Strength:

Power, handling, braking. Very appealling to those in professional careers, or just wanting to look good. Potentially great sound system.

Weakness:

Bose sound system having repeated problems.

Some older gentleman (likely with more money) was hard-balling the dealership over this car. He left to think about it and give them some more heat. He came back just as I was filling out the paperwork for it. The car has been phenominal and lends a very professional appearence. The clean inside is comfortable and roomy. The car feels like a dream and is even perfect for rolling down the windows and sun roof and driving down by the beach, day or night. The power is perfect for when you need to move, and the brakes handle well in emergencies. There have been 2 recalls so far, but the dealership has been more than happy to handle them. My only complain is that the Bose sound system is not working to expectations. The sub-woofer rattles on base and even during some talk radio, and the front speakers are fading in and out when accelerating, braking, or anything that might jar the car. The dealership can't recreate this intermittent problem so I have to put up with this until I can convince them. The sub-woofer has been replaced once already. It still has some rattling. Might be the frame, but not what I expected with a Bose system.

Amazing car - I got the 6 spd manual and this thing will fly!. Put STB (strut tower brace) on front and 245/45/17 Mich. Pilots all around. Car handles very well to be it's size. Very comfortable, huge amount of torque and just sits down under acceleration as if on rails. I also owned a 99 SE and a 2001SE. The 2002 feels slightly larger, but handles as well and is a lot more fun to drive with the 6 spd. and 255 h.p.! A very noticeable difference from my 2001. I bought at true $1000 below invoice - got all the whistles & bells - leather- sunroof - Bose - convenience group.

Strength:

handling, power, reliability, style, resale, easy to fix

Weakness:

Poorly packed front wheel bearing, caused squeak, replaced after found at 60,000. An O2 sensor also replaced after 55,000.

We had a 94 automatic-loved it, bought the 1999 new, 5 speed. Best car I have ever driven, no rust, good handling, slick-looking and comfortable. Plenty of power, room and safety features. Reasonable insurance rating and would buy another in a heartbeat--this one has over 60,000 miles on it.

Due for a remake next year

Price is in Canadian Dollars. Would equate to about $24,000.00 US. Took delivery of my Maxima about a month ago. Thought I should wait awhile before writing a review so I could be more subjective. To say I am pleased would be a serious understatement. This is my first Nissan product after owning Honda's, Volvo's and Toyota's. The car is a thrill to drive and is amazingly well optioned. In Canada when you purchase an SE model with the leather package you get all the options. A heated steering wheel hmmm, that will come in handy when it is -40 this winter.

Stiff Steering

I have had this 1989 Nissan Maxima for quite sometime now, and quite frankly, Im still very much impressed with the way this vehicle rides. Extremely smooth rides and very comfortable interior are morely just the few good things about this car. The Steering is a little Stiff but handles very well under wet conditions. I also find that the 89 has the engineering of there older models but filled with alot of the newer toys. It was the years after that, which had the Transmission problems and AC problems. However, the 89 is the one to get, having the old style of there engineering in which it never failed with the new look having the digital dash, the kool litle toys, leather interior and the Air Ride system... This Car is truly nice, I was dissapointed with the newer models from 90-94 which had made problems and glitches with Transmission, Engine Realay failure, Alternator Failure,Power Antenna falures and so on. from 95 and up, the concept and engineering had changed and look quite impressive.

Road noise (tires)

My first Max. My first foreign car. Got it with 20K miles now it has 40K. No problems so far except the gas gauge doesn't work but I use the odometer. I bought it because it was a few thousand less than a Toyota with the same equipment and I can cross my legs in the back seat. I am 6'2 and I find it has ample headroom both fromt and rear. There are some parts that seem a little cheap like the armrest but it is holding together a lot better than the Caddi Seville I had before the Max. I think there a better cars out there but you are going to spend a whole lot more if you want one.

The Nissan Maxima is a dream come true. It is one of the best cars out there and always has been. The 3.5 liter pumps out an incredible 255hp. this car is very fast and powerful, there are very feew cars on the road that can compete with me at the light. the interior is very comfortable and it comes with great leather seats. the controls on the dashboard are easy to access and the bose sound system is incredible.
