Strength:

Engine is great, not too loud. Stereo sound is really impressive for such a "cheap" car. Very roomy. All the accessories you need are there.

Weakness:

When I bought the car, it had been re-built from a previous accident. So I am not sure if that has caused my transmission to act up or not. I have to start off in Drive, and then shift into Over Drive when I get passed 45mph in order to shift into 4th gear. That kind of stinks. Also, sometimes it down shifts on me, and then up shifts again. I believe it is still under warrenty, so we'll see. Sometimes my car will stall on me while waiting at a stop, but only when I first start out from it sitting for a couple of hours or over night.

From the moment I set eyes on this car, I was hooked. The styling is really sleak and impressive. The interior is really great, and really roomy! I have been in cars with little or no leg room, but this has so much leg room, my mom doesn't want to ride in any other car but mine. I think this car will last me a great while.

This is my first car, but compared to other cars that I have driven, this is the best. It is actually really fun to drive.

Strength:

Comes with lots of great features, including a really nice sound system. There is plenty of room in the backseat for all of your friends, and a roomy trunk for vacations. The sunroof has never leaked, and after 52,000 miles, I've never had a problem under the hood. The gas mileage is also better than any car I've ever had.

Weakness:

The paint job sucks. If the slightest thing touches this car, you get to see a nice big spot of the base paint underneath. Therefore, be very careful with your keys when unlocking the door! Also, I've had a lot of problems with the automatic windows. Sometimes they won't come back up after you roll them down, which was really crappy this winter. I don't know if this is just MY car, but it has never been in correct alignment since I've had it. I've taken it to all different people, but no one can get my steering wheel to stop vibrating.

Overall, a great car for the money.

Strength:

Roomy for a compact. Has enough pep, even on a highway. Standard features are all there. Hyundai has excellent cust. support. Also with 130hp and 140 in the 2L it makes it quick enough to take a few Hondas of the line.

Weakness:

Not too many to mention. Car could use some cupholders in the rear seat. The brakes are a little testy, and the engine can be a little loud (but that's when pushing the car to high speeds)

I'm pretty impressed with this vehicle, performance and price. I test drove many cars before it and made the Elantra my final purchase. Seeing as though my father has worked for Ford, Mazda, Car Canada and various other dealers, I got to test drive this car without being too bias. I chose it for it's comfort and price, let's face it you're not gonna get a great luxury automobile without forking out some cash, so don't tell that your car is more comfortable than a leather sofa. A great buy i believe, warranty holds up to anyone else's and I rather enjoy the fact that Hyundai have remarkable customer service.

The doors are still attached!

Weakness:

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMA have you got that kind of time?

Still gets me where I gotta go...usually. If the gas mileage wasn't soooooooo bad I might be able to drive it further than the corner store. Everytime you hit a stone on the road your front wheel alignment is thrown outta wack. The "power windows" work if you don't mind waiting twenty minutes for them to do up. I have not seen a weaker cupholder in my life...one day I thought about using the cupholder and it broke. The dealer is hot so lukily my car breaks down all the time and I get to see him. Fortunately I have a newborn so all that rattling that the car does don't go to waste. I've seen cars suck before...but these are the suckiest line of cars that ever sucked. Car is the cheapest piece of #$@* I have ever owned. You won't set off a metal detector with this hunk of plastic. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!

Strength:

* Strong powerplant
* easy to use and view dashboard
* good seats
* 4 air bags!!!
* 10 year or 100,000 warrenty
* door feels solid when shut!

Weakness:

* a little tight in the back seat -- but then again I'm 6'3" :-)
* strange oder -- like buring oil when we 1st picked it up (must have been some sort of spry to protect the exhust while on the boat

Well I didn't want a Hyundai -- they are small, smoke oil, and last 40K miles. Let me just say the same was set about the Honda Civic when it came over to the states :-) But this is a new car it handles better then then the other "players" and it costs less. Plus the salesperson treated me with respect and kind of stayed quite while I was driving (but was there to ask any question) unlike the Honda and toyota dealer that kept talking about the car while I was driving (I think if the car can't "talk" to me then I don't want to drive it everyday) all in all I would buy an other one when the time comes!

Strength:

The size of the car is its best quality.

Weakness:

The door handle has broken off twice.
The transmission has been replaced and then had to be redone or something because it started lurching forward and depressing the brakes on its own.
The tape player doesn't work.
The windshield had to been replaced because of a crack and when they put on the new glass they informed us that had we been in a serious accident the people in the front might have been killed because the glass was not installed properly.
Now, just yesterday, I was at work and found out that the starter or the engine is not working.
I'm not sure whether or not this is a manufacturer problem, but I would never suggest this car. Yes, the warranty looks good along with the price, but the minute you hit over 60,000 miles (at least in my case), they won't cover the numerous things that go wrong.

This car has given my husband and I nothing but problems. It was purchased as a used car and I can only imagine what this car has been through.

Excellent car -I was worried about buying a Hyundai - My Hundai I bought when it had 19miles on it and now it has over 62,000 and I have never had any major mechanical problem - Overall I like the car - However the resell value sucks! As far as ride we have made several 1500 mile trips in the car and it always performs great!

Strength:

Economical, 31 MPG gas mileage, very tight, very quiet. Manual transmission is very smooth. Car has decent styling and is well equiped. Everything worked as delivered. Wonderful warrantee and free roadside service...which I hope I never need.With 140HP and manual trans the car has reasonably good pickup. It can get out of its own way.

Weakness:

Everything has worked as one would expect (but does not always get) from a new car. Would like power seats. Adjustible lumber support seems low.

(2000 Model) - This is a fine car. The consumer reviews on the Edmunds web site were very good and the car is living up to the reviews. The car may not be for everybody but it deserves a serious look but compact buyers.

Weakness:

No power seats.

Engine way to REV happy.
Other then those minor in convinces, nothing much to write home about.

If you have been looking for a nice sporty subcompact look no further. Watch out Japan, make room for Korea. The Elentra GLS is a nice compact car with plenty of amenities & spacious cabin room that rivals most cars in the higher tax bracket. For 15.3k, the car came fully loaded. Six speaker CD Player, sunroof, alloy 15" rims, cruise control, pinstripe detailing, and remote control alarm & door opener. Compare to most automakers this is a fairly excellent deal. If you are looking for a nice family car that is fun to drive, hands down excellent warranty, and great gas mileage take a look at what Hyundai has to offer. PS I have just installed the mirror tints on the car. The mirror tints are the hottest tints in the auto market at the moment. All I can say is WOW. I can't open my windows for 7 days but hey thats why I have an AC & sunroof. :-)

Strength:

Everything. I have not noticed any problems only good things. I like the purple illumination of the instrumental panel, the MPG and the estimation of miles left in the tank all within the digital odometer. Very comfortable for my wife 5'4" and myself 6'2", FUN and easy to drive. It has good pick up. LEATHER seats. Power windows/door locks, remote entry, cd player, A/C, side air bags, driving lights, WARRANTY, Cruise control, Lots of Room!!! Amazing trunk!

Weakness:

I have checked every inch of this car, and so far there has been only one downside I have encountered. No lights in the vanity mirrors. The latches that unlock the rear seats and allow them to lay down are not built very well. I have had one break already, though it's onl a small problem and can be easily fixed with a quick trip to the hardware store. The small little plastic clip that holds a metal rod which unlatches the seat has broken. With a cheap plastic clip or another method the latch will be fixed. Two very small problems for such a great car.

It is a GREAT car. I absolutely love it. My wife and I wanted to buy an inexpensive car that would be safe and have the basic options we needed for our kids (power windows/locks, A/C). We test drove the base Elantra GLS, the Toyota Echo, the Ford Focus, Kia Spectra, and others. None of them came anywhere near the price we could get with the Elantra GT. Most cars in this class don't even offer leather seats, and if they do the price is outrageous. The list of standard options is endless. What you would be charged between $2500-$6000 in options on other cars that the GT has it standard. If you are going to buy a car use CARBUYINGTIPS.COM. Using the advice from this site I was able to get an Automatic Elantra GT for $13,900.00 rather than the price they wanted to charge me $15,500.00. I was actually able to haggle a dealer down to $13,750.00 using a little lying (not anymore than they do to us, i.e. "rustproofing" etc). I basically used the online quote I received and then printed out a list of the local Hyundai dealers and wrote numbers in the sidelines. I then went in and pretended that that I just came from other dealers and they were willing to offer me lower and lower. Unfortunately the dealer I got that qoute from didn't have the new cool "Cobalt Blue" only black. Thus my wife and I went for the $13,900.00 quote and in the color we wanted. It's worth the time to test drive the new Elantra GT, it's definitely the best car I've seen out there for it's price. My brother has a 2000 BMW 3 series, and except for the few plastic parts and bigger engine, there's not much difference. If you were to invest the difference (about $20,000.00) you could have a very fast, very nice car that would easily out perform any BMW in both comfort and amenities.
