Honda Civic (2010 and older) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Civic is Honda’s compact car that is offered in sedan and coupe versions. First introduced as a small, inexpensive hatchback in 1972, the Civic has increased in size during its lifetime while continuing to offer excellent fuel economy. The entire Civic line was all-new for 2006.

The basic Civic is available as a sedan and coupe and comes in several trims: DX, DX-VP, LX-S, EX and EX-L. The Civic SI, the performance-oriented trim, offers 57 more horsepower than the base model, a few more performance options and a starting price of around $7,000 more than the base Civic.

The Civic also comes in two eco-friendly options: the Honda Civic Hybrid, which is reviewed separately, and the GX, a hybrid alternative that runs on Compressed Natural Gas. Unfortunately the GX is only sold in California (and other states that have accepted California's Zero-Emission Vehicle regulations). It costs about $10,000 more than a base Civic.

Strength:

Good acceleration (8.9 sec 0-60, 17.1 @ 81.7 1/4mi - totally stock w/82,000 miles, 83¡ÆF, ~500ft elev.), decent handling (depends heavily on tires). Good reliability (CV joints are weak) - other than that a good car. pretty good cargo room with the rear seats folded down. 5-spd tranny is great - best shifting fwd transmission i've ever used - even better than most rwd transmissions i have experience with. get one without power steering if possible - you dont need it on such a light car, manual steering has wonderful road feel and dosent sap your power (probably why my car seems a little quicker than most stock civics).

Weakness:

No low end torque - must run over 4500rpm to make any power... engine seems to take it though, i've had it for over 60,000 miles now and probably redline it 5 times a week - no engine trouble at all. parts are way too expensive.

this car is great but i'll never buy another japanese car because the parts are way too expensive. when this thing finally breaks its gonna suck.

Strength:

Very spacious, plenty of head room and trunk space. Back seat passengers need not deal with a hump in the middle of the car anymore. Great handling, excellent brakes and gas mileage! I drove from Tampa to Miami on one tank of gas!!!

Weakness:

Very hard to parallel park since you cannot see the back of the car. At speeds over 80 mph the car tends to lose a little control and get swayed by the wind. The rear windows need a better defrost system. An ABS brake option on the LX is not offered.

I am very grateful to have a civic after driving an eclipse. It may seem like a car that almost everyone has, but there is a reason for that! The gas mileage alone is a good enough reason to own one, but the drive is pleasant as well.

Strength:

Very reliable, no problems at all. great gas milage. great steering. love the fact that the steering wheel is tan (but they have changed it to black in 2001 models!) and that steering wheel can lowered as much as it can (makes you feel in control). Great front visibility. Great turning radius. nice looking gauges. Great brakes! very quiet.

Weakness:

hard to see the back, parallel parking is impossible till u get used to the car. Why isn't there a cigarette lighter and ashtray in 98 models?! cleaning the back window is a hassle cuz it's too far back. Why is the cassette player all the way down there? Also my dealer sucked.

All and all it is a good car especially once you get used to parking with your eyes closed. Aside from what I already said, the seats could use a little more cushioning....
What makes it worthwhile is the fuel economy and the reliability of a Japanese car. It is much nicer looking and has greater front visibility than the Corolla.
I would buy another one, but not from Miller Honda. Great value for your buck.

Strength:

The car looks stylish and is laid out fairly well on the interier.
Gas milage is sometimes unbelievable sometimes. I have to check with my wife to see if she put gas in it.

VTEC engine is fast and high reving making it fun to drive

Weakness:

People say Honda is reliable and that's why I bought the car. Well the track record for this car is not proving it. At 7000 miles the car was serviced for vacuum spikes the computer was detecting. Then again at 9000 miles and 15,000. It was then the computer was changed.

The manual transmission sometimes seems to have a problem moving from 2nd to 3rd which Honda claims "just sometimes happens". I looked on a number of web sites and no one else seems to have this problem.

When changes the breaks I noticed the under was rusting. Not something I expected after only a year.

The car is a good car all around, but like any car don't expect it to be maintance free. I recomend it for those want something sporty and affordable. I probally won't purchase another again because I still like the feeling of the bigger cars with interior space and larger engines.

Very fun to drive. Great gas mileage (32 - 50mpg). Good brake feel. Good shifter feel (5 speed). Manual steering gives good feedback and is not too hard to steer. Doesn't attract attention.

Weakness:

I can sit in my driveway and see the rust spreading right before my eyes. Fragile bumpers. Doesn't attract attention.

Buy one. Don't buy a rusty one.

Everything!! Great acceleration, great fuel economy car, good sound system, and its a HONDA what do you expect

Weakness:

but Honda could of put better rims on the top of the line model and could of stick to a double wishbone suspension

Overall its a great car got many add-ons like splash guards, moonroof visor, spoiler, floor mats, gold emblem, and chrome tip. The car has a strond engine for 127 HP and accels great and can be awesome after Greddy Exhaust system, DC Sports header, and AEM Air Intake Sytem.

Model Reviewed: Honda Civic EX 4 Dr 4 spd. Auto

Strength:

Great looks, safety features, gauges high and handy, good gas mileage, comfortable, visibility, pickup (and with a V-4 127 bhp!), Honda reliability, entry/exit, roominess, cargo/trunk space, build quality, ride, steering feel, foot rest, arm rest, FLAT REAR FLOOR IN BACK SEAT PROVIDES A TON OF LEG ROOM!

Weakness:

Leather option not available, interior bland even on EX (which is most upscale), radio may short out, I have received bad electric shocks getting out of the vehicle (probably due to the fact that I have a wool coat and the interior is cloth), cruise control button not on sterring wheel- takes a few days to get used to, arm rest too short, dashboard vents are confusing to position, price can be pretty steep

This is my first Civic, and I must say, I am very pleased. I received a great deal on the car, paying just over $18,000, but the Civic EX 4 door with 4 speed automatic can spill into $20,000. The build quality of this car is great, it never jolts or rocks over dips or bumps in the road. I was very suprised to find excellent pickup on a car with a V-4 127 bhp engine. The car was clocked going 0-60 mph in 8.1 seconds. Low speed acceleration is great. The gas mileage is very high, ranging between 33-39 mpg, peaking at the high 40s in cruise control down the highway (from what I've been told). Everything is very easy to reach, as the dashboard is high and sloped, positioned right next to the driver. The only problem I really had is that the interior is SOMEWHAT plain considering this is a top of the line model. I don't care though, the car is extremely sharp looking. This is a great car and I highly recommend this over the others in its class. Its main competetor, the Ford Focus, is very underpowered compared to the Civic.

Strength:

Gas mileage, styling. I specifically purchased the 2-door model, as I like coupes. Only the Chevrolet Cavalier and Ford Zx2 are genuine coupes in the small car business. Other small-car makers (Dodge Neeon, Mazda Protoge, Nissan Sentra, etc.) wake up and smell the coffee--if you want business, make more body styles!! Perhaps thats why Civics are so popular? The Civic is available in 2, 3, AND 4 door body styles, more choices, means more $$$ for the car makers!

Weakness:

Acceleration -- every little hill, speed reduces. Small gas tank. Jumpy and jittery ride, not great handling (I am used to rear-wheel drive handling). Noise, extreme road noise. Poor rear visibility, changing lanes requires care.

I recommend it for reliabitliy and popularaty.

It is small, smooth, sweet. It's lowered 17inch rims, intake, headers, exhaust, and euro tail are just a few to say what's on my Civic. The strengths that I like about is the abundent aftermarketfor them.

Weakness:

None that I can thinnk about.

I would recommend it to any one young and old looking for a car. A stock Honda is a good looking car, But if you are an enthusiast like me you will want to put your own little touch into it and make it origianl. You make the choose just remember, make the right one and go HONDA

Strength:

Great gas mileage. Roomy (I used to have a Prelude- everything is roomy compared to that!), easy to drive, looks great and is a great value. It's the total package.

Weakness:

BAD electric shocks when you get out of the car (not all of the time though). I talked to a dealer about it and he said it was "probably because of the new tires they put on." Meaning they didn't absorb as much of the electrical charge as the old tires had. In the winter, you will probably shock yourself a lot on any other car anyway, but it seems to be VERY bad with the civic. I hope the Honda higher-ups read this- this is, by far, the worst feature on the car! The only other minor thing is that the cup holders are right in front of a little storage area where I hold my CD's and I am constantly moving my water or soda to get a new CD. That's not really a bid deal though.

Overall, for the price, there isn't a better car. A car is the worst investment you can make, and obviously we all have to have one. Why spend $50,000 for a luxury car, when you can get a high quality, great looking, fun car like a Honda Civic for so much less?
