Honda Civic (2010 and older) Midsize | Compact

Honda Civic (2010 and older) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Civic is Honda’s compact car that is offered in sedan and coupe versions. First introduced as a small, inexpensive hatchback in 1972, the Civic has increased in size during its lifetime while continuing to offer excellent fuel economy. The entire Civic line was all-new for 2006.

The basic Civic is available as a sedan and coupe and comes in several trims: DX, DX-VP, LX-S, EX and EX-L. The Civic SI, the performance-oriented trim, offers 57 more horsepower than the base model, a few more performance options and a starting price of around $7,000 more than the base Civic.

The Civic also comes in two eco-friendly options: the Honda Civic Hybrid, which is reviewed separately, and the GX, a hybrid alternative that runs on Compressed Natural Gas. Unfortunately the GX is only sold in California (and other states that have accepted California's Zero-Emission Vehicle regulations). It costs about $10,000 more than a base Civic.

Strength:

The car looks amazing and sporty for a good price. Reliability and gas mileage are incredible. Easy to buy aftermarket accessories for.

Weakness:

Lack of power and honda doesn't give many features with the lower end models ie. no a/c, manual locks and windows. Plain interior. Honda is very strict with their warranty. Any modifications will void it.

This car is my love. There is an import culture out there. There are civic clubs, import shows and drag races that are fun to go to because they give ideas of what a civic can look like with a little extra money put in to it. Nothing beats it's reliabiltiy, resale value, and simple design that will keep it in style for a long time.

Strength:

Very attractive, good high-end power, roomy for size, smooth shifter, flashy milano red.

Weakness:

I was a bit disappointed with the overall finish. The interior is as plain as it gets. Low-end power is an oxymoron, milano "arrest me" red, cheap looking hubcaps, and factory stereo system.

I paid premo for my car becuase I like an idiot, I bought it the first week the 2000 models came out. It's probably just me but the car feels kinda' cheap. I miss the low-end power of my Grand Am but the Civic really performs when it hits VTEC at around an unholy 4500 RPM. Being raised on American cars, I hate taking it above 3500. Another decision that I made that lacks all intelligence was not getting the Si model which I'm considering selling my car for at the present time. The EX is nice, but it won't get you noticed like the Si will. The seats lack a little cushion and the clutch feel is real light and takes some getting used to. The factory stereo really doesn't do this car justice. Overall it's a nice "first new car" but I was somewhat disappointed with it.

Strength:

Reliablity, durablity and economy. Talk about Value!

Weakness:

Road noise is a little above average.

I love this car. When you drive it for awhile you get the feeling that it loves to run and won't likely let you down. If a domestic maker made a car as long lived I would consider it. This is the definition of VALUE. You could pay more for a high level car or less for others, but for what you'll be getting in the longrun, you'll never get more transportation for the money.

Strength:

maintenance or the lack for the need of maintenance
my civic dx has power as long as you use the higher octane gas.

Weakness:

Outside noise, accessories (cassette player, sunroof) give out long before any mechanical problems.

15,000(sunroof, air, spoiler,am/fm cassette)
My 93 has 218,000 miles, had only two tune-ups (numerous oil changes and tires)going for 300,000
Car still runs smoothly, no engine noise (just road noises)sometimes I have to turn off the radio to see if the car is still running when stopped at a light.
Looking forward to buying the insight or another civic.

Model Reviewed: Civic EX Coupe

Strength:

The Civic EX coupe is a satisfying automobile. You buy the coupe because you don't have any squalling brats to port around, like the sporty lines, but still want economy. It delivers this compromise to perfection: It looks good, goes well, and handles nicely for a tarted-up economy car. I have been happy with my Civic EX.

Weakness:

The seats are not wonderful. The acceleration is lacking for its 127 hp unless you really work the tach near red-line (when it goes well). The sunroof controls should be central, not on the driver's side near the mirror control. The interior is bleak and gray unless you like the THX1138 approach.

An excellent automobile which lacks character despite its obvious refinement. An enigmatic statement? I might have thought so until I drove a Saab for a month. The Honda Civic EX Coupe is SO refined and smooth that you may not appreciate it if you are accustomed to Japanese autos.

Strength:

reliable, good gas mileage, 160 hp DOHC VTEC, 4 wheel disks, strut tower brack (ugly though), sunroof, etc. to much to list.

Weakness:

Have to bring the RPM's up past 5500 (for VTEC to kick in) to get some power out of the car.

You couldn't find a new car that is more fun to drive for 17,000 bucks. The car easily surprises most mustangs and camaros on the road. Lots of modifications available. If you want a car for in town driving, this is not the car for you though. The car loves to be pushed all the way to it's 8000 RPM redline. If you want a car with torque dont buy a 4 cyl, buy a Grand Am GT or something.

I've own many cars and bought this one as a second car. It was 5 years old at the time and the least I ever paid for a car. Guess what, best car I've ever owned. It now has 190K on it and I have only replaced Brakes, Timing belt and Oils. It starts in -30 C days with out a problem.

Just about everything you could ask for.

Weakness:

Needs sixth gear for highway speeds.

Yeeehaaaw!!! Bulletproof reliability, with that drive it like you stole it kind of fun. I can't begin to tell you how much fun this car is on twisty back roads. Just when you thought you pushed it too far, it proves you wrong once again. Granted, if you want it to go fast you have to make that engine scream like a banshee, but it doesn't seem to mind, it's a Honda, it's meant to take it. You might actually find that sound near the redline rather exhilarating. For the icing on the cake, the car is perfectly well mannered for city driving also. The transmission is great, the shifts are short and seemless. The engine has a pleasing sound contrary to what some people say. On top of everything, I still manage to get 31 MPG. All the ergonomics that you expect from a honda are present on the inside. All the controls are where they should be. Seats are very supportive and have plenty of adjustability even for those 6' 3" folks like myself. Two people in the back seat is very comfortable, three you might make some enemies.
The ride is smooth, so is the acceleration. Power is not a problem (unless you're into drag racing corvettes, but it will give any Mustang or Camaro a run for the money) and at $17,700, with every possible option, it's definitely a lot of bang for the buck. The stock Si accomplishes what many aftermarket companies have been attempting to do with Civics for years. But... Honda provides a 3 year warrantee and a history for reliability that can't be beat. Plus if you are into modifications, there is A LOT you can do with this car. If you are thinking about buying one, don't hesitate. Get your name on the list for one now.
Again, I talk too much, but it is a great practical car with roller coaster fun.
