Strength:

Price Many many standard features you wouldn't find on other cars Appearance Super smooth ride Gas milage...get 700km from a full tank. Excellent service from the dealership

Weakness:

Transmission sometimes gets confused going up a hill...getting better as time goes on. Apparantly normal in a new car as the tranny computer adjusts to how you drive. Cruise control button is in an awkward spot. Quartz clock on the dash looks cheap.

Great car, great service, great warranty. It's obvious this company is trying to turn their past reputation around. Shopped at all the Asian manufacturers - Honda, Toyota, Nissan. Nothing came close to the value and warranty that we got with a Sonata. Amazingly smooth, comfortable ride. Very impressive stock stereo system. Looks great...we got it in black. Looks very similar to a Jag some people say. The dealership that sold it was nothing short of amazing. No pressure at all, very easy going. These guys are making a name for themselves

Good looking car

Weakness:

poorly manufactured

I bought my vehicle used less than two years ago. The crank sensor went bad and caused extensive damage to the transmission. Luckily I had purchased a two year warranty which cover most of the work. I still had to put out over $850.00 of my own. I know of two other owners who have transmission problems on same model. Others should know.

Well built. Dependable.

Weakness:

So far, none

A great car, absolutely no major complaints. I bought mine used with just over 21K on it. It's been performing like a champ, still has like 2 years oof warranty on it. The only issues I had were: 1. Check engine light came on this year - a spark plug was replaced. 2. Check airbag light came on - due to objects (umbrella, etc) being put under driver's seat. 3. Rear passenger power window got stuck, was fixed. 4. CD player broke, had to be replaced.(this may be my fault) That's pretty much it. I've taken the car on cross country trips, etc, it does a good job, never got stranded, never broke down. I've also noticed the car has a decent trade-in value...who would have thought.

Strength:

Inside & out appearance is nice. The ride is smooth and quiet. Trunk is large.

Weakness:

I have never had problems of this magnitude or frequency in any car I have owned. I've owned 3 Pontiacs, a Dodge, a Ford, a Toyota, and 2 Chevys. I won't buy another Hyundai.

Purchased 3/01-dealer demo w/3,000 mi. 3 mo. later, car wouldn't start. I was stranded in a drug-store parking lot in 90 degree weather, with my 88 yr old father in the car. That was the first of 6 different strandings. The car was in the dealership weeks at a time. I was in a sub-compact rental, more than I was in my own vehicle, that summer. Dealership finally removed the remote-keyless entry system. That solved the electrical problem. Still don't have the keyless entry re-installed. The car now has 69,900 miles. The cruise control is flawed---it will disengage when the road is a little rough. The brakes are shot (which I can understand), and the rear-end is also in need of service. These 2 repairs will run approx. $500. Besides this, the service technician mentioned that since the car has more than 60,000 mi, I should replace some type of drive belt, which, if done now, before it breaks, will only cost $400.00. After it breaks, it will cost $1,000 to repair. After I fix the brakes & rear end (the parts had to be ordered) I am trading this lemon.

elegant all around, inside and out.

Weakness:

could use 30 hp more, but other reviewers are correct in that it has plenty of punch above 3000 rpms.

Update to previous review. I use car on road and not in city; but if you dont use jackrabbit starts you get 26 mpg; pure hi way driving at 70 mph I get 29 mpg. Car has shift tronic and abs. These figures are for 15 months and 12,000 miles. Still has leather smell. Very consistent. Only recall is for spare tire.

Strength:

Smooth ride, elegant style, good stereo system

Weakness:

None

Although I purchased the car only two days ago, I experienced immediately a comfort level that belies the adage that high cost delivers to you comfort and a smooth riding car. My visit to Bob Dance, a local Hyundai dealer in Orlando proved to be unexpectedly pleasant. The salesman, Mr. Keith Harris was forthright and respectful. Riding the vehicle for the last two days has been a satisfying and joyful highlight for my wife and myself. The stereo system sounds super! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Weakness:

not as powerful as i thought it would be

I test drove a 2003 GLS V6 sonata today. To my suprise i found that the 2003 Se Ford focus seem to have more power. During the test drive we whent up a hill and the Sonata seemed to be going at a moderate speed but working its butt off. AFter leaving the dealership, i decided to drive my 4 cylinder focus up the same hill which when up at ease.

Strength:

Headlights, overall exterior styling.

Weakness:

Heated seats should be an option. The ignition should be on the steering wheel. A digital compass should be on the LX trim -- when you're getting so many amenities in LX than why not the digital compass? Blue instrument cluster lights -- just like the Elantra GT. Well, not to say that blue lights are must but it's just more trendy.

I have owned a Silver 2003 Sonata LX (with ABS/Trac, Moonroof) for about 3 months with not a single problem. So far the car is very dependable and with the 5-years/60K bumper-to-bumper warranty, I'm not much worried either. The looks of Sonata with the extraordinary warranty were the key factors for me to buy this car. The exterior styling of Sonata is marvelous. The front-end is absolutely gorgeous. Sonata's styling is the hybrid of Mercedes C-class and Jaguar. The price for this car is several thousand less than its competitors, and I personally think that Sonata is the most appealing car in mid-size car category. I'm getting around 20-22 mpg in mix driving condition, which I think is very reasonable.

So far the car is great. We have had it a little less than a month and the car is a dream to drive. It is the smoothest car I have ever been in and 9/10 times I can not feel the transmission shift. The acceleration in normal automatic is a little weak, but the shifttronic transmission covers that aspect really well. Starting at 3000 rpm the car really picks up some nice power curves and you really feel the full horsepower. Great Car
