GETS GOOD MILLAGE (MINE HAS 150,000),LOOKS, FOR A 4 CL. IT HAS ALL THE POWER YOU NEED, VERY DEPENDABLE.
Weakness:
I HAVENT FOUND ANY WEAKNESS YET. AND MY CAR IS 6 YEARS OLD AND IT STILL RUNS LIKE A NEW ONE. AND I LOVE IT LIKE I DID WHEN I FIRST GOT IT. EVEN THOUGH MY HYUNDAI IS A 1997 I LOVE IT. WE HAVE HAD THIS HYUNDAI FOR OVER 2 YEARS AND IT IS STILL LIKE A NEW ONE TO ME. IT HAD BEEN WRECKED ONCE BEFORE IN THE FRONT END BUT WE DIDNT OWN IT THEN, WELL WHOEVER WRECKED THIS CAR MESSED UP THE ALTENATOR BRACKET AND WE HAVE ONLY PUT ONE NEW ALTENATOR ON IT. WE HAVE TO CHANGE THE ALTENATOR BELT BOUT ONCE EVERY MONTH JUST TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE. OTHER THAN THAT,THATS ALL THE TROUBLE WE HAVE HAD OUT OF IT. RIGHT NOW IT HAS OVER 150,000 MILES ON IT AND THATS HARD MILES TOO. MY HYUNDAI HAS BEEN TO FLORIDA 3 TIMES AND GEORGIA A NUMEROUS TIMES, NASHVILLE SO MANY TIMES I CANNOT COUNT THAT HIGH, KENTUCKY NUMEROUS TIMES. SO U WANT A GOOD DEPENDABLE CAR THESE R VERY DEPENDABLE IN MY BOOK. Similar Products Used: MERCURY SABLE |

Cheap- You get what you pay for. It is a nice looking car I will at least say that much
Weakness:
Bad ride, poor transmission and gas mileage. I only test drove the Sonata 2-3 miles. Big mistake. I find that the car rides like a truck. You feel ever bump. Even on a smooth road the car has continual movement. The transmission is horrible. I have had it back two times and they tell me it is normal. Every time you take your foot off the gas the car shift downward as if I released a parachute on the back. It takes at least 2 miles to start shifting properly. My last three tanks of gas, with mostly highway driving, were 19.5, 20.5 and 17.5. Back to the Buick I plan sell the Sonata. Similar Products Used: Buick Century |

Sonata
Strength:
Looks, Features (V6, interior and exterior finishes), ride and comfort, and value for the money. The warranty is also a powerful assurance and should sell a ton of these cars
Weakness:
At this point only the Hyundai name - remember when Japanese cars were trashed for quality and size? I have owned the 2002 Sonata for two weeks now. I was drawn to the Sonata by it''s looks and assured by the warranty Hyundai is using to establish it''s credentials in the USA. Overall, at this early stage, I am very impressed with the vehicle. The V6 with Shiftronic transmission is smooth, the vehicle is quiet (even with sunroof) and the interior is both comfortable (I am 6''2") and functional. The Sonata is not a sports car (I have a Ford Mustang for that) but as a 4 door family sedan it fares well against the Malibu, Taurus and other foreign cars of similar size. Value for the price it beats them. If there is a stigma with driving a Hyundai - I''ll happily learn to live with it. Room (it''s huge in there, you could sit five easy) It''s kinda stylish as it look like a cross between an Accord and a Jetta. It has a big TRUNK!
Weakness:
The paint Jobs SUCCCCKS! Did I mention that the paint jobs suuuuucks! Drive around, if you see a 91-93 Sonata with a good paint job, It''s been done over. Ok, Let me gather my thoughts... I brought a 93 Sonata my freshman year in college back in 1996. Having a background on inequity, I was forced to slave many jobs in undergrad just to pay the note. It was a nice charcoal grey that began to fade after 1 year. 2 years later the engine blew. I was fortunate to find a Sonata of the same year with power options that had been in a accident. I brought the car for 700 dollars, and used the hood, fender, and radiator from the busted one and had them painted white. The second Sonata gave me no problems at all. It was a total loss, however when I struck a deer leaving the state of NC. I swear the 2nd one was a super car. I was 8 times tougher than the one I brought from that placebo dealership. Strength:
Great looks (our black Sonata has been mistaken for a Lexus twice already!), Incredibly smooth power delivery from a 4-cylinder, plenty of interior and trunk space, Wonderful headlights, UNBELIEVABLE warranty
Weakness:
Hyundai reputation (but with a warranty like this, who cares!), Cruise control on/off switch in an odd place, too much lower back support in driver''s seat, dome light goes off immediately after doors are closed, nothing major that would change my initial opinion of the car We shopped for 6 months and settled on the 2001 Sonata and loved the look of the 2002 even better when it came out. The car is an unbeatable value compared to other imports in its class. It''s loaded with standard features that are optional on others. The 4-cylinder is smooth and adequately powerful, especially with the Shiftronic manual/automatic. Hyundai has done a first-rate job designing this car, as evidenced by the many small niceties such as the dim-to-off dome light and the power outlet and inside release latch in the trunk. For an extra $4.00 per month, ours is warrantied for 10 years/100,000 miles! Similar Products Used: 1996 Ford Contour GL |

Sonata GL V6
Strength:
Overall level of fit and finish is excellent. If people want to get an even better perspective on the value of this vehicle, look at it in terms of throwing an extra $2000 in as you are about to buy a Honda Civic! Clearly Hyundai has a winner here - the V6''s are getting quite difficult to find, as most of the ones that come into the dealers are already pre-sold.
Weakness:
Concerned about the Hyundai name, as I too remember the Pony/Stellar days. Best way to get around it is to lease the vehicle instead of buying it. That way, the resale value isn''t your problem. Would like the vehicle to have remote keyless entry, but this can be put in at Canadian Tire for around $450, the same as the dealer wants, but the C/T version also includes a remote starter. Like many others, I looked at other cars before committing to the Hyundai. I was set to buy a 4-cyl. Camry, but I test drove a 4-cyl. Sonata and found it every bit as nice for $4000 less! I ordered the V6 in Celadon Green (good luck trying to find this color now!), and had the vehicle within 3 weeks. Very impressed with the lack of road noise at all speeds. Styling is very attractive. Good acceleration of out of the V6 at highway speeds, a little bit sluggish off the line. Similar Products Used: Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, Acura 3.2TL, Volkswagen Jetta, |

Unfortunately the name "Hyundai" still carries a bad rep with many people. This is overcome quickly with a quick test ride around the block though! Priced numerous Japanese models before "stumbling" across the Sonata at the local Hyundai dealer. Literally fell for the car at first site. I couldn''t believe the good looks, and the price was unbelieveable! Waited about 6 weeks for a GLS in silver to come in, and bought it the next day. I am continually amazed at the value this car offers. I keep finding little "niceties" such as the dome light that slowly dims instead of just shutting off, the lighted keyholes, the scissor type trunk hinges, the Michelin tires! etc etc that are just icing on the cake. No power to speak of. Bad baking system . lots a little prroblems . This is a great looking car. But, it needs some work in the power department. I loved this car at first. But after a few days. I was ready to return it.I realy loved the car. I had before a 99 Alero before. This car lacks alot when it comes to options that others cars come with. the cruise is in the wrong place. The bakes are not the same as my other car they don"t stop fast. And I belive that customer service is the worste. I had this car at the shop at 3 times since we brought in October. We were told that the car was fine until we made a video of it acting up and they they fixed it.The computer was bad in it. Now we are taking it back because air bag Light stays on.The low end shift could be smoother. Similar Products Used: 99 Alero , 2001 Nissan |

Good power, gas mileage and handling for a lightweight 4 cylinder car. Pleasant appearance. 100K warranty; If you buy one of these, use a dealer nearby to save mileage for repairs and plan on selling before the warranty expires.
Weakness:
Brakes- Lock up any time without warning! Radiator- replaced at less than 5000 miles. AC- replaced compressor at less than 2000 miles. Lots of minor rattles. Front seat like a park bench- Take a cushion if you''re traveling more 20 miles. Worst and most dangerous car I ever owned. 27 trips to the dealer for repairs in only 6 months. Traded in for a new Aztec last Saturday and glad to be out of it. Similar Products Used: Buick Century, Chevy Monte Carlo, & Chrysler T & C (traded this for the Sonata- Big mistake!) |

had the car over a month it has been flawless. Have had my 2000 for 2years and it''s been great, not flawless but hey the warranty made up for that. The company takes care of any problems with courtesy.
Weakness:
missunderstood! What other company tries as hard as Hyundai? My 1990 sonata lasted 160k miles and could have been alot more, it was time to let it go. So far the 2002 has been great can''t think of a thing I would change, Maybe change the grill a little, make it look more like the jag and put a Leopard on the hood. This is my third Sonata 1990, 2000, and now a 2002. Still have the 2000. The 2000 was twice the car of the 1990, and now the 2002 is a substantial jump from the 2000. The 2002 has a larger trunk, an improved sound system (blows the Bose system out the door) the old woood trim look is very improved, old one was funtional new one is classy looking. 2002 has new remote entry system. The headlights are improved, love them they look like illuminated crystal balls. Tails lights are also on the sexy side just like the Jag xj, Looks like Hyundai got a peek of the Jag before they designed the Sonata, hats of to them for that. The wheels are now 16 in aluminum alloy. Tires are Micheline. Now has a trunk exit lever for safety. The engine has another 10hp over the 2000 model and the torque of the new model is very smooth, the acceleration is very smooth and powerfull, I notice that at freeway speeds it will take off and pass. Paint job and metal fit is a good as any other care I''ve seen out there. The car hugs the curves. What the heck else could you ask for? If anyone can find a car like this with leather, moonroof, warranty, 16inch wheels and and a stereo system that sounds as good as this one does for only $18,600 out the door please email me because I just don''t think such a car exists out there, I looked.
