Strength:
Handling is good and the gas mileage is still economical(up to 75mph).
Weakness:
Less than 1 year old, doors seals fail, rain completely floods car. Same time, glove compartment latch breaks dumping all contents into flooded floorboard. Entire inside floorboard carpeting replaced. After market cruise control (installed at purchase by dealer) fails. Company is out of business, neither they nor car dealer honored warranty. 2yrs old. Shifting synchronizer is replaced three times. Same time period, @ 36,000mls, timing belt shreds causing valves to be bent. Car manual states timing belt "inspection" @ 60,000mls. Too far from authorized dealer(2.6hrs) for service. Stranded for 1wk. Hotel expensed incurred. Fixing it voids warranty. After 3 months correspondence, Hyundai refunds expenses($1500.00) but no Hotel $ or warranty extension. Heater hose breaks, fouling up A/C. $700+ repair bill. 5yrs old, stereo quits, unexplained. The car runs good at 86,xxxmls. However, the pain and disappointment of having a brand new car(1992-1995) was ridiculous. I bought the car to be reliable. The fact that is still runs good at 86,000mls is testimony to my upkeep, not the reliability of the car. To date, car runs fine, still gets good gas mileage. Religious with preventative maintenance. Plan to keep it as it is still sturdy, no rust(but needs a paint job). Needs basic 90,000mls replacement parts(belts, water pump, seals, etc). Will not buy from Hyundai again. I am not a Hyundai believer. Similar Products Used: Go cart. The Elantra is better, marginally. |

Strength:
Excellent reliability. Good pick-up. Nice color and good looks.
Weakness:
Plastic parts seem too break often. Poor gas mileage for a 4cyl 1.6L with a manual transmission. Excellent car. Purchased car with 68k miles and now it has 102k miles. No problems what so ever, except for a rear wheel bearing. Gets me from point A to B with no problem. Manual transmission has long throw but is smooth and easy to shift. Overall, excellent car. Similar Products Used: 1988 mercury Tracer. Doesn't compare. Much better. |

Bells and whistles.. .. electric windows.. gadgets etc. the ergonomics are very good.. Colors available are excellent.. Radio is very nice.
Weakness:
Plastic breaks everywhere.. peals warps..sensors fail causing engine trouble.. durability is low..parts are not quite as available in parts stores. The radio security is un-necessary.. It is too difficult to steal in the USA. I would not reccomend it unless you plan to only use it for a short time. Say 2 to 5 years. It will be a car you will want to sell after that for more reliability. It proubably would rate above the Yugo and below most otheres. Similar Products Used: Similar Prouducts.. other foreign cars.. these cars wear out 20 percent faster.. over 100k miles is pushing it with interest in quality of ride and reliability. |

Elantra VE
Strength:
Great European styling, quite engine, smooth ride, fully loaded. For the price, this has got to be one of the best buys on the market today.
Weakness:
I'm hard pressed to find weaknesses. I've read some complaints about the flimsy sheet metal and paint finish - I have not experienced these problems. If I had to find faults, they would be as follows. The fuel efficiency is not as good as expected. I'm hoping that it gets better over time. My car did not come with floor mats. Cruise control is adjusted by an odd little column located behind the steering wheel to the bottom right - I prefer it on the left and higher up or on the steering wheel. And...that's about it. With the redesign for 2001, a great little engine, a smooth ride and all the options available with the VE model, the Elantra is a fantastic value! I highly recommend it. Everything! My new 2001 Elantra came with no defects that I could find. I had expected some compromise in quality, considering the low price, but I've been extremely impressed. The acceleration is much better than in the Honda Civic, which surprised me. Between the comfortable seating (lumbar support!),intelligent cabin layout, smooth ride and good handling, I feel as if I should have paid a great deal more for the car. With the money I saved over some of the higher-priced competitors, I was able to add a moonroof and other nice options. My long commute each day is a lot more enjoyable now.
Weakness:
Not many! I wasn't too thrilled with the color selections (last year's were better) but I ended up with the dark gray and have gotten lots of good feedback on it. And although adjusting the driver's seat is very easy, power seats would have been a nice touch, considering it has power everything else. A year ago I would never have imagined myself purchasing a Hyundai, but after shopping around, I became a believer. When I saw what they'd done with the design for 2001, I thought I was looking at a European car. It is a great car for a great price, and I have recommended it to a number of people already. Similar Products Used: I test drove a number of similar ones, including the Civic and Corolla, and liked this one better. It seemed to accelerate more smoothly and the breaks felt solid. I also felt more bumps and minor road contours with the Civic than with the Elantra. And it certainly compares favorable with my old Dodge! |

reliable, good motor, great high way power, comfortable, good handling and brakes that have save my life several times by keeping me out of accidents, great price, comes loaded with everything needed. Well built for it's price. The rear bumper on my car has survived 3 cars hitting it in parking lots with no damage.
Weakness:
the Auto tranny sucks it is just geared wrong for the city but it is very good at high ways speeds. , cup holders are in the wrong place and blocks the stereo, dash rattles some times and loud motor that drinks gas when pushed. Good value for the money, but also a good dealer is important, my car had all the bugs worked out before I was allowed to pick it up, many other people with the same model and year have had trouble due to dealers not inspecting the car before it leaves. Very good in the snow and rain, I would get another hyundai but only from the same car dealer. Also for $6000 less than the civic ex I traded in for it, it has proven more reliable, Honestly before I got the Elantra I would have never have given any hyundai a chance. Similar Products Used: We also have a y2k neon, corrolla and drove a 99 civic before I got the Elantra and 36,000 km with no major problems, the civic was in the dealer 3 times in the first month and the neon sits in the drive way since no one wants to drive it. |

Strength:
Quiet, smooth stable ride for a sub compact category car
Weakness:
Some squeeky sound coming from the rear viewing mirror when passing by bumpy roads. Some hissing sound from air filter could be heard if you are accelerate slowly with 1st gear (must turn off your radio and air-con). but I think the hissing sound is normal because when I open up the boot of other makes/model, there is also hissing sound (air intake) when you step and release the accelerator. I paid about US 48,000 for it. In Singapore dollar is S$86,000. Nice car. God I wish cars in Singapore could be cheaper. Similar Products Used: None |

Good car for a while
Weakness:
Timing belt First 35000 miles the timing belt broke. The dealer did repair it, but after, the car just didn't run right. I had replaced the belt at 85000 miles, now wadda ya know? at 100000 miles the timing belt is broke. Trashed my engine. I wouldn't recommend this car to Bill Clinton. Similar Products Used: None |

hmmmmm NONE!! I've noticed the quality of the Hyundai cars have been improved so much last couple of years. The reliabilities are rated as good as Hondas. I've seen rating for Elantra in website somewhere and it shocked me.. they were rated better than Civic's.. I'm not trying to say anything bad about other manufactures but.. I've encountered problems with 96 Maximas and 2000 Honda CR-V EX. These cars are supposed to be very nice car which never go bad or have any problems. I only had 2001 Elantra for only couple of days and I haven't had any problems. :) Similar Products Used: sentra, civic, protoge, and focus: too expensive and they use only cheap plastics inside.. see it for yourself.. |
