Strength:

Exterior design, high quality interior. Paint color is beautiful. Premier wood package, power moonroof. 3.5L V6, SYNC and Bluetooth, Sirius radio, nav system. Exterior fit and finish, 18" alloy rims. Smooth, quiet ride, great handling. Plenty of interior space. Heated/cooled seats, wood trim.

Weakness:

Has Same Dash Design as the Ford Taurus.

My 2008 Mercury Sable is fantastic. I could not be happier with it. It handles great. The ride quality is superb, quiet and smooth. I have plenty of head and legroom as well as a great view of the road. The interior quality is superb. The fit and finish of the exterior is very nice. It's very tight. I love the exterior design. The front design is very sleek and I like the clear tailamp covers. The performance of the 3.5L V6 is great. It moves this heavy sedan with no problems and the 6-speed shifts smoothly. And I love the beautiful exterior color. Dark Ink Blue looks awesome and the black leather with white stitching is first class. I am very happy with my new Sable. I suggest you go check one out. It's really good to see that Mercury has finally got a lineup that will get young buyers in to the showrooms myself in included. 10 Years ago I never would have thought i would own a Mercury at 27 Years old.

Strength:

The motor runs great. Especialy for a domesticly made car (i'm kinda partail to hondas and toyotas). I never expected it to run this well for so long. We just do the regular mainteness on it and it runs great.

Weakness:

There is this camshaft position senors that goes out like once a year. The only good thing is that it is cheap (like 20 bucks)

I've had this car for almost 3 years now and it runs great. The only problem I've had is a stupid sensor that goes out like once a year. We have replaced it twice now. It only cost like 20 dollars so it is not that bad. Besides that it runs like a champ. We bought it with just over 80,000 mile on it (some little old lady owned it) and now it has about 115,000 miles. When we bought this car we were in a hurry because the motor in my other car had blown and I need a car now. We have two kids with another on the way and you can fit 3 car seats in the back seat pretty easily. The trunk is absolutly enourmous. We went camping for a weekend and fit two coolers and all of the camping gear in there. I couldn't belive it.

Strength:

- Smooth Ride - Impressive Speakers - Comfy Interior Design - Interior Cleans Up Well - Monster Trunk - Takes Collision Damage Like A Champ

Weakness:

- Rusting - Engine Getting LOUD - Interior Falling Apart - Quirky Cup Holders - Power Locks and Windows Breaking - Windshield Wipers Work "When They Want"

I'm a prouder owner of my first car, a 1991 Mercury Sable GS. I'm the third owner and it stores about 152,000 miles and is still truckin' along. - Trunk space is very nice, it can just about fit two dead bodies (just kidding)! - Due to its age, some strange things have happened to the power locks... they just stopped working on one side. The power windows are breaking also. - Cup holders barely hold aluminum pop cans... and when they get dirty, they are pretty gross. - Interior is well designed but is rather cheap and full of plastic. - Engine has held up strong and mileage is very decent. - After 13 years of moderate care, two rust spots have appeared. - Girlfriend says she can hear the car from inside her house with the stereo on. Don't think that's a strength. - Has been in a few minor accidents. Previously rear-ended by a Dodge Neon - some paint on the Sable's bumper, Neon's front was totalled. - Ride is incredibly smooth for its age. Especially on the highway. - Stereo is very impressive to my fellow teenagers even with the factory speakers (the stereo was replaced). - Has about 152,000 miles on it with third owner (yours truly) and is still kicking after new brakes and wheel repair. - First owner of the vehicle had been a smoker. Car interior cleaned up very nice and smell diminished.

Strength:

A good solid car. Easy to drive & very comfortable. Very smooth on the highway when taking trips on.

Weakness:

Costs a little more to fill it up at the gas station, but then I heard one lady told me her mini van costs $34.00 to fill hers up. So I guess I can't complain on $20.00 to fill mine up.

I'm very happy with this car. I've driven used cars all my life & they were nothing but junk. Most of them rattled or buzzed, then eventually broke down on me. But this car however does not do any of those things & I've had it now for about 3 years. The only thing I ever had to get on it were new brakes. That's all! I change the oil in it every 3,000 miles & it's good to go. About a week ago someone hit me from behind. His SUV's front bumper was completely damaged, where my back bumper was barely touched. Just a little paint came off & my tail light had a little crack in it. Anyway, not only did the mans insurance company pay for the whole thing, but they paid for a 2001 Saturn from Enterprise for me to use for 2 days while my car was being worked on. I hated that car! Here it was newer than mine but it was always buzzing & I could hear it rattle constantly. I felt like a midget sitting in it, cuz I sat so low. It had no tilt wheel, no power windows or locks. My 96 Sable has all of those. What a relief it was to get my "baby" back! In the next few years I will trade it in & get myself the same kind of car but maybe a 98 instead. And I will go back to the same man who sold me this car. Sometimes when you go to a big dealership they don't know everything about the car, like if it has been in any major accidents. The more major accidents a cars been in they won't really run very well. And you have to keep taking it to the body shop all the time. This man I know will not sell any junk! I believe it cuz he sold me a really great car! I'm very pleased!!!!

Strength:

Comfortable, lots of little extras in the interior, such as electric seats, side window heaters, cup holders, adjustable steering, easy reach of controls. Has sufficient speed on the high way, handles well, gets good gas mileage

Weakness:

Continuing issues with repairs that have proven costly. The engine design causes all repairs to be expensive as the labor involved to repair it. Example, freeze plugs are leaking, at a cost of upwards to 1000.00 to repair as they have to take the engine and transmission off to get to them.

This car has been one problem after the other, the coolant system has had numerous issues, during the warrenty period and continuing on to present. I have had to have transmission work done (recall) the coolant system overhauled, replace the heater core blower motor, radiator cap, and now my freeze plugs are leaking. Every single repair has been that much more complicated by the design of the engine to fit into the contoured body.

Model Reviewed: Mercury Sable Wagon

Strength:

Solid body. Solid engine. Rides great. Plenty of get-up-and-go with the V6 engine (I raced a brand-hew Lexus into Atlanta with the Merc and gave the Jap a solid race the whole way!)

Weakness:

The central "red lens" over the wagon door is a fake. It only hosts the fluid jet and a reflector that doesn't reflect.

What an incredible machine! The original owner kept up the maintenance (oil/filter every 3K miles, trans fluid/filter every 50K miles) He replaced the radiator once, but says vehicle (144,000 miles) is otherwise original. My mechanic and I agreed with this once we got the Merc onto a rack and looked it over. I literally bought the wagon sight-unseen over the telephone after the guy told me the Merc was one of five cars he and his wife now had after graduating all of their children from college in one year. He used my purchase money to fix up the Toyota and told me later he wished he had sold me that car and kept the Merc. The Merc is showroom condition -- absolutely mint, not even a single door-dink. Even the leather is in great condition. All I really did was give it a personal detailing (I am VERY exacting!) which went even to wiping the dust from under the rubber weatherstrips around the doors. There is NOTHING wrong with this car -- NOTHING. It is a dream. Ray, the mechanic, changed my trans fluid and filter since we were close to the 150,000-mile mark, and bright red fluid poured down into his catcher -- as bright and clear as if it had just been poured from the can. You CANNOT hear or feel the engine even when accelerating hard. OK, it drinks gas faster than my old '81 Citation but you know a 3.8L V-6 is going to be thirsty! The on-board computer tells me that I'm getting about 32-33 MPG at 65 MPH with no A/C. I half-way believe the computer on the highway thingie but in-town? Well, Hmmmmm, it's a little disappointing there. My advice? Get one. It's IS cool. It is a very sexy car, I think. My young female neighbor across the street thinks so too and she's a richie into Mercedes roadsters, folks! She actually came across the street with her dog to bill-and-coo over it the morning after I brought it home at night. "Is this your new car?" she asked. "Yeah," I said. "It's PR-E-E-EE-TTY!" she replied and inched along the sidewindows peering inside. Hey, I badmouthed Fords for years after my experience with a 1966 Ford Angela import. Never again if the Merc is typical of the company's new products.

Strength:

Space, good reliability, you can fart in it. Power driver seat is great to adjust when changing drivers. Comfortable to drive. Good balance in snowy conditions.

Weakness:

Akward way to open gas (through the trunk), multiple repairs (nothing major), lately had a smell coming from the motor. Nobody wants to buy one of these - resale value extremelly low.

I just got rid of this car. It had 130000 miles and was simply falling apart. It was serving us well, otherwise, there is no thrill in driving Mercury Sable. If you don't want to be cool - get yourself one of these.
