OK, I have achoice to make and need help! I am going to buy 2 cars. Either loaded Maxima SE (2002) for $30,000 and loaded Pathfinder (2001 or 2002)for about $35,000 for total of $65,000 OR loaded Acura TL-S (2002)for about $32,000 and loaded MDX (2002) for about $41,000 for total of $73,000 Are the Acura''s worth the $8000 ?? I have a 1997 Max SE now. Test drove the 2002 Max SE. Great interior, great acceleration but same old body roll. Maybe with an aftermarket sway bar I can fix that? What about future resale? Dealer service? Would appreciate feedback!

Strength:

Smooth acceleration. 3.5L V6, Bose six disk cd change. Nice looking factory 17in rims w/low prifile V rated tires. The interior is full of soft plastics and the leather seats are very comfortable. Has Xenon headlights standard, as well as auto dimming rear view miror. This car is perfect for a single guy like myself who''s looking for a car that can double as a sports sedan or a family mobile in the future. I highly recommend this car.

Weakness:

The rear suspension. The suspensin drops when going over speed bumps no matter how slow your driving. The huge turning radius. Be careful trying to do U turns

2002 Maxima - The Most powerful car in its class for less $$$. New for 2002 is a 3.5L V6 with 255hp & 246lb/ft torque. Xenon Headlights and Six speed Manual. I bought the auto 2002 SE. Im 22 yrs old and i wanted a sporty car with luxo without the luxo car payments. This car is the perfect balance of the two. Mine is Majestic Blue with charcoal interior. I also Like the contempory looks of the car not as flashy and unrefined as the 2002 Altima.

Haven''t found one yet.

Wonderful car. We currently own 3 BMW''s and mine turned over 100K and it was time to look. Drove a Honda, Toyota, BMW and the Maxima. I love the Maxima. It drives better, rides better than the BMW. Much smoother and quieter. Not all that engine noise. I just feel in love with it. I could have spent more money on a car but why? This car has it all.

Strength:

- Silky smooth engine - above average stereo - v rated tires - considering its size, not much body lean when cornering

Weakness:

- the rear beam axle that Nissan calls ''rear multi-link beam''. Some cheap marketing to spruce up what it really is. Rear independent suspension is a must for this car. You can feel the back end hop and sway over bumps. - get rid of the speed sensitive steering

I drove a Jeep Cherokee for 5 years prior to the Maxima. You can imagine the difference. The engine is the best part of this car. Very smooth and quick acceleration but no rocket. I got the auto. I should have waited for the 02 model. It''s the same price without leather and sunroof. The Maxima is a great value for quality sports sedan.

Engine reliability and interior

Weakness:

Wheel well rust (alberta has lots of snow which means lots of salt in winter).

Bought this car four years ago, now have 240,000 km''s on it. Never had to fix anything. It runs and looks as if new (except for little rust on wheel wells). Remember this car is twelve years old. Sitting inside you''d never know that.

Model Reviewed: Nissan Maxima SE

Strength:

My only comparison is to the Corolla. That said, it''s much more powerful, and corners superbly. The SE is definitely not a "soft" ride--you do feel the road, but that''s an aspect of the "sport" suspension. It is quite quiet, however. The "standard" audio system is very good but not mind-bending. Ergonomic placement of things like storage cases and cupholders is extremely well thought out. Steering wheel audio controls are nice, but are almost impossible to use at night. I love the black on white speedometer and tachometer, and the neon blue and red lights they cast at night. I also love the keyless remote control, and the fact that it serves as a kill switch and car alarm as well--no need to install a separate system to get an insurance discount. Another nice touch is the adjustable "lumbar" section built into the driver''s seat. And of course--The Spoiler, which seems to seem more much integrated with the Maxima than those you see on other cars that look like they were just "nailed on."

Weakness:

Acceleration at under 50MPH can be a bit chuggy at times--you really feel the gears switching in automatic. Above 50MPH, however, the thing bashes through the speed limit without breaking a sweat. The rear trunk seems rather tinny--you feel that if close it too hard it will bend. What else? Well, the heater doesn''t seem to be as strong as that in my old Corolla. Maybe it''s more subtle, but at "high" the flow of air doesn''t blow you away. I haven''t had to use it that much, however. Oh, and the seats aren''t the most comfortable in the world, but they''re fine for my purposes.

This is the most luxurious car I''ve ever owned, which you can take for a grain of salt because I''ve been driving standard-issue Corollas for the last 20 years, including 11 years with my last one. Felt it was time for a change (and five years of car payments!) in both style and substance. I was limited myself to a Maxima SE base--no leather or other expensive options. I was finally able to swing a good deal on a new 2001, Merlot model with 3.9% five year financing. As good as you''re going to get with Nissan these days. In any case, this "base" car has everything my approaching middle-age psyche wanted. ABS (standard, now, on Maximas), cruise, CD player, cruise, tilt steering wheel, air bags, four doors, "sports-type" powerful engine, power doors and windows, remote keyless entry alarm, mudflaps, and of course--The Spoiler. Contrary to those who say it''s a boring car, well, most family sedans are boring. But of all the boring family sedans I looked at, the SE was the only one that gave me the illusion I was driving a sports car as I shlep the kids to soccer practice and birthday parties. I''ve only had it for a few weeks, but so far, no regrets.

Superb engine, nice slick shifter, good accelaration, good cornering ( not as the bimmer ), good brakes, elangantely interior, excellent sound system ( alot better then German counterpart... EXTREMELY RELIABLE.

Weakness:

No split folder seats, front wheel drive, little wind noise.

I was looking for a used car with a V6 manual, sedan, fun to drive and reliable. I tried many cars, Passat, BMW 323i, Audi 2.8. These cars were great, Bimmer 15000 more for a 1999, 9000$ more for A4, Passat +2000. They all need a $2800 warranty extension because the re so expensive to repair and not very reliable. Does it worth it?????????

Strength:

Everything, power, handling, build quality, interior material quality, ride... I could go on and on!

Weakness:

1. The Bose radio is a POS, reliability for them is horrible, kind of odd paying 900 dollars for an optional upgrade to a less reliable stereo system! 2. The A-pillars rattle, but this is easily solved by putting a soft cloth in space that is in-between the A-pillar and the dash. That is the only thing that rattle in the entire car. 3. The chassis could be a little more rigid. I went so far as to bolt on a front strut tower brace and it still feels kind of loose.

It''s got over 100,000 miles and nothing non-routine has had to be replaced other than the oil sender, and that was only replaced as a precaution. Even clutch is stock! This is an absolutely great car. I will never buy anything except Nissan from here on out, I''ve had it with General Motors and Ford and their sorry excuse for quality. I can''t wait to go buy a ''02 Maxima. They are running VERY low 14''s @ over 100 mph in the quarter-mile with the 6 speed transmissions. Once limited slip diffential is made available in december very high 13s are not out of the question. To people that don''t realize what that means... that is about the same times Corvettes were capable of at best before 1997 when the LS1 came out.
