my seat, I only hear the engine scream. It has poor pickup off the line, I wouldn't race this thing cause I'd get smoked.

Strength:

Best fuel economy, i fill it once in 10 days. The neon would need once a week for the same distance. Reliable workmanship. Good interiors. Nice handling. Good looks.

Weakness:

Slippery when wet, bad suspensions. Too light weight(that's how they get the fuel economy higher). Poor quality speakers, even a cheap neon has much better audio system.

This car is average if take all the aspects that make a car. It's reliable, good on fuel and handles well. The fuel economy is awesome, however the car lacks power. 115hp seems too low. It's very light weight, so ride is bumpy on bad roads, and tends to slip a lot in rain and snow. Be careful while turning on high speeds, it might just skid.

Strength:

Nothing big to complain about.

Weakness:

- windshield wipers replaced already(the rubber on both tore right off) - mediocre A/C - can't see the a/c light in the sun - seats seem small(I'm 6') - steering wheel is slightly off center(i haven't hit any curbs - just braked hard into corners)

Overall very happy with it. Just wish it had more power - not sure how much difference it would have made to get the Si with a whole 127hp compared to my 115hp. Why did they have to put the 160hp engine in the UGLY hatchback?!!!
