Strength:
195hp 2.2L DOHC VTEC 16 Valves I4 engine, Smooth shifting 5 speed manual transmission, comfort, style, ATTS system
Weakness:
Lack of low end power, wish the car could be a lighter This car is superb. It''s fun to drive and still comfortable. This is the first Honda I have ever own. I bought this back brand new back in August, 1997 and I still be having fun with this car until now. I used to own a Chevrolet Camaro Z28 but after driving the Prelude, I''m really glad that I sold the Z28 for this car. My car have 130,000 miles right now and even after I used this car for daily driving and going road racing once in a while, this car don''t give me any problems at all unlike my Z28 which gave me a massive amount of problems. Too bad Honda discontinue this car because I''m looking forward on how the next Prelude will be. Similar Products Used: 1995 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 |

Prelude SH
Strength:
Acceleration, handling, and gorgeous looks. Lots of aftermarket accessories to increase performance and looks.
Weakness:
Wish it came with a leather interior option. Wow! Never thought I would own my dream car; a 2001 Satin Silver Prelude SH with all accessories, including brushed aluminum trim. I have owned 2 Accords throughout my life (81 and 91), and both were great cars, but this takes the cake! I have to watch myself to make sure I don''t "accidentally" speed too much because of the little pressure needed to accelerate. I will always keep this car b/c of discontinued production. My next car will be an Acura NSX, but I probably won''t get that until I retire ;-) My wife drives a 2000 Ford Mustang, and the interior is already falling apart. The acceleration on the Mustang sucks, and it just feels like a heavy car. The Prelude actually becomes a part of you when driving it. You feel connected somehow, and the handling is superior to any other car I''ve driven. Similar Products Used: 81 & 91 Honda Accord, 96 Nissan Maxima, 2000 Ford Mustang |

Strength:
Heated side mirrors, heated seat, integrated antenna in windshield, and front wheel drive. Is this car made for Canada or what? :) Incredibly smooth and loaded with refinement. Prelude has needed power on demand too. (just stay at around 5g''s and punch it and see others'' jaws drop!) An added calculated bonus is it''s resale, it will be incredible now that it is discontinued. ie remember the CRX anyone?
Weakness:
Well I did get smoked by a 00 Firebird RAM-AIR on the highway! You have to watch out whenever anyone in a BMW, BENZ, AUDI or Stang wants a piece of a Prelude. But being a part of that crowd is already rewarding in itself. Isn''t it? on a side note, auto insurance is not cheap. Okay i read all the reviews for this car and have decided and bought the Prelude used, but with a factory 3 year warranty from Honda. It has a very smooth engine and does pack good power. ie A/C when on is almost un- detectable which is totally incredible! Looks and feels awesome whenever you pullup to a boyracer and you both know that you can dust his GSR and SIR. Similar Products Used: Tercel,Grand am,CRX, S13 240sx. This balances all of the above, easy on gas, big enough for safety, fast and manueverable while being sporty at the same. |

Strength:
Very user friendly, very civilized and comfortable. 5spd with the vtec is so much fun its intoxicating! If you''re still hung up on the looks, forget them!! Once you live with this car you will regret not buying it sooner!
Weakness:
Could use a stiffer suspension but that could be modified. If you just drive highway its a dream the way it is. At 30k(18k miles) rear left bearing went. (warrantied) Apparently, this is quite common on this model, according to the dealers. No lumbar support! Speedometer seems to overread. I timed myself several times using milepoints and i was reading 120k(75 mph) and I was really doing 114! Also, 2 or 3 times I topped it out at just over 240(150mph)!! But i really think it was more like 230. However, the odometer and trip meter are dead accurate, so it must just be the actual needle Being my 4th generation prelude,I can truly say this is the most refined by far, my last car;93 SR, was up there too, but not like this; no more rattling sunroof for example. This car is just awesome to drive, I just cant stay out of the vtec range. The car is definitely more civilized than the last, which is not always a good thing. You sit up a little higher, the suspension is a bit softer, the cabin is quieter, all making long drives painless, however, it''s rock solid at any speed on the highway but head into twisted roads at high speeds and expect some excess (for a prelude) body roll and squatting, especially when compared to the last prelude which I felt was flatter and stiffer around the turns. Perhaps the SH has a stiffer suspension, I don''t know. This is not to say its out of control, there is exceptional balance on an obviously stiffer frame.I said I''d never buy this car when I first saw it but I did in the end, (nothing compares). My only problem was with the new headlight style, but this car is so great in every way that it helps the looks grow on you. And I get constant compliments on this car too which is something that surpised me. The last car had the 160hp engine but it felt like it had a flatter curve on acceleration wheras this one is a little weak down low, but when the vtec kicks in, theres a lot more power all the way to 7500 rpm! The 200 hp engine is much faster overall. I definitely do not regret purchasing this vehicle, it''s so sad that this unique high quality model is being dropped from the honda line. Strength:
Gas mileage, ride, steering, oil consumption, speed, body style, interior, GREAT LOOKS!
Weakness:
Weakness? It''s a prelude! My 87 prelude is an awesome car. I bought it for $200.00 and put it on the road. To date my car only has $600.00 into it. It has 375 000 KMS on it, and it runs like a top. It doesn''t use a drop of oil. The car has never even hinted at letting me down. Gas mileage is great, has a smooth ride, and nice steering(manual steering). Strength:
Transmission and steering are about the best you could expect. Top end power from engine is awesome.
Weakness:
Lack of low end. Pizza cutter tires are sht. Standard Bolt on upgrades do little. Absolutely the best car I have ever driven. Replaced ''97 Accord EX. Owns the ILL tollways, doesn''t draw much attention from the storm troopers. Excellent steering, handling. Best 5-speed ever, 6-speed like RSX/celica would be nice. Engine is nice, 25 mpg everywhere. ATTS wants to spin the car like a mustang in the wet. Similar Products Used: Civic Si, Integra, Mustang GT, Celica, GTI |

Weakness:
The back seats leave something to be desired because the only time somone will be using them is if they are REALLY small or the trip is REALLY short I love this car! After working my ass off in school I finally convinced my parents that I deserved a new car and for the money I don''t think i could ahve gotten a better buy. This car looks fast, responds fast, and IS fast. Sure there are other cars at my school that are faster than my prelude. But everyone I have seen has barely beaten my car and has done so with the help of a turbo or a supercharger. For the money this is one of the fastest N/A cars around and with some time, a little $$, and some aftermarket N/A parts my car will be THE fastest car in school. Speed is all well and good but it''s just stupid unless you can control it. The 4 Wheel ABS on this car has saved my ass more than a few times during sudden freeway traffic stops. That combined with the awesome handeling that only a front wheel car can deliver makes this an excellent and safe buy. Similar Products Used: None |
