Mazda 626 (1979 - 2002) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Mazda 626 is a mid-size model that carries the authority of being fully imported from Japan. Built to a high standard, it is frequently reported by its owners to be trouble free for years on end.

The Mazda 626 is offered as a four-door sedan with 2 engine options; a 2.0-liter, 125-hp 4-cylinder or a 2.5-liter, 170-hp V-6. Also choose between a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. ABS is standard.

The 626 replaced the 616/618 and RX-2 in 1979 and was sold through 2002, when the new Mazda6 took over as Mazda's large family car.

Strength:

Nice size vehicle!

Weakness:

Way to many things go wrong with the transmission.

I was surprised at the fact that so many people had problems with the tranmissions on the 95 mazda 626, I thought I was the only one. I have had my car in the shop more than I have driven it. I had my transmission rebuilt and worked on several times. My od light goes on every once in a while and the transmission does not seem to shift properly. I work two jobs, attend college, and have a daughter that needs to be taken to school and this car has not been relyable at all. The 95 mazda 626 should be recalled for tranmissions. I would never tell anyone to consider buying the 95 mazda 626!!!!!!!

It's pretty.

This will be my second transmission in 20 months. The first one went out when the car was only two years olds. The radiator had a hole in it and had to be replaced. There is a hole in the pipe that runs the length of the car and needs to be replaced to the tune of $600. There are a multitude of smaller problems festering and waiting to become the next big problem. I can not afford to keep the mazda repair shop in good finiacial standings. I plan to dump this loser car. I know 12 people who bought Mazda because of it's stylish good looks and economy. Now 11 of those people have had to replace their transmission. This car sucks. People...please learn from others. Don't buy Mazda.

THIS CAR SUCKS... I am hoping there will be a class action suit against Mazda for producing such crap.

no top end, the car shuts off at 165km

My mazda 626 has costed me lots of money ever since I purchased it in december 2000. I had to put in a new 5 speed transmission, not long after that the head gasket went. I was just told that the floor is rusting bad, and that i should sale it soon but i like the mazda it is fast and cheap on in insurance.

TRANSMISSION, everything mechanical, even power window/locks. Paint is third class.

Never think of buying a 626, specially 94 model. I'm on the third transmission now, and it leaks. Went to the dealer everytime for transmission problems.

Strength:

5 speed, auto adjust suspension, turbo, factory 15 inch tires, and way to many others to mention.

Weakness:

cost of the parts

I bought this particular vehicle b/c it was very cheap and it was turbo it was leaking oil like a cracked open oil tanker. After extensive motor work like racing pistons, bearings, rings,Flowmaster exhaust and a few turbo mods it is producing a respectable 250 hp at the wheels. The cars 0-60 mph time is right under 6 seconds, i have not reached top end yet b/c at about 115 mph my wipers hover above my windshield, but i can tell you it pulls just as hard at 115 as it does off the line.

Strength:

Good value for money. Good mileage.

Weakness:

Transmission is rough

This car is good value for the money you pay. I have put on 65000kms in the past 2 years and have had no problems. Just regular service issues. The 4cyl is under powered but the gas mileage is excellent. The transmission is a little rough but I have had no other complaints with this vehicle.

Good Looking, roomy, very good stock stereo, Fuel economy is fair for the size of the car.

Weakness:

Unreliable, I wonder if I will be able to sell this car to someone else???????

I purchased this car while it was two years old and only had 9,000 miles on it. I thought I was getting a great deal. It seems that I am always repairing this automobile. I have replaced the front brakes on three different occasions. I've had fuel injection problems. Oil leaks, the car pops out of alignment more times than I can remember, and now after reading about all of the transmission problems, I am very quickly thinking about purchasing a new car. Don't buy this car, unless you want to buy mine. "It is a beautiful, gold 626 with low miles.........."

My previous automobile was a Nissan Sentra. Although, the car had no power, very plain looking, I was able to put 150K on the odometer before the transmission went out. I thought I was upgrading by purchasing a 626. Just like my high school football team, we had great looking uniforms, but that is about it.

5 speed trans. 198,000 and still going strong. Layout of interior, everything within hands reach. Paint Job. After being out in the elements the likes of North Dakota, Arkansas, & Hampton, Va it still looks brillent after a good wash. Trunk space and 60/40 fold down seats.

Weakness:

Oil leak, at 197,000 what can I expect. Not enough horses. Drivers window regulator needs replacing. Stereo & speakers lack power but I replaced them both, now it's great.

Bought it brand new in March 1990 and it still has appeal after 197,000 miles. Some minor problems but I still love this car. A grand jewel. I'd buy another 626!

Strength:

It has a very spacey backseat, good sound on the factory speakers, never had problems, GREAT gas mileage (I get about 36), has good pick-up for only being a v-4, doesn't shake after going a certain speed. Great Car

Weakness:

trunk on keyless entry is too sensitive, alarm doesn't sound until one minute after the car has been broken into.

Great Car, and nice looking. I have had it for over a year, and have not once had a problem with this car. It rides very smoothly, and handles like a $30,000 car.
