Model Reviewed: Mercury Sable LS Premium

Strength:

Leather seats, power drivers seat, comfortable, the V6 engine, trunk space, sound system.

Weakness:

No break-away mirrors

The Sable is extremely powerful with the 3.8L V6, and is very nice-looking with the spoiler. You should get the spoiler. The car is reliable and comfortable. The gas mileage is very good and the car rides like a Lincoln.

Weakness:

Not a dependable car, gas mileage not that good, lots of bad noises. Very costly to keep in running condition, and no, I did not beat this car.

Car ran and drive great for the first month, then the oil pan rusted out, water pump went bad, then on New Years Eve on my way home the trans stopped letting the car move, in the middle of a busy intersection, you can imagine how much that wrecker bill was!

Model Reviewed: Sable GS Sedan

Strength:

I like the handling the best. It has a lot of trunk space. The 3.0L engine is very easy to maintain and has good pickup.

Weakness:

The transmissions one the sables and tauruses are very bad. Mine has been rebuilt but it still acts funny sometimes but i don't worry about it.

Well I do like this car. It had a lot of work done to it when i bought it. The only things I have done to it is put new front brakes, a new power brake booster, and new rear struts and springs that weren't even that bad. Right now the car has 150,000 miles and it is running great. I got the 3.0L engine which I thinks it less problemsome than the 3.8L. I bought it with 140,000 miles off a one owner.

Strength:

Acceleration, quiet for so many miles, better gas mileage than my 95 cougar. I can go about 250 miles between fills on my sable.

Weakness:

Gseries model has very cheap interior fabric. Very lightweight, cheap doors and of course, hubcaps. Of course, LS model is much nicer.

Bought it from a girl here in town. Had 96,610 on it when I bough it. Three days later started having strange electrical problems (could not roll windows down while in drive, only in park). It turned out to the the transmission rings or something like that. I got that fixed for 165. Since then it has been a very reliable car, I cannot complain. I have the Gseries model so its very stripped down, but it still has good pick up and a nice feel to it.

Strength:

power seats and windows

Weakness:

This car was a horrendous disaster on wheels! I went through complete hell with it. Problems; Defective idle went bad every season, brakes went bad every winter, rusts faster than normal, problems were not easily diagnosed, spent over a $1500 on the car within a few months.

I just gave away a pretty blue sable recently. Loved the power seats and windows and the luxury ride.

Strength:

roomy enough for my family, good pick up and go, user-friendly dash.

Weakness:

Steering wheel shakes quite a bit, brakes going out too soon, hear lots of rattles, sunroof leaking a lot until replaced, idle controler went out

I bought this car, thinking it was going to be really nice. Boy, was I wrong. The car's sunroof has leaked about 8 times. They finally fixed that. Now at only 55000 miles, I need new brakes, rotors, and have had to replace my idle control sensor, which cost about 200 or so. Now my engine light is on, and the dealership wants approx. 650 to replace something in the emissions called the intake manifold runner control. Has anyone ever heard of this before?

Strength:

Lovely interior, very neat. Drives well. Exterior is great. tyres are excellent.

Weakness:

MPG, conservation of gas.

Just bought the car, and it's really good. It sounds great, but the steering has some squeaking problems, but that's alright. The main problem is the MPG. And it doesn't conserve gas well enough.

Strength:

6 passenger seating, large trunk, V6 engine

Weakness:

Electrical and transmission

Purchased this car used with 34,000 miles. Had noisy heater fan replaced under warranty. Had drivers side electric window motor replaced (98,000 mi) and had tranny replaced (115,000 mi)current milage 136,000. Otherwise its been a nice car to drive and folding front console has come in very handy for 6 passengers. Will most likely buy another Sable next time.

Strength:

Styling is OK. Fairly easy to get parts for. Ride is OK. Comfortable on the road.

Weakness:

Very poor tranmission. It went out at 50,000 and expect it to only last about 50,000 miles. Bearing with hte serpertine belt developed a loud noise. That cost about $300 to get fixed. Heavy electrical drain on everything. Some electrical problems. Not real reliable.

Dangerously weak Transmission. Defineitely not kid or dogproof station wagon. The electrical system is weak. Car let go with no warning on Loop 610 on the way to the airport at 5:00 AM one morning. No warning or idiot lights to let you know what is happening. Lose the electrical system and everything dies. I had the car and it developed a mysterious coolant leak that I could never find. Usually had to add about a gallon per month. Overall, it is a comforable road car. It does have tranmission, electrical, cooling, and other similar problems.
