Strength:
the 3.0 litre V6 engine! comfy ride(with active damper suspension), excellent reliability, safe handling, very roomy, good driving position.
Weakness:
needs a smoother transmission, they should get the europeans to fine tune the handling/ride for them since they have strong french connections now. needs a bit more body rigidity, feels a bit loose for my liking. Some interior rattles. Had this car for 6 years now. It has prove to be a very reliable one, no mechanical problems at all, except for a few niggles like dashboard noise and window rattles. The Engine is beautiful!! power delivery is creamy smooth. but the auto transmission could need an improvement, shifting is not smooth enough(wish I bought a manual except there isn''t any manual model with the top spec). While it''s a good drive, but still has that typical japanese boringness, sort of like eating plain vanilla icecream all the time. I wish I could have the handling and turn-in like my friend''s BMW 330i. although the maxima is heaps cheaper than that! overall happy. Similar Products Used: Mazda 626, Opel Vectra. |

Strength:
Great Acceleration, Reliability, and Quality.
Weakness:
Brakes seem to wear out quite fast. Around 15,000. But will put better aftermarket pads. It is the best car that I have driven. My father bought the car in December of 1994. He paid about $25,000 Can. Dollars. So far I have about 135,000 Miles in it. I''ve never had any mechanical problems with it. I have always took it to the delearship and it cost''s me an average of $100 Can. The only two problems I find of it is the brakes seems to wear out very fast, and it is expensive to replace. Also I like to drive the car very hard. It dosen''t like to be driven softly. I would definitely recommend this car for any body that want''s to have a good sports sedan. But I wouldn''t use it as a family car. Similar Products Used: None. |

Nissan Maxima GLE
Strength:
Engine (best V6 on the planet), transmission, HID headlights ($800 option on BMW), cornering abilities, sports car ride with 17inch wheels, 200 Watt Bose/6CD, micron air filtration system, heated outside mirrors (steering wheel and seats), fit and finish, front and side airbags, quiet interior with no rattles, reliability.
Weakness:
None. I read some auto reviewers complain about the ride of the rear-beam axle suspension, but I don''''''''''''''''t agree because it has better cornering abilities than independent suspension. First of all, I would like to travel to Oppama, Japan to thank and shake the hands of the workers of this auto plant for making the Maxima/Infiniti I35 such a great and reliable vehicle. Those workers must take pride in every car they build (just look at all the reviews). I can say with the confidence that this vehicle is the best sports sedan for under $30,000 (maybe even $35,000). The only other car that comes really close is the Acura TL type S but it costs $5,000 more. I purchased the Maxima (GLE Meredian edition) at Woodbury Nissan and got a great year end deal (Dec. 31st). You get the most bang for your buck with this car. The list of options and features that you get from the top of the line Maxima is just incredible for the price you pay, which would cost close to $40,000 on most German made vehicles. Also, the reliability of this vehicle is second to none considering it hasn''''''''''''''''t had a recall in 12 years. My wife has a 1996 Maxima GLE (see my July 2001 review) which has over 100,000 miles and the only thing we replaced was an $18.00 headlight. I would like to see if any of those poorly designed domestic vehicles can beat that record. The sad fact is that they can''''''''''''''''t. A few weeks ago I drove a rental 2002 Buick Regal (with all the options)and I couldn''''''''''''''''t believe the vagueness of the steering and the poor shifting of the transmission. The Maximas steering, transmission, road manners, acceleration, etc. was light years ahead of this GM vehicle (also it rattled, typical GM). Needless to say I couldn''''''''''''''''t wait to come home and drive the Max again. Also, the lumbar and lateral supports of the drivers seat make long distance driving a pleasure. Like I said before, if there is a better car on the market for the money, prove it. Finally, I would bet money that this car will last 200,000 miles with no major engine, suspension or transmission problems. Similar Products Used: 1996 Nissan Maxima 1990 Nissan 300ZX |

good pick up reliable nice interior drives like a dream
Weakness:
cupholders are in the glove compartment This car is amazing. i dont want to jinx myself but i think it will never die. It rides like a dream and it doesnt appear to be 12 years old. the interior looks better than most new cars and the exterior style is still very modern. As for performance, i really can''t ask for much more. i havent done any hook ups on it and it still cruises at 115+. in the 12 years, only problem was the fuel pump broke last winter. THATS IT! 12 years of driving and only $475 spent on it.(Excluding the normal oil change, tires, battery, etc) MAXIMA IS THE BEST! I''d really love to buy a 2002 maxima soon. I also heard a rumor that the 2003 will have the Infinity Q45 engine which is a V8 340 hp engine. Does anybody know if that is true? |

Absolutely everything. Also, the first Dealership that ever sent me a Christmas card! The dealer is the best in Alberta - believe me - I shopped around.
Weakness:
My clients think I make too much money when they see this thing. I have a 98 GLE fully loaded including sunroof. I must say that this is (by a wide margin) the absolute best car I have ever driven. I''m used to Ford''s, Chev''s and Chryslers, and cannot believe that I drove these pieces of sh*t as long as I did. The Maxima is awesome. It handles great, looks great, and rides great. My previous cars include a 1985 Chrysler Laser (which was a great little college car, but died after 180,000 km), a 1991 Chev Lumina Z34 (great for power, but needed about $4,000 worth of work at 160,000 km, and a 1995 Mercury Mystique with 160,000 km - and after reading other reviews, I have gotten rid of each of these previous lemons at the right time). The Maxima cannot be compared to these cars, the maxima is in a far better class. It is my first import, and I have become a Nissan man. I keep telling my friends to buy one. They all remark on how good it looks and rides. Ford, Chev, and Dodge owners - do yourselves a favor - ditch your cars and get a maxima - you''ll feel like a higher-class citizen when you drive this thing!! Similar Products Used: 1981 F150 - first vehicle I ever owned - piece of junk but I loved it nevertheless 1985 Laser - what a fantastic little car that cost me $1000 plus $1,500 after rebuilding the clutch 1991 Z34 - wen |

Great Power Great Features Great Looks Very Dependable
Weakness:
No Cupholders Excelent value, I have put almost 80,000 miles on this car over the last year since i bought it and it still runs like a champ. Up to 235,000 miles now. I even drove the car 16 hours each way down to South Beach Miami for spring break. In the past year, i''ve done the muffler, alternator, timing belt/chain, and put on new tires. But thats normal considering I bought the car at 184K miles. Never broke down, no serious issues. Great vehicle. |

Strength:
Very comfortable, fairly easy to work on, drives nice, decent gas mileage (21-22 city, generally 29 mpg hwy), very reliable so far, has the potential to be customised.
Weakness:
The few mechanical items above, the 97 models and newer look better IMO Overall, this car is not too bad. It drives very nice, good power with the V-6, handles well enough for every day driving. I don''t really have that many complaints about the car. On the second day that I owned the car, the check engine light came on. I started to have a rash of these lights. I was able to decode the faults by using an internet sie that has code lookups (http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecudecoder.html) I was getting faults for O2 sensors and the purge volume control valve. When I eventually took it to a Nissan dealer, I was able to get most of the problems fixed (for free). Apparently, 96 Maximas have known problems with O2 sensors. The only other little nags that I have are the "sticky" accelerator and transmission when the car is cold. None of this is bad enough that makes the car unsafe but just annoying. The sticky accelerator is like this: When you are stopped at a light (for instance), you press the gas and there seems to be a delay in the car responding the throttle. However, when you hit the gas a little harder, the car takes off a bit more faster than wanted. Annoying problem but I have managed with it. When cold, the transmission shifts at a much higher rpm (from first to second) than it does when the car is warmed up. This is the first automatic that I have had that does this. Maybe newer ones do this kind of thing. Not a big deal but just kind of annoying. Good for single people crowd (of which I am a memeber of) or the married crowd. Probably one of the few 4-door cars out there that I would not consider a "mommy car". Similar Products Used: None similar |

Great engine, great looks, great ride, and when its fully loaded like mine is, great heated leather seats.
Weakness:
At 80,000 miles the transmission is getting kind of grabby, but that is about the only weakness there is I traded in my 1999 Ram on this car when winter was over. What a great idea, the gas mileage is great, and so is the speed and comfort. Similar Products Used: 1990 Celica GT-S 1999 Dodge Ram 4x4 |

1.2000 Pontiac Grand AM V6 Auto - nosy, unrefined, cramped inside, independent rear suspension, which performs, much worse compare to Max multi-link. You get what you pay for. 2.2001 BMW 330i 5spd - very nice car if 10K less. Still prefer Max clutch and inside space. 3.1996 Nissan 200SX SE-R 5spd - very sporty, but too demanding. Impossible to drive in relaxed manner. 4.2001 Audi A4 V6 Auto - Nice, but not sporty enough, V6 is just OK. 5.2001 Audi A4 Quarto 5spd - what can I say - no guts. 6.2002 Nissan Altima 3.5 5spd - very good package - feels less expensive inside but the real problem is a shifter - very bulky - Max shifter feels like a joystick in comparing. 7.1999 Honda Accord V6 Auto - I like the suspension, but too much on a family side. Does not like to be driven hard.

SE 20th Anniversary 5spd
Strength:
Can be driven in very aggressive or very soft mode - depends on a driver''s mood. In both ways almost excels in everything. To me it is very important because some cars are to specialized to do one thing only. Examples – try to drive aggressively Camry or try to relax it 200 SX SE-R.
Weakness:
1. Yes, rear multi-link suspension in not as good as independent on a bumpy roads, but it contributes to a less car Weight. On a smooth road you will not see any difference. 2. Weight distribution is better in BMW. 3. Body roll less in BMW but very predictable in Max. If you adjust - very few cars feels more secure. 4. BMW shifter it better but not by far. 5. BMW clutch is better if you want to launch fast, but Max clutch is better in stop and go traffic. Excellent car. I am not a car fanatic, but I do read magazines reviews and trying to test drive different cars all the time. Still after owning Max for more than a year it makes me smiling. The only car I can compare it to is BMW 330i, but we are talking about 10K more expensive ride. If you want a sport sedan for less than 30K which kicks but of 40K Cars – it is the one.
