Power Appearance

Weakness:

Large turning radius. Low beams are aimed too low. Back seat has no head room.

I could not be more pleased with this car. The power to pass and accelerate from a stop is huge. The transmission is smooth, although I have learned you can avoid a jerk by easing the gas peddle down and not gunning it. The Sunlit Sand paint color which I was not in love with on the lot, looks great out in the real world. In dim light it goes from gold to silver in appearance. I believe I was fortunate to get the regular cd player and not the Bose. The sound quality is extraordinary; great bass, and no problems. I love the lower back support feature. My '93 Buick Regal had absolutely none. This car also looks very sporty compaired to the other cars in its class. Sort of looks like its snarling from the front and has a nice upswept look from the back. My favorite feature is the black leather steering wheel and Titanium dash and the look of the cd player. You feel like your flying a 747. And I love the fact that I'm not driving a Toyota Camry. There are 100 of these on the road for every Maxima I see. I feel like something special. On top of that, since the Maxima is not "in style" at the moment, I got a great deal on it. Glad I caught it before they start making it in the U.S. They're bound to have problems associated with the new facilities.

Strength:

The looks of the car, Headlights, POWER, POWER, POWER!!, Comfort, interior room, fun to drive, dependability, alot of standard options that don't come on most cars, I like the garage door opener built into the sunvisor! Good driver visibility, I like the color, Titanium Mist!

Weakness:

Hood vibration (seems loose at higher speeds), rear window wind noise, engine has slight clatter when given gas, kind of like when you need higher octane gas. I've never used anything but supreme gas. (dealer checking on this, I hope) My dealeship is rude and not dependable, I don't plan on buying from them again.

Well, I have to tell you, this is one of the best cars I have owned. I couldn't ask for a better engine or trans. combo! I do notice though, that when in overdrive that when I let off of the accelerator and just barely touch it again that the car seems to jump. The shop is checking that out right now. The ride is great, a little stiff, but handles great. A very dependable car compared to the Hyundai Sonata I traded in for it! The hood seems loose at high speed and it has just started alot of wind noise in the rear windows. Headlights are awesome! I wish the high beams were zenon too though. Overall, a great car. Just wish the dealership was half as good. They aren't worth a flip.

Strength:

World class engine. Smooth, quiet, and strong. A very comfortable car that handles well and is very quick when you want it to be.

Weakness:

I don't know of one.

This car is the best car for the dollar in the world is you want an all around car. It doesn't really have any weaknesses and has many strengths. A very well designed, well made, wonderfully refined car.

Strength:

Body style Horsepower Excellent price for all you get.

Weakness:

The paint chips very easily. The engine light came on at 33,000 miles and the oxygen sensor needed to be replaced. Then 5,000 miles later the engine light was back on. The dealer is currently ordering me another oxygen sensor. What is the deal with that because they cound't explain it. The hood flies at high speeds. Acceleration is noisy pulling off.

I love my Maxima. There is no other car I really desire to own. I have driven my Maxima from city roads to country roads and it has not failed me. It is one of the most beautiful cars on the highway but Nissan needs to improve on the quality of paint so it can remain flawless.

Strength:

-Amazing Engine -Smooth Tranny -Sharp Looking (especially with the Titanium Edition package) -nice firm seats -xeon headlights are to die for

Weakness:

-Bose Radio is on par with my friends 1989 Civic with speakers duct taped to the dash -check engine light @ 3000 miles? -u-turns that are reminiscent of 70s era buicks

I'll tell you all, right now I'm on the fence about this car. What it has in strengths seems to be met by weakness. This car is sharp looking, fast, has the best headlights i think ive ever seen, great breaking, and is fun to drive. On the flip side I have about 3500 miles on this car and the entire left side of my radio goes in and out depending on its mood. A good bump i got tunes another bump Im a mono-boy again. They are going to get me another head unit, we will see. Additionally the sub-woofer rattles everything and that sub-woofer is really a poorly powered 6x9. The check engine light keeps coming on/off at only 3000 miles, maybe I need an oil change? I dont think so, but i will give the maxipad the benefit of the doubt. This car couldnt make a U-turn if you paid it, 3 lanes is a stretch for me. This is not what i had expected from a car with such high customer loyalty. I want my mercury sable back!

SPEED,LIGHTS,BOSE STEREO SYSTEM,CLIMATE CONTROL,BRAKING DISTANCE,PASSING POWER,LEATHER AND SEAT HEATER AND EVERY OTHER THING ABOUT THIS CAR EXCEPT FOR TWO THINGS...

Weakness:

THE OTHER TWO THINGS THAT ARE MAJOR WEAKNESSES IN THIS CAR IS THE REAR SUSPENSION AND THE GAS CAP CAN'T GET TAKEN OUT OF THE CAR.

I have always wanted the Nissan Maxima ever since I got my 1998 Toyota Camry that never did me wrong which I wish Nissan worked on their rear suspension compared to other cars.I used to work at the dealership where I got my car, so I got a great deal. This car is fast, great braking on wet surfaces, the xeon lights are a knockout, comfortable, shatterproof glass that comes with the ACE security system, sunroof, traction control, leather, and every other option I got for free which was cool and only like paid like 500 dollars over invoice as well as a 2500 dollar trade for my Camry which I miss in some ways but it's all good.I would recommend this car to anyone but the rear suspension has to go and the gas cap(the fact it stays on the car) and can't take it out like other cars.

Stolen Xeon Lights and the SE suspension

This car is great, i have had no problems with this car, very powerful, only minus is the turn radius, compare to my Acura TL the only problem is the xeon lights, both my Acura TL and the Maxima had its lights stolen, it is a hot item here in NYC, the morning i discovered my headlights was stolen, cops told me that they are stealing alot of the Xeon lights from various cars, from Maximas, the new Altimas and Acuras, please adv if anyone else is hearing this problem. thanks

Strength:

Awesome little engine, awesome Bose stereo, rock solid body structure, no problems whatever, great build quality, no squeaks or rattles which is quite impressive given how stiff the suspension is.

Weakness:

Solid rear axle is out-dated but at least I don't have to worry about a rear wheel aligment. It would be nice to have a telescoping steering wheel and more gauges.

I have had my Maxima for over two years and it has been a great two years. Awesome little engine, awesome Bose stereo, rock solid body structure, no problems whatever, etc.

Strength:

Very quiet interior, decent ride, reliability, leather, automatic climate control.

Weakness:

Paint chips easily,ABS brakes are optional(i do not have them),poor brake performance and design, overpriced and mediocre Bose sound system($900!),poor engine compartment design(most of the hoses are extremely close to the engine),ugly rear end.

After having so many problems with my 1995 Dodge Stratus ES i decided it was time for a trade-in,i have to confess that i was not impressed with the style of the 1995-99 Maxima, but after i drive it for a half hour i was sold. This car is a joy to drive ,now i am a proud owner. The only problem i've had was when the NVIS (Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System) malfunctioned and for that reason i could not start the engine, the car was towed into my local Nissan dealer and they reprogrammed both keys(the key has an electronic chip inside) and the ECU for $80. The engine runs very smooth and there is very little interior noise(thus i can listen to my music better),the car is a lot quieter than my father's 1999 Honda Accord EX.The Nissan Maxima VQ engine have been selected one of the best ten engines(regardless of price!) for eight years in a row by Wards Auto World magazine.
