Strength:

I think when you floor the maxima and the engine makes that sweet sound it is the greatest feeling in the owrld. It has one of the most powerful V6 engines around. The seats are very comfortable. The lights are very powerful.

Weakness:

Turning off the engine and getting out of the car.

My experiences with this product is amazing. I love to floor the car because of the noise the engine puts out it is so sweet. I have the option with rear slip differensional and i used it in the snow and i was fine. this car is amzing!!! i rate this car the highest it can go.

Strength:

VQ30DE engine has incredible torque and revs freely up to redline. Like I said, it feels at home wherever you take it...from the freeway to the stoplight. Suspension is well-tuned, right between comfort and sport, although for a boy-racer like me a bias toward sport would be better. Body looks good until the rear lights...I'm gonna change those too. Bose stereo is great, along with sound insulation. For a $22, 000 dollar car it feels convincingly luxurious, even with sport suspension. Ergonomics are great, and even though center console is bland, ease-of-use makes up for its blandness. Very stealth- a good choice for people who drive a little fast, especially in black.

Weakness:

Nothing major, except...
-Deep clutch- although I've only been driving stick for a year, I learned with this car, and I'm still not used to cluctch. I cut off weekly, and jerk when shifting from 1st-2nd gear(@ around 3000 rpm though)
-Fuel mileage- if the engine was loud enough to hear over Bose stereo, I definitely wouldn't push it as hard and burn all that 93 octane gas.
-No wagon- My mom has the Quest...if you like driving at all, you'll hate the Quest. Maxima wagon(especially SE 5-speed) would have been great.
-Needs a little more power- The supercharger from Stillen/Vortech costs around $5000 with installation, and is loud...not what I want in my Maxima. I'm thinking of upgrading the clutch and adding a small turbo to get it up to about 280HP and to add more to that incredible low-end torque without lag.
-Black leather is HOT- I wouldn't trade the black on black look for anything, especially since A/C does its job well. But it still burns at times.

This is my 2nd review, and hopefully the 200th review, haha...Anyway, it's fast, quiet, comfortable, and affordable...NOT CHEAP. It's the most reliable car my family has owned yet, and will be the best car we've owned until we upgrade to a GS400...anyway, overall, the Maxima SE is the definition of a sleeper. You could make Halloween masks with the faces of Mustang and Integra drivers after they get blown away by a fully stock Maxima. Everything about it is good and reliable, and it feels as comfortable blasting through turns as it is cruising around lady-searching.

Acura Legend L Auto- fast, but lacking personality.
Mercedes Benz 200D- what am I thinking? A 2 liter non-turbo diesel vs. the almighty Maxima V6? Well, with RWD and 4-speed manual, as well as lack of power steering there's something toy-like that makes this Benz a blast to drive. If I could ship it here from Ghana I definitely would use it as a second car.
Volvo S40- it sucks. End of story.
Honda Accord V6- Don't believe the hype. Everyone loves Hondas, but they're really not that great. Give the 97 Accord V6 a test drive, and like me you'll be wondering if there's really a V6 there.
2000 Maxima SE auto- It felt really big, and the styling's waaay over the top. If I could get the new interior I'd be really happy though...

Strength:

Speed. 0-60 in 6.6 Seconds. Room. Spacious Trunk and cutoutable x's in top of trunk for great little ports for audio systems. Best Rated V-6 Engine, Faster, Way Better than those found On Accords, Camry's Ect.

Weakness:

Interior Doors on the 95' GXE Model are made a lil' cheep, but just my opinion.

Underrated.

Alot of soccer moms and Middle age people drive these things around. Mine is black, and with a few mods you can't see why a gezzer should want one. They are the fastest car in their class, and with a few more engine mods you could make this baby suitable for some real speed. Like a sports car with more interior room. Waaaay better than previous maximas and the new 2000 design.

190 HP V6-I have not found a car that can beat this! AC, Cruise, Tilt, Sunroof, power everything. These cars come loaded.

Weakness:

Doesnt get the best gas milage-22 around town, 30 on the highway, power antenna is broken

These cars drive forever! MY sister has a Stanza and my mom has a Quest. You cannot be better off in any other car than a Nissan. I have only had this car a couple of months but I am very impressed with it. It has 195k miles and is still going strong. I strongly believe I can pass 300. The bottom line is that if you take good care of a Maxima you can drive it forever.

power- V6 is still strong after 117k, VERY quiet interior, Excellent styling/shaped vehicle, Leather stays in good condition. Looks grreat with custom rims!

Weakness:

No cupholders :(, paint seems to wear semi-fast.

WHAT A CAR!!! These cars are excellent, especially for how cheap you can get em. They run great past mid-100k miles as well. Lots of car for a little buck if you get a late 80'-early 90 model. My roommate has an 85' and it's still kickin azz as well. My next car will have a Nissan enine in it.

Strength:

Hmm,EVERYTHING! Leather, Bose CD Cassette AM/FM, Power windows, locks, mirrors, seats, antenae trunk release, mirror defrost. Tilt, cruise control, fog lights, moon roof, tinted windows and leather, leather, leather! Awesome pick up, looks great, very strong paint job. Great handling... I could go on all day.

Weakness:

Pretty pathetic cup holders, They're more like coasters.
Power windows apparently are prone to exhaustion.
Bose stereo is awesome, but if you want to up-grade it's REALLY going to cost you.

I have driven MANY cars that look nice, but once I get in a drive them... nothing compares to the luxury and speed. The only thing that I've seen that beats the luxury of my 'Maxine' is a Cadillac. But someday I'll get night vision for my car. I am 21, I drive fast but I don't mistreat my car and in turn, my car has been very reliable. It's 9-10 years old and the paint is just as good as new. The interior looks only about 1 month old. It is in really good condition. The leather seating is very durable, it still looks like new. The Bose stereo can handle highs and lows that plateau and distort any other speakers.
The whole car is just plain fast, it goes faster than I am comfortable going. I've had it up to 130 mph with no problem, but slowed down to be safe. The ride is just as smooth and quiet at 130 as it is at 30.
The only thing is, this car doesn't like to go slow. It's hard to maintain a really low speed. (of course that could be the driver too.) It makes a little bit of engine noise when it's cold, but it is a very strong engine.
One time an old tricked out camaro pulled up makin noise tryin to show he's fast, but my Maxima shut him up, with a much quieter engine.
I love my like my own mother.

I used to work a rental car company, and I also drive ALOT of different cars in car commercials. It's just about faster than anything, even the 2001 Maxima I test drove. The combonation of features is just about impossible find. I've beaten just about everything I've taken on from old camaros to brand new mustangs.

Model Reviewed: SE 5-speed

Strength:

This car's the perfect size outside, and roomy inside. The seats are good...not too soft, but nice after a long day at work. The interior's great too, everything's in a good place. The stereo is really good for a stock system, and almost drowns out the quiet engine during cruising. The outside looks good overall, except for the boring tail. The spoiler doubles as a cosmetic help and a parking guide.
What separates this car from other $20000 4-doors is that engine. It's great- from the mean exhaust note to the flat torque curve, this car doesn't play games when it comes to going. Anyone whose stomped the gas in first knows exactly what I'm talking about. 1st is way too short for heavy-footed drivers like me...most stoplight launches involve some tire chirping. And since the shifter is nice and slick from 2nd-5th gear, up/downshifts are easy, making passing and going extra easy. The ride is good too; it's pretty stiff, but not teeth clenching. And the steering has a good feel. The SE 5-speed is a driver's car.
A good color to get it in is black. 4-doors and its tendency to blend in with the crowd (especially at night) will keep you out of trouble. Leave the tickets to the Integra and Mustang dudes.

Weakness:

*Clutch needs replacement- it might be my lack of expertise, but it seems to me that the clutch engages without juddering around 1500rpm. Semi-hard 2-3 shifts (@~3500 rpm) gives a nice jolt.
*Almost too quiet- You'd think after 6 years the car would make some shakes or rattles...not a chance. Cutting off just gives some nice jolts and the traditional Nissan beeping. At 60-70 only noise is engine revving & slight tire noise.
*Promotes Fast Driving- The engine is so smooth and quiet, 50mph comes in no time. This combined with great steering feel and flawless breaks result in truly fun driving for a bargain.
*Leather sucks- As with almost all leather cars, stepping into my black on black Maxima is like opening an oven and jumping in. A/C takes care of that problem quickly.
*System needs more- Needs more watts, a cd changer, a subwoofer. Otherwise, the Bose system is probably the best stock system in a non-luxury brand.
*Doesn't look aggressive- Looks like an average Japanese car...at least to cops and narrow-minded stoplight racers.

Whenever I look around this site I always see horror stories about people's transmissions failing and services that never end. The Maxima is not one of those cars...it's probably the most reliable car I'll ever own. It's fast, and the full throttle exhaust note is great. But beyond that, it's easy to own, and is VERY open to modifications. Hopefully my next review will be about a supercharged Maxima on 17's...but I digress. Kids, if you want a car that's fast and easy to take care of, get a Maxima. But if you want a car that's popular and nice to look at, settle with an A4 1.8t or a 323i...and you're paying those mean monthly payments on top of maintenance...when I see you at the stoplight, I'll laugh.

'01 Maxima- Pretty fast, but borders on being too big. Looks funny. 97 Accord V6- Not fast at all. No stick available. No competition for the Max. '01 Camry 4-cyl- super smooth, quiet for a four-banger. But it's super bland all around. '87 Mercedes 200D- pretty good with 5-speed actually. Comforable, fast(for diesel), spacious. Sturdy too. Nowhere close to Maxima's refinement.

Strength:

Performance, durability, good mileage, doesn't get jealous glances (we own a business), rather comfy, gives some aural feedback.

Weakness:

Gives some aural feedback, the power windows break too often, the stock exhaust tip looked like garbage, windows take to long to open and close, trunk hinges go crunchy, crunchy.

This, in my opinion, is a truly excellent car. We need a car that doesn't catch everyone's eyes, because then people get hateful that colored people own a nice car. This car is great simply for the reason that it looks nice, but doesn't stand out too much. It will last forever, the essentials of the car are rock-solid, but there are some minor problems like too many rattles, wind noise, and other things aren't too important. I wish the trunk was bigger, and the rear seat folded. The velour is very, very hard to keep clean. If someone knows how to clean, please, please, please email me: Neelesh9@msn.com , I am desperate to clean the seats. It is far more comfortable than my sister's Accord, we drive each others' cars often, she always wants to drive the Maxima, and even admitted that she likes it more than her car, despite its age. If Nissan could only get a few electronics to be more reliable, I would really love this car. I'll keep this until it dies, it only has 67,000 miles, and it truly is better than some of the newer cars out there, and they keep it simple. My parents have an LS400, and it has too many gadgets, which are expensive to replace, $700 for another Nakamichi?! Just because the lights on the unit went out.
