Strength:

Gas mileage Horse power/speed/manual options Love how the headlights turn off when you pull the key out of the ignition! Roominess inside the cabin

Weakness:

Poor paint job Constant A/C issues A/C filter doesn't do its job! Cheap-looking design. Looks good at first, but quickly declines after a year. Hope you have a garage for it!

I bought this vehicle brand new from the lot. I won't go into detail, but the bank really stuck it to me on the payment arrangements. If you do decide to purchase brand new, make sure you look through your contract very carefully. I am someone that has put 25,000 miles on my vehicle EACH YEAR! The only problems I have experienced with this vehicle is: bad paint job (handles and chrome were ruined within a year's time), a/c freezes solid because of a bad switch (need to replace it every 2 years), no filtration with a/c - you can smell EVERYTHING outside, and steering wheel squeaks when you turn it (something the dealership says is "fine"). Other than that - I've been happy with my car. I just hit 100,000 miles on my vehicle and replaced my brake pads - works like a charm. If you do the things that are required for this vehicle (oil changes,tune-ups,etc.) you really shouldn't have any major issues with it.

Comfortable ride.

Weakness:

Items broken, repaired or replaced: Seatbelts, door handles, electric window motor, brakes, timing belt, shocks, plastic center console, numerous motor items on several occasions.

I have had problems with this car from the very beginning. A majority of the car's components have been repaired or replaced. Initially, the warranty covered many of the repairs but after a couple of years, most of the problems were attributed to "normal wear" which means they were not covered under the warranty. I am preparing to pay another 2162.63 plus tax for more repairs to this vehicle. The roadside assistance, which I have had to use far too often, is an excellent benefit and service is promt. I have had numerous problems with the Hyundai dealerships also. When I complained directly to the maufacturer, their response was to offer me a Hyundai totebag or other promotional itme of my choosing. I would never recommedn this vehicle to any one. My sister was smart and traded her 2001 Sonata 2 years after she purchased it. Wish I had done the same.

warranty. MP3 player. quietness. ride quality. Air condition strong and efficient.

Weakness:

acceleration and gas mileage is average.

So far, this car runs well without any problem. I bought this car mainly because it has good warranty and heard Hyundai has improved build quality a lot. The weakness is it doesn't accelerate very fast, but for city use it is good enough.

Strength:

warranty - roadside assistance cheaper than other imports

Weakness:

poor gas mileage hard shifting from transmission misc problems - brakes seized, faulty starts

Purchased this car in April 2004, thought it would be a good value for the price with the warranty. Although the warranty is good, I have been having a lot of trouble getting work done or straight answers from the local dealership. The gas mileage is extremely poor in my opinion. According to the official figures on a full tank I should get approx 575 km and 875 km for city and Highway respectively. Using the car with mixed city/highway driving I can barely get 450 km on a full tank! My old 90 Grand prix V6 got better mileage than this! The transmission also seems to be very flaky, hard shifting to the "passing gear" as well as overall poor performance. I am getting very upset dealing with the local dealer as I feel like I am getting the brush-off from them. Other misc problems have occured throughout my first year which I don't think should happen with a new car. I have expressed my disatisfaction with the dealer but they seem to care less. I have told them I would return the car if I could and I will never buy Hyundai again and warm everyone I to stay away! I think they easily could have satisfied me with my complaints but the dealers poor attitude and the cars poor performance has permanently spoiled my on them. Resale value is also poor, as I have considered selling this car now and getting something else but the loss would be too great. Perhaps I got a lemon from a car that has been getting great reviews from many other people, but the dealer should have done everything they could for me if this was the chase. My recommendation is to NOT buy, stay away!

Rides smoothly and if comfortable. I'm tall and I still can fit well in the car - unlike many comparable models.

Weakness:

I've had repeated problems with the air bag sensors.

I've owned four Hyundai Sonatas- I have two right now - and have had good experiences with all of them. Each one has had it's own quirks, but the problems have been minor ones - generally easily corrected.

Pretty decent car. Overall, worth the price paid.

Weakness:

Watch out for certain dealerships! Some will still try to scam and overcharge you, and refuse to honor the manufacturer's warranty if you don't pay for extra services beforehand.

So far, this has been a pretty decent car. It is a little underpowered even with the V6, but is overall worth the price paid. My only problem is with the dealership. I took the car in for 12-month service and to check an air conditioning problem. The dealer only did the 7500 mile service (wrote it right on the invoice, yet still charged for the 12-month) and refused to check the A/C unless I first paid $75 for a filter replacement (which I later did myself for $20). The A/C still doesn't work correctly, so I will probably have to take it back to a different dealership to see if they will honor the warranty.

Bought used in 99 - 18000mi. 4 cyl GS It had 103,000 mi when a pickup ran a stop sign and the car was totalled - $3875 repair cost. Totaled VALUE $3100. We loved this car and upset at not having it repaired. No leaks. We did replace water pump, brakes(once), and alternator. Put 6 new tires on and would have replaced two more this Fall. It came with Alloy wheels perhaps that made a difference in tires and brakes. We replacing it with a used 2000 Mystique V6 64,000mi 6/2004. $6800 Very clean Hope we are as lucky with this as we were with the 97. We are an older couple (not ancient) and perhaps easier on this car than others.

Weakness:

resale value... takes a huge drop when u drive off the lot. If you buy it, buy it to keep it. How many new cars does one need anyway. I can think of many other places I'd lioke to spend my money.

Vehicle has over 6000 miles on it and so far is flawless. Loaded with leather, climate control, moon roof, AM/FM Casset-CD player. With more extras than I thought originally. Even the trunk and engine hood have assisted lift. I looked at Toyota's and gagged when I saw what they wanted for a compairable car. Ford ticked me off so much after I purchased my last new car from them that I gave in and bought foreign. Fords customer service was soooo poor that I didn't even give them a second chance. The dealership/saleperson at Doten Hyundai was very professional & polite. The options again blew me away for the price and the reliability of the car is killer. People that I give a ride to can't believe it is a Hyundai. I will admit, after a 1984 Porcshe 911 Carrera that I miss the handling but it is after all a 4 door midsized sedan. I suppose a 36K BMW would handle a bit better but then they charge extra for the 60/40 split fold down seats too. (what a joke) This vehicle is a killer bang for the buck. (looks good too) The shiftronic really taps into the engine's power also.

Strength:

comfortable good gas mileage

Weakness:

highway braking poor

I have owned my sonata for almost 3 years so now I figure I can give an honest review of it. I have 24,000 miles on it and have had no problems with it at all. It has a comfortable ride and roomy interior. I got it with most of the options, am/fm/cd,ac, cruise control, power windows, door locks, side view mirrors, and keyless entry. On a recent trip I drove it with the cruise control at 65 mph and got 34 mpg. I did replace the stereo with a better am/fm/cd player but kept the original 6 speakers it came with and am very happy with the sound. I have the 2.4 liter 4 cyl. engine and have no problem with acceleration. Don't be afraid to put your foot into it a bit and the 4 spd. transmission will move it fine. I have brought it up to 105 mph. many times with no trouble. The body has no dents, scratches or rust and it is not garaged. The only problem with the 2001 sonata is the brakes. Not the best. While driving on the highway give yourself room, over 65 mph. and you will have problems with emergency stopping. I hope hyundai will address this problem. If you are looking for a bmw or mercedes buy one. If you are looking for a good car at a good price the sonata is it. Would I buy another hyundai? yes.
