Poor MPG for city...small gas tank

Great car but terrible milage for city driving. Had it checked but was told all is OK...get''''s less than 15 mph...and tank is too small for that MPG.

Strength:

Good reliable comfortable car.

Weakness:

In Canada depreciation is horrendous.

We bought this car for our long trips south during the winter and it has not disapppointed us. It is a very comfortable ride and economical on gas. The dealer replaced a steering part under warranty which he found defective. We were not happy when we had to replace brakes with less than 60,000 kms.

Powerful 24v engine. Plenty of room. A variety of safety features. Rear Air conditioning. Large trunk. Cell phone plug. Electric adustable pedals and seats. A lot of extras for the money.

Weakness:

Paint craking and chipping on front bumper cover, steering moan.

My experience has been nothing but enjoyable. The ride is very smooth and enjoyable. On vacations I recieved excellent gas mileage (30 mpg). Also, easy to feel comfortable within at a fairly low cost.

The front wheel drive is great on snow. The trunk has more than enough room in it;the whole car has plenty of room. Also, it is a very good looking car.

Weakness:

I really can''t think of any. My car has been good to me because I have taken care of it.

I love this car. The only repairs that it had are due to the age of the vehicle. It had 48,500 miles on it when I bought it in 1996. It now has 155500 miles on it (Jan 02). I was involved in a car accident recently, and I am afraid the cost of the repairs might exceed the value of the car. The only things I have had done to it was replacing the radiator last summer, replacing the starter two sumers ago(2000), replacing the water pump (Dec 2000), and repairing the oil gasket (Nov 2001). I have also had to have the tie rod ends and cv boots replaced. I also replaced a hose three years ago. All these repairs are due to age, and I was never left stranded, or had a problem with this car without the car showing signs of a problem. The engine is in great condition because I get the oil changed regularly. I had the engine cleaned at 100,000 miles. It has been a great, reliable car.

Strength:

Nice riding car and pretty comfortable. Interior controls and dash are user friendly. If nothing else major goes wrong, it will have been fairly reliable.

Weakness:

Afraid maintenance costs will get out of hand. Items like high pressure hoses and tie rods should not wear out so fast and cost hundreds at the dealer. The paint around the bumpers is starting to fade out to a silver color on a dark green car.

I bought the vehicle with 13,000 miles on it as a dealer demo vehicle and have had it five years - only moderate driving and complete maintenance scehedule. At 30,000 miles - replaced the high pressure coolant hoses. I just got told at 48,000 miles that it needs new tie rods.

Strength:

Not bad on gas, cheap to maintain, comfortable, runs very good for an old car, no rust after 13 yrs and 230,000 km

Weakness:

steering a bit too stiff for my taste and rides a bit rough but im used to bigger cars

Ive been driving ford products for over 30 years and have had no serious problems with any of them. Judging by some of the reviews here, I would have to say that many of you must have a big "S" tattood on your forehead, the price you are paying for repairs. Even a rebuilt tranny with warrenty for my car is less than 600.00 cdn funds!! alternater 119.00 plus 30.00 core charge. for a 13 yr old car, mine is in outstanding condition, with no rust, excellent handling and no engine or tranny problems. Am I just lucky? I dont think so. I know many happy taurus, sable owners. I would bet that many of the tranny problems are because of trying to consistantly go 0 to 60 in record time. Buy your rice rockets and abuse them and see how long they last and see what repairs on them cost!!!

I purchased my Mercury Sable about nine months ago and have thoroughly enjoyed this car. Before purchasing this car I drove a 97'' Ford Escort. I haven''t had any problems with this vehicle yet besides vibrating at speeds above 60, which was fixed after having my tires rotated. This car is very roomy and very classy looking with an affordable price. People can''t believe this car is a Mercury Sable they think it''s some expensive luxury car. Actually when the dealer told me about the sable my response was I don''t want a sable it''s an old woman''s car. After seeing and test driving the sable I have been pleasantly surprised.
