Mazda Millenia (1995 - 2003) Midsize | Compact

Mazda Millenia (1995 - 2003) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Mazda Millenia was launched in North America in 1995 and replaced the 929 as Mazda's flagship sedan offering. The Millenia is offered as a 4 door sedan with a 2.5-liter/170-hp DOHC V-6 or a supercharged 2.3-liter/210-hp DOHC V-6. It comes standard with a 4-speed automatic and ABS.

Having been developed for a separate audience from typical Mazda customers, the Millenia boasted a myriad of finer details. It was engineered to far greater levels of perceived quality than existing Mazda cars, such as interior plastic, panel gap and thicker paint coating.

the looks of the car

Weakness:

everything else

This car is horrible. Don't be tricked by this car once you first get it you will fall in love with it. you will think damn this car is nice an smooth and looks spectacular and prolly laugh at the thought of you picking up all the girls while your friends sit in there bummy looking cars. Nope they will have the last laugh. you can buy this car brand new and still have to replace many things. The check engine light is always on and for no reason at all. The car smokes alot from the muffler because your valve seals would bust and to fix it will cost you more than an arm or leg because it isnt so simple. You have to make sure that it's really really REALLY kept up to date because you never know what may happen to you. One day the car is just turning itself off the other day its hard to turn it back on another the timing belt and timing go wrong and another the car doesn't want to shift from park to drive! Don't get me wrong the car has a beautiful design and nice speakers, seats you know the works. But it seems that the car was made of plastic or something because just about everything on the inside can break off. You burn through oil everyday and now with gas prices you have to put in about as much for a truck but with half the power! Its almost impossible to find cheap car parts. I drove the car for bout 2-3 months and had to replace the timing belt, spark plugs, distrubitor, and transmission. The car takes a year and 2 months just to heat up so if you plan on going sumwhere send your little niece or nephew out there to start the car so it can be nice and ready for you for when you leave. This car dissapointed me so much you dont understand. I had a 1994 Honda civic with 280,000 miles and it was still running great the only thing was that the head gaskets cost alot to change and water pump and all that but now i realized that the money i spent on the mazda could have gone to my honda.

Beatiful body, superb ride and handling and nice interior.Gas mileage about 25MPG average.

Weakness:

Resale value,transmission,ENGINE LIGHT,expensive service.

I purchased it brand new.Beatiful car.Ride handling and steering superb.Interior design very impressive. The car was flying on a highways until I changed transmission fluid (there was no reason to do that, just dealer's advise).Since then it is different car.It does not ride smoothly anymore.Transmission shifts sometimes unexpectedly.Engine check light problem exists almost from the beginning. It cost me lots of money.Every time they gave me a different reason. Finally I found out how to fix it.Just pull out the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT fuse and push it back after a while and the problem is gone. But unfortunately not forever. It will come back in the future. It works in my Millenia.I also had to change fuel tank because the low fuel level light did not work properly.Beside these problems I did not have any major problems.I love this car but I am scared that the transmission might break down anytime it has 70k on. b

I bought my Millenia new, and In fewer than 5 years and 50,000 miles, I've been plagued with more than $4,000 in repairs all stemming from engine light issues including gas tank replacement. Most recently, the catalytic converter needed to be replaced, thankfully, this one was under warranty.
I am meticulous in car maintanence and have had every recommended oil change and tune-up, so this car has been nothing but a money pit. Most frustrating of all is that I never get an answer as to why these problems occur ... just a shrug and a general 'wear and tear' response. Give me a break! I will never buy a Mazda again.

Looks nice on the outside and the leather seats are nice.

Weakness:

Pretty much everything. :(

A couple of night ago my Millenia went up in flames. After the inital shock of "uh oh, how am I going to get around now", I couldn't help but feel so incredibly relieved. I have had nothing but problems since I first bought the car in Decemeber 2005. It only had 96,000 miles when I bought it. The check engine light and ABS light went on a few days after I bought it. A couple of weeks later I had to replace the front right axle (or whatever it's called that makes it sound like your wheel is going to explode when you turn). That was about $150 and my boyfriend installed it, so that's only the part. I have to be careful how I get in and out of the car because the alarm is psychotic and has a mind of it's own. The door panels started falling off and I had to super flue them on along with the rearview mirror which flew off and almost hit me in the face. :) Skip ahead about 8 months. One night it just decided to die and wouldn't restart. The mechanic said I needed a new distributor, new oxygen sensors and 2 of my 3 motor mounts were bad, oh and my oil and transmission were leaking. After 3 distributors, new spark plugs and wires, resealing the oil leak, and about $1000 I could drive it. I started noticing the transmission wasn't shifting so smoothly in the next couple of months after that. Then it died again, basically, it woudln't shift. I had to get a new transmission. There goes another $1000. Not even a week after I got my transmission put in, one night the car just died again. I noticed it started smoking. I got out of the car and called for a ride. Then it really started smoking! I had to call 911. Just before the firefighters for there it burst into flames. I should mention that the thermostat read a normal temp reading before it caught on fire. I wish I could attach a picture of the piece of crap and what it looks like now. I tell everyone I know to never ever buy one. I understand that I bought it from a little used car dealership and it wasn't in immaculant condition when I bought it, but at the same time I should never have had so many problems with a car with so little mileage. On top of that the parts and labor are so ungodly expensive. Also other little things, my cupholders broke, my sunroof lever thing broke, the wood-like piece that goes across the dash broke off before I got the car, the wood-like peiece by the shifter was broken, the mudflaps were falling off, the mazda symbol on the front fell off, it took FOREVER to heat up, it didn't like to start when it was cold, I could go on and on forever.......

good styling, quality & fairly economical

Weakness:

timing belt instead of chain, back seat doesn't fold down, cheap cup holders

I've been driving my millenia 10 years now and I still love it. I bought it used back in 96 with 7,000 miles on it and do most of the routine maintenance on it myself. it's got 140,000 miles on it now and drives like new. The only thing I don't like about it is the rear seats don't fold down so my surfboard and skis must ride on a roof rack. The black paint is starting to show UV damage & I hate changing the timing belts but this is a great looking great riding car.

no nav, sound system not the best. Expensive parts when dealing with the mazda dealership.

Love this car. Have the V6 with supercharger. Great gas mileage, especially on highway. Great pickup, handling and quiet. I drive this car everywhere. It is not pampered and have put almost 100,000 miles on it (Bought with only 500 miles). Have only changed the oxygen sensor for the first time last week. No other problems. Always get compliments and people wondering what king of car it is. Had a 97 millenia before this. Would highly recommend.

Repairs and maintenance

I enjoy my Millenia.Just a few down falls Ive seen with it. When I first got the car in November 04 the check engine light kept coming on , but I was assured and reassured by the Nissan dealer with trained techs that nothing was wrong with the engine. In March of 06 the trunk switch on the driver door just STOPPED working but after several months it reset itself and started working again. And the earlier part of 06 the factory installed alarm just stopped working as well but then reset itself and started working again. Both of the latter of the two problems occured after we had very heavy rain for several days. Overall I enjoy driving "Missee" thats her name. She is a comfortable upgrade for me I bought this car after driving a 95 Nissan Altima SE.Oh i read the ownwers manual and it mentioned that @ 60,000 miles Im supposed to have the timing belt and other things done GEEE Wizzz very costly.

Strength:

Its a nice interior compared to domestic cars, but that doesn't overpower the weaknesses.

Weakness:

EXPENSIVE PARTS!!!!
poor fuel economy
higher labor cost b/c it takes longer to work on.

Its an okay car when it works. If i could go back in time i honestly wouldn't buy it. There isnt much customization or anything to do to increase power other than changing the air filter and exhaust. My mileage around town is about 16MPG. I don't go long distances on highways too often so i wouldn't know the highway mileage it gets. Parts for this car are 3 to 4 times more expensive than domestic cars. The alternator is $360 and thats not including labor b/c most of the engine work requires the engine to be raised in order to do work. Brake parts for this car are hard to come by and are 2 to 4 times as expensive as conventional cars. If you have money to burn, this is your car. What i need is a nice reliable jeep and no more imports for me. FWD isnt good at all.
