Strength:

Gas Mileage Extremely comfortable Sporty look BEAUTIFUL interior Very smooth driving and great sound system

Weakness:

Acceleration Automatic transmission (not a weakness but I'd prefer a stick)

Overall, it is a great car, but it depends on what you're looking for. When I bought it, all I cared about was comfortable transportation, and it delivers that with flying colors. However if you're looking for speed, you need to look elsewhere. I got mine up to 111 (then got pulled over) and it's an automatic, but the problem is the acceleration. I think my 0-60 is somewhere around 10 seconds. Other than that, it's a wonderful car and great on gas.

Strength:

Low petrol usage Maximised boot space Hugs the road on tight corners Plenty of room to move for driver Very cute!

Weakness:

Very fragile glove box on 2002 models (has been replaced with upgraded sturdier version)

I am sooo happy with my Mirage!! I bought it about two months ago at one year old and it runs like a dream.. It is very zippy for a little car. I have never been into the little cars.. but this one has style and it is sooo fun to drive. You can fit quite a bit in the boot, despite its small appearance. The front area is very spacey as well. I had a shonky glove box and my air conditioning light stopped working.. but Mitsubishi replaced them within days under warranty and their service was very friendly, fast and helpful. It uses hardly any petrol compared to my previous car (Nissan Bluebird). I took it on a 600 kilometre round trip and it loved it!! Hugged the road on all of the tight corners and saved me a bucketload in money for petrol because it barely uses any on the long straight roads. Thankyou to everyone for their reviews because if I hadn't read them I would not have ended up with such a great little car!!

Gas milage.

Weakness:

The Acceleration. But haven't had problems in merging into freeways.

Great Small Car. I have taken it a couple of long trips from Houston Tx. to Grand Canyon in 2000 and '03 to Big Bend National Park in West Texas. It is not 0 to 60 in under a minute, but I've taken it over 100 mph several times during those trips.Handled the tight turns and steep grades that exist in parts of Big Bend Park. Over 78000 miles on it. Only repairs other the normal wear and tear ( Battery,Tires )was LP AC line from the Compressor to firewall & a recall to replace a bolt in power steering. To bad Mitsubishi decided to dump it for the butt ugly Lancer.

Strength:

Excellent gas mileage, reliable

Weakness:

Extremely slow, cheap interior

Affordable transportation, nothing more, nothing less. This is my first car, and so far, it has done its job. I have made some modifications, such as 17 inch rims, exhaust, lowering, etc. The car looks great now, but I just wish it was FASTER. A LOT FASTER. The interior is pretty cheap and I don't have power windows/locks. Overall, a good car for the value.

Strength:

* Reliable * Great on gas * Perfect size for small people - offers great visibility & the steering wheel isn't right up against your chest; still decent for big/tall people

Weakness:

* CD/Radio system could be a little better, but it's okay * Seats not too comfortable on very long trips * Cheap hubcaps, but those can always be replaced

This car was the first new car I ever had. It's very reliable & good on gas. I have had absolutely no problems with it at all. Definitely recommended for anybody who's small like me (5'0").

Awsome power if you Know how to drive a standard. Killer milage.

Weakness:

Bearings, breaks, cluch, auto seatbelt, and horable road noise, the flat top motor styles blow head gaskets.

How to begine, the exhaust I need is in Japan = $700 from bottom of manifold to the cat. One drum alone = $160 each. Valves tick, and my replaced cluch has a dirty shutter after one night of racing around town. Besides the important parts breaking down all the little things work great. and the power that you can get out of the Transmision is Amazing. Oh by the way I've been waiting 50 DAYS for my parts so far!!!!!!!!

The engine for it's milage(120,000miles) runs great. Doesn't make any rough noises or anything like that.

Weakness:

The car at 80 mph start to shake like crazy but up to that point its rides smoothly.

The car on overall is great. The interior is good. The look on the outside is not as good as some of the other cars from the same year. Some problems that I had with the car are: alternator broke 2 times, it burns oil(have to add one bottle every two weeks), and the AC doesn't work.

Good power. Power windows, Locks and great stereo sound.

Weakness:

Center armrest needs vinyl covering not cloth, leans a little much in corners.

Nice little car and seems to be something that will last for a while. The ride is nice, especially having just ended a relationship with a Mazda Miata. I have the Automatic and see no problem with avaiable power. The handling is a little soft, but tires can make up for alot of the leaning. I would recommend this car to anybody needing good solid transportation. I looked at the Lancer and just found it plain ugly. At least the Mirage has a little more style to it. Now if I can just spice it up a bit...

Strength:

Decent acceleration, good looks, good mileage.

Weakness:

Ergonomics, seats not very supportive.

I normally don't do reviews, but in this case I had to. I think some folks here had some unrealistic expectations. First, it's an economy car. Those looking for 5 second 0-60 times need to look elsewhere. My car: 2001 Mirage ES Sedan, PW, PDL, CD, A/C. Purchased used in 1993 w/29K miles. Performance: Not the fastest car off the line. 1st gear is a little mushy until about 2500 RPM, (guessing, no tach on the auto) then kicks in with a vengeance. 55 MPH in 2nd. Don't kid yourself, this car can accelerate. The SOHC 16V motor rates @113HP. With a DOHC motor, (which would add about 20HP) this car would seriously ROCK. Where this car really shines is on the freeway. It passes with the best of them. IMO, Mitsubishi struck a good balance between performance and economy with this car. Comfort: A good commuter car. The seats are too flat, they don't offer much in the way of support. (I guess that's why they call them economy cars?) Not very comfortable for long drives. My wife bought me a sheepskin seat cover which helps a lot. At 6'1", 235, I have plenty of room once I'm in the car, but it's getting in the car that's the problem. the steering wheel tilts, but doesn't go high enough. The A/C works well, but mileage suffers badly when used. The heater works almost too well. The center console armrest and steering wheel could be positioned a little higher as a concession to us taller drivers. The rear seat armrest is a nice touch. Rear seat room is adequate, although my 5'7" 13 year old is starting to find it a bit small. The rear driver's side seat is pretty much useless if the driver is tall. Dashboard controls are claearly marked and easy to use, but should be brought forward a bit. (Another 3 inches would be nice) I agree with some other posters here that the cupholder is in a bad place. 32 ounce cups won't fit, unless they have the smaller base, (Thanks, Jack in the Box) and they block the stereo controls. City driving is very quiet and civilized. Road noise on the highway is a bit loud, but I've been in noisier cars. Overall a fairly quiet car for this class. Looks: Much nicer looking than most cars in this class. Very sporty front end with the facia under the bumper. Still, I might swap it for one of those awesome Evo kits I've seen. (Go for the Evo 4, it doesn't require any body mods.) Overall, this car is a great value. Fit and finish are good, and the performance is above average for this class of car. It's a no-frills, practical econobox, but it goes about being that very well with style. An excellent choice for a commuter car.
