I'M BUYING THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION VERSION ... BUT I NOTICED SOME REOCCURING POINTS ABOUT AUTO TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS (SLIPPAGE BETWEEN 1st & 2nd).

Check out the Nissan Technical Service Bulletin (TSB). Nissan acknowledges the problem but will only fix it if you bring it up. Weird, huh?

N e ways ...

Nissan has released TSB # NTB00-039 dated May 1, 2000 concerning the auto trans slipping from first to second gear. It calls for the replacement of the automatic transmission control unit part #31036-3Y101. This service bulletin applies to all 2000 Nissan Maximas (A33) with the automatic transmission.

Call your local Nissan dealership with this information and they should be able to assist you with the free fix.

Here's the link to the scanned copy of the TSB (u may have 2 cut & paste it)

Model Reviewed: SE w/auto tranny

Strength:

Styling, acceleration, handling, comfort/interior room.

Weakness:

Too much lag in shifting from 1st to 2nd gear -- I feel I need to play with the throttle to get a quicker shift if I'm accelerating hard. This was also mentioned by one of the automotive magazines when they did an early review of a non-production model. I feel Nissan should offer an adjustment for this...surely it is possible.

I got the 2000 Max SE, w/auto tranny, leather package, SE comfort & convenience package, moon roof, Bose 200w stereo (reeeeallll nice). It was one of the first ones on the street in Charlotte, so I didn't expect to get the best deal possible. Still, they did move down some on the price. It was originally about $28,400, but I paid around $26,500. I felt I maybe could've gone lower if I known what the invoice price was, but I bought too early, and the invoice data was not yet available. Still, I feel it was a great value, and still enjoy it thorougly, and would purchase another if something happened to this one! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

87 Honda Accord. My wife and I drove the '87 Accord up until 1998, and it was a fine car. But due to the age, I don't think it can compare favorably with a 2000 model. I also looked at the Toyota Solara SE (i.e. Camry), and was very interested until I actually drove the Max. I was convinced, nuff said.

Strength:

Stylish, different, PERFORMANCE

Weakness:

Find it hard to sleep with it.

Got it for $25,000 No regrets.
Just go drive one. It is in a whole different league than anything in its price range.
Nissan has a winner here in my book.
I think they have it right in the commercials as well, this car is not for everyone. If you are not ready to have the coolest sedan on the block, you might want to stay away.

Strength:

Great acceleration, roomy interior, even in the back with 5 adults, great quality BOSE 200 watt speakers, smooth engine and ample room for after-market tuners. Good luxury options, rich feel of brand new leather, feels like a more expensive car inside the passenger seat. Impressive Toyo tires with 16 inch alloy rims.

Weakness:

Automatic climate controls are not quite automatic, it either gets too cold or too hot and I usually use the manual mode anyway. Too much body roll, for those of you who want a more sporty feel, I'd recommend strut bars or stiffer springs. The leather seats are too sedan like, and doesn't keep you in place when turning sharp turns.

About 24,000 fully loaded, with all the features that comes in a luxury car. Engine makes the car fun to drive, I would definitely recommend this car to anyone who wants a comfortable ride with good performance, riding in style.

Smoothest V6 engine around, roomy back seat. Effortless acceletation.

Weakness:

-May not be sporty enough for some.
-Too much body roll, due to the soft shocks.

All around good car- Nissan reliability, strong and smooth engine, but if you are looking for a bonafide sports car, look elsewhere.

Strength:

Fit and finish appeared to be nice. Smooth shifting automatic.

Weakness:

Not very sporty. Poor handling and feels slow. Far to much body roll. Non-enclosed subwoofer. Sits to high off the ground.

I like the car and I'm sure it's reliable. However, after owning it for a few months I just don't think it's my cup of tea. It's just not sporty feeling, I returned mine to the dealership and paid him to take it back. The car really had nothing wrong with it, it was a personal taste problem.

Strength:

Most powerful engine in its class, its styling is unique, but tasteful. Awesome sound system,(the bose is second to none), Plenty of room.

Weakness:

Paint has a tendency to chip at the mere thought of a grocery cart, tires seem to get eaten a tad faster than normal.

Paid around 13k for a 96 5spd se w/ cloth interior and 65k 1 year ago. What's amazing to me is that the car is 4 years old and pushing 90k, yet still looks and drives brand new. The 5spd is a pure joy. Without a doubt, the best sports sedan on the road, especially for the money.

Strength:

reliability, power, comfort

Weakness:

small things breaking

I've had this Maxima for about 5 years, and it has served me extremely well. There has always been enough power in reserve to do anything except for racing. The engine packs 160hp, and is just under 3100 pounds, making it very quick for a family sedan. The car drives wonderfully!

Over 136,000 miles, i've changed the tires, brakes, and 3 power window tracks, and other little things. The car gets excellent mileage, even on 87 octane. I would consistently get 350+ miles with mostly highway.

I got my first tune up at 120,000 miles, and it's almost as good as new. The transmission is slipping a bit, but only if i really punch on the gas. But this is predictable for a car with as many miles on it as mine.

This car would be a wonderful car for absolutely anyone. It is a great value, and is one of the most reliable I have driven.
