Strength:

It rolls fine when I push it on a trailer because the flex plate broke... again. Or when the key doesnt work and they want $170 for a new one.

Weakness:

I only have 2000 characters to describe this cars weaknesses? I need more... a lot more. Remember, its not just the car, its the company!

NOTE: I might be off on the time but the car had about 20k on it when we got it and it now has 71k. A few years ago I got a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant. All the test that people did on this car said it was a good car and was worth the money. Several months after I got the car, I noticed a small rattle. I could not figure out where it was comming from. So I took it to the dealership. The good news was that it was still considered new and they would fix it for free. That was part of the reason I got it. Well, after a few tries and a week or two, they figured it out. It was a broken flex plate. A flex plate is kinda like a fly wheel but it is not as thick and it is for an automatic. They replaced the converter and the flex plate and all was good. A year and a half later (give or take) The rattle came back. This time the dealer said there were too many miles on it fo rthem to fix it. I put about 30 - 40 k on the car in that time. I opend the hood to see if it was something I can fix and guess what I found. I found several bolts missing from the bell housing to the block and one that wasnt even all the way in. I got under the car and pulled off the dust cover and there it was. Yet another cracked flex plate. I called the dealer and explained to them, after they said no again, that when the car was in warranty they didnt fix the problem, they fixed the effect. They should do the right thing and fix what was causing the flex plate to crack. The service writer called the national Mitsubishi rep to get permision to do this. He said no. His reasons were this... He said "He must have been hot roding the car". I am 32 years old and I have 2 kids. I picked this car because of the kids. It has a 4cyl in it and its a 4 door. If you have any idea what a flex plate is, you know it is not possible to crack one from the power of this car. In fact, when I was younger and I was in to hot rodding cars, I have never broken a flex plate. I have broken u-joints, drive shafts, yolks and even riped the lug nutt holes on a 69 Mercury with the studs but I have never broken a flex plate from hitting the gas too hard. So, from this one must assume one or two things. Mitsubishi makes a crap car that they will not fix after you get it. Mitsubishi doesnt care about their customers. Mitsubishi makes a car that cant take every day driving and can not take hitting the gas. That last one IS what the national service rep implied. Lets say I did hot rod this car, I didnt, but lets say I did. Its not a break pad or a timing chain. Its a flex plate. Thats like teling me my doors fall off because I take off too fast. So if I am to go along with what this rep says, then Mitsubishi makes a crap car and I will never pay for one again. I also suggest that if you know someone and you care for their safty, dont let them buy one or even ride in one. Who knows... the motor might fall out if the driver turns up the radio too loud! If anyone wants to ask me more about this car or my dealings with Mitsubishi, ask the site admin to pass along my email to you or you can track me down at lnxclan.com I go by SPETZNAZ I also posted this on my forums. http://www.lnxclan.com/Forums/viewtopic.php?t=686

Model Reviewed: Mitsubishi Galant ES - 2.4L

Strength:

Roomier , quiet, smooth ride , controls are convenient and within easy reach.

Weakness:

minor blindspot in rear, poor glove compartment fit and trim.

Just purchased the new 2004 Galant. Galant is much roomier than the previous 1991 Galant GS that I owned for 10 years. Ride is much quieter, center console is fairly well laid out for easy reach although it took me a little while to figure out the ac/heater controls. Mine has the 6 disc carousel CD changer which is really neat. The driver's seat sits much higher than my previous Galant and although the 2004 Galant is on the same platform as the Mitsubishi Endeavor SUV, it almost drives and feels like an SUV. What can I say - the new Galant is a much roomier car and the 2.4L engine that is on mine gives me enough power to handle it. The fit and trim of the Galant is up to Mitsubishi standards and the only problem that I have found is a "gap" and poor fit of the glove compartment door that appeared "warped". Mitsubishi dealer is now ordering me a new door. For curiosity, I looked at 15 2004 Galants on the dealer's lot after going back and found 7 out of 15 Galants with poor fitting glove compartment doors. The rest of the "fit and trim" seems to be ok for now. The ride is much smoother and has a "tight" fit and quieter sound other than the 2.4L engine noise that is typical of this size engine. Backseat is roomier for 2 adults - maybe 3, but it's not cramped. Sound quality is really great as I have the six-speaker infinity system. As usual, the oil filter and oil pan is located at the front of the vehicle which is convenient for me since I change my own oil. The view out the back from the driver's seat is a bit blind, but not as bad as other cars that have the same blindspot problems. Trunk is nice - flat and large - with the pass through for carrying long items. The inside courtesy light really doesn't stay on long enough once I get into the car at nights and I have to turn on the light manually for that extra light. But, overall, the 2004 Galant is a great car.

You get a lot of car for your money.

Bought Galant in '02 with 9K miles. I currently have 37k on it. I haven't had any problems with this car. I personally don't like the brakes, never have, they feel spongy to me. I brought it to the dealership while it was under warranty to get it checked out, they told me it was normal. My sister also owned a Galant that had brake problems. Who knows? Most dealership mechanics are retards who avoid warranty work like the plaque. Overall its been a great car.

Weakness:

Cheap center console glove box, Cramped rear seating, gas mileage could be better

Bought in December 2002, this car has been a pleasure to drive. Many compliments on the styling. Overall a good looking, fun and safe vehicle to drive and thus far worry free. With the model change for 2004 I would bet the 2003's can be had quite cheaply. I would recommend it.

EVERYTHING!!!

This car is the biggest piece of sheeeit on the road! We have had it about 2 years now. It has 85,000 miles on it and the tranny is going. The tires are crap, the brakes are crap, the front bumper fell off, the driver sun visor fell off, the radio has never worked, the AC has never work.... Mitsubishi really knows how to screw the little guy. We have $7000 left to pay off and are just stuck.

Quiet ride, smooth drive, very nice interior/exterior, brakes and picks up very quickly

Weakness:

None yet, too soon I guess

Well although I have owned the car less than a month, I must say it is an excellent car. It is a very quiet ride, as well as a very quick car for being a 4 cylinder. The interior is very nice and clean, and the car itslef has a nice luxurious look to it. One friend told me that it looked like a BMW! I guess it is too soon, but so far, I can't compplain!

Lots of car for your money. Looks classy and in the league of the executive motors. Great for a family car or one for the executive rep on business travels who wants to get a second look.

I have just purchased a Mitsi Galant after having a Vauxhall / GM Cavilier SRi for 9 years. I have to say, the jap's know how to build a car:) I was really impressed with all the extra's you get in the Galant, side impact airbags, passenger and driver airbags, cruise control... and so much more. But what supprised me more than anything, was how quiet and smooth the car was to drive. And for a big motor, the steering was so light..... you could almost imagine you were driving a mini:) It looks really class'y and most people mistake it for a BMW or Audi ! Those that see it and ar'nt into cars are not sure what it is, but say it has class. Try and get one in matallic silver... it really looks the part. Prices vary, but you can get one quite reasonably if you shop about.

Pickup Smooth ride Price Excellent Handling straight and turns. ABS is value with V6 Engine models Good Front leg room space(who care for rear)

Weakness:

Interior need to have quality look. Passenger side Interior Lights should be must. Seat Clothing is very very cheap.

The first time I liked Mitsubishi was when I drove Rental Lancer. 500 miles drive in sub-compact car was a very smooth with Sporty feel (and less tiresome) and it was amazing and I couldn't beleive it. After I drove Rental Galant (4 Cyl) with @10000 miles on it, I said this is a car that worth the Money compared to Honda and Toyota. Same week I bought 2002 Galanat ES V6. It is a value. Even if I buy the extended Warranty for 7 Years/100000 miles for another @ 1000.00 dollars it may be worth keeping this car for a while. Lets see what happens next

Strength:

Quick pick up, sporty, great gas mileage, large trunk, low maintenance. Durable, reliable, safe, quiet, smooth ride,

Weakness:

At 21,000 miles the brakes are beginning to squeek. Less rear seat leg room and less overall shoulder room.

This is a great midsize car for the $. I previously owned a '95 Galant and enjoyed the spacious interior and smooth ride. Because of that I bought a '02. The '02 definitely has a smaller overall interior, however all of the upgraded features are a good compromise. The upgraded stero system and 7 speakers, side and front air bags, alloy rims, plush interior, sleek new design makes owning this car fun. My '95 Galant had more of a "family" car feel, which is what we needed, however the '02 has all the amenities of a family car and the cool sleek presence of a sporty car. I would definitely recommend the Galant for anyone in the midsize car market. It's a great value and a very sound car.

Great on gas, and comfortable, some what.

Weakness:

From the day that I got on the highway and got the car up to 65-80 MPH the front would shake really bad. Plus when you would slow down at that speed the steering wheel would shake really badly. People told me that it was the rotors and brakes, I had the rotors replaced and the problem continued. I took this car to have it services at Kopel Mitsubishi and they were really rude I end spending a lot of money and the problems were never fixed. Bottom line, I would not recommend this car to anyone, I'm not even sure if I would buy another Mitsubishi.

I like the car right away, the style the interior, price.
