Mazda 626 (1979 - 2002) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Mazda 626 is a mid-size model that carries the authority of being fully imported from Japan. Built to a high standard, it is frequently reported by its owners to be trouble free for years on end.

The Mazda 626 is offered as a four-door sedan with 2 engine options; a 2.0-liter, 125-hp 4-cylinder or a 2.5-liter, 170-hp V-6. Also choose between a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. ABS is standard.

The 626 replaced the 616/618 and RX-2 in 1979 and was sold through 2002, when the new Mazda6 took over as Mazda's large family car.

Strength:

My 626 has a 2.0 4 cly engine. Now it might be much, but it can move for a 4 cly. the car is great for a family of 4, but it seems slow when you have alot of people in it.

Weakness:

not enough features and a bad hybrid transmission between mazda and ford.

I would first like to say that I loved my 626, but now it a whole nother story. When I first bought my 626, it had a tranmission problem. The problem was that it could not go in reverse. The original price of the car was 895 dollars. No, I'm not dumb for buying this car knowing it had this problem, but my 1992 pontiac sunbird se had given out on me and I had a job and I was tired of driving my moms van with 131000 miles on it. My brother is an awesome transmission specialist and i knew that he would of fixed for nothing so the car at first was a steal for me. after about 3 months, my 626 started acting up, so i told my brother that it was time to go to work. Well, after about a month, my car was fixed. I had reverse and my gears were shifting great. after iv been driving my car for about 4 days, my radiator hose busted at wal-mart and i thought that someone shot me with the loud bang that it made. I got the hose fixed hte next mourning. about 2 days later, the car started idling really high when it shifted into gears and the car started maxing out at 40 mph. It hapened that water got into my transmission so that fuc**d up my whole day just a day before prom. Well, about 3 weeks later my bro fixed the car again. It was fine for about 3 days and then it started droping out of overdrive when it got a little heated. Now to this day, im about to trade that stupid a## car in. I still love it but now i want my pontiac grand gt. Now to this day my 626 is kinda slipping before it goes into 1 gear and its still dropping out of overdrive and it kinda slipping in other gears.

Strength:

Quiet engine, lots of space, large trunk, smooth ride

Weakness:

Check engine light, using oil

Was a wonderful car for the first 10 months or so. Then the check engine light starting coming on, and the car starting using oil. Goes thru a quart a week or so. Has fairly high miles, but ran beautifully until everything starting wearing out on it. Little disappointed at how much work has to be put into it.

Very expensive lesson learned. Do your homework before car shopping.

Weakness:

TRANSMISSION TRANSMISSION TRANSMISSION TRANSMISSION TRANSMISSION TRANSMISSION TRANSMISSION TRANSMISSION TRANSMISSION

Had to replace the brakes so many times I've lost count. Transmission failed @ 60,000 because the Mazda 626 isn't designed to sufficiently cool the Ford transmission that's inside of this LEMON! After having the transmission replaced less than 2 months ago it is kicking into O/O again : - ) Only now I've pressed the issue am I being told it needs a transmission cooler installed or it will just burn out again. Guess who's paying for it?

Transmission repairs

TRANSMISSION! This car has been nothing but a major head ache. I purchased my 626 almost a year ago. It's been in the shop 8 months total since I've owned it. The transmission went out a month after I purchased it. I got a 2 yr/24,000 mile warranty on the transmission. At this point, I don't even want to continue to repair the transmission. I'd love to get rid of it, but I wouldn't wish this car on anyone. I'm considering selling to the Junk Yard for $145.00. Sad isn't it?

Weakness:

well all 86 626's run on ford trannys, enough said.

in the past many months ive had this awsome car, ive only spent 300 tops on repairs, its been in two minor fender benders (previous owner) and those cause the problems. the sway bar gave and the rear bearings were burnt.
