Strength:
Radio sounds great even when at full blast, does not lose power going up very large hills or mountains.
Weakness:
I don't think the latch on the sunglasses compartment is going to last very long. Also, there is a small compartment to the left of the steering wheel that falls out easily if you don't open very gently. I live in an area with VERY large hills. This little car has no problems getting up these hills without losing momentum. The radio is great, too for a factory system. I blast the radio as loud as it will go with a CD in and the sound never even remotely distorts. |

Great fuel economy! Great styling! Powerful little Engine. Good price/quality
Weakness:
Crappy tires Reports from others of quality weaknes however I think its great. Price paid is in Canadian Dollars I have had this car for 3 years now. Some people complain of quality concerns. Except for a very few minor problems, this car has been great. I had to replace the front brakes (makes sense as I drive 90% city) and the tires that came with the car were not all that great. I also had to get the front tables repalced under warranty. However if anybody has had the misfortune to drive on Montreal roads, this makes sense. Great winter car, holds its ground and always starts even in -30C. Similar Products Used: Ford Tempo (Fix or repair daily) |

Strength:
Bang for the buck. Torque is much better than rivals. You don't see a hundred per day like the Civic.
Weakness:
Interior is kinda plain, but functional. Paint could be better. This is a great car for the money. The SE model features the late, great SR20DE engine which has 145hp and a healthy amount of torque which is totally absent on some other cars, most notably the Civic. The SR motor has been replaced on the top of the line model, the SE-R with the 2.5 liter QR25DE which is shared with the Altima. Personally, I feel the old motor is the better and more reliable motor but the QR has more power. The other motor currently available is the 1.8 liter QG18DE which, although not terribly powerful at 126hp is a very efficient and reliable engine. My car has 82,000 miles on it and has not had one major problem so far! After five years of this body style it is beginning to look old, but for some who don't like flash this car looks good. The 2004 freshening of the front end looks awful to me though. We call it the "bucktooth". The main strength of the sentra is the value. You can get one for much less than a comparably equipped Civic or Corolla and have better performance as a bonus. Durable, dependable in most cases, good car for a first timer.
Weakness:
when things break, its usually the expensive things. make sure to save up or make friends with a mechanic. don't buy a 96. I hear 2000 and up are great cars. I had gotten this car as a Grad present back in 1997 and I too have a love/hate relationship with my Sentra. Since I have had it I've already had to replace the alternator twice, the brakes twice, my transmission, and the list of things I haven't had the money to fix is growing. I am very easy on this car, regualar oil changes and such. 3 out of the 4 lights on my dash are permanently on (emission, brake and battery, the latter 2 blink simultaneously). It's leaking a quart of oil a week, the radiator hoses are shrinking and I need to get 3 parts to my emissons replaced. On a good note through all this, the car hasn't left me stranded yet (knock on wood) and Just a couple nights ago some drunkard backed up into my front end twice on the highway (guess he couldn't drive stick) and theres only little damage to my bumper (scrapes and it's a little loose). I now have 94k miles on it and am saving so I can trade it in for (hopefully) a tacoma. the thousands of dollars it will cost me to fix it isn't worth the value of the car. I know a few people that have owned Sentras and the ones that have had lots of problems also had the 1996 one, so maybe it was just a bad year. Similar Products Used: 1983 sentra- had less problems with that car and it was 13 years old when I owned it and the previous owners did not treat the car well. |

POWERFUL 145HP 4 CYLINDER ENGINE THAT USES REGULAR GAS AND GETS GOOD GAS MILEAGE (AS LONG AS YOU'RE NOT FIRST IN LINE AT A RED LIGHT!) SMOOTH RIDING EVEN WITH THE STIFFER SUSPENSION. HUGE TRUNK, PLENTY OF LEG AND HEAD ROOM IN THE FRONT,(I'M 6'2" 245) AND VERY COMFY.THE LEATHER STEERING WHEEL IS REALLY NICE. THE STEREO IS AWESOME BUT I'LL PROBABLY REPLACE THE 4 INCH REAR SPEAKERS WITH SOMETHING LARGER AND MORE POWERFUL.
Weakness:
JUST A FEW MINOR GLITCHES...CUP HOLDERS IN HARD TO REACH LOCATION, ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING. THE FOG LIGHTS ONLY WORK WITH THE HEADLIGHTS. ON MY 2003 ALTIMA, YOU CAN USE THE FOG LIGHTS WITH THE PARKING LIGHTS. A HEADS UP INDICATOR ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TO SHOW YOUR POSITION FOR THE TRANSMISSION WOULD BE NICE(INSTEAD OF LOOKING DOWN TO THE SHIFTER). THE VERY DARK SEATS, AND THE BLACK DASH WILL PROBABLY CAUSE THE AC TO WORK OVERTIME ON A HOT SUNNY DAY. WILL PROBABLY GET AFTERMARKET TINT ON WINDOWS TO HELP ELIMINATE SOME OF THAT PROBLEM. SO FAR THE PAINT IS IN GREAT SHAPE. HOWEVER I'VE LEARNED OVER THE YEARS AND WITH SEVERAL CARS THAT REGULAR CARE INCLUDING BI-MONTHLY WAX APPLICATION I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN MARCH 2004. IT HAD 36000 MILES ON IT. JADE GREEN COLOR HAS ALLOWED ME TO CALL IT THE LITTLE MEAN GREEN MACHINE! EVEN WITH AUTO, THIS CAR HAS A LOT OF GET UP AND GO. I WANTED A STICK SHIFT, BUT AT AGE 55, MY WIFE CONVINCED ME TO GO AUTOMATIC SO I WOULD STAY OUT OF TROUBLE WITH THE OTHER RICE BURNERS IN THIS AREA! 2 OF THE FIRESTONE GTA 195X55R16 TIRE ARE 80% SHOT WHILE THE OTHER 2 ARE STILL IN GOOD SHAPE. TIRE ROTATION APPARENTLY WAS NOT A PRIORITY WITH PREVIOUS OWNER. OVERALL THE CAR IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE, RIDES WELL, AC IS AWESOME AND GAS MILEAGE OVERALL IS 26MPG. I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE ADDED FEATURES OF THE SE SPORT VERSION PACKAGE. WHAT A DIFFERENCE IT MAKES WITH FEATURE LIKE 4 WHEEL DISC BRAKES, DUAL POWER SIDE MIRRORS KEYLESS ENTRY, ETC. MY SON SAYS I SHOULD DEFINITELY CONSIDER USING SYNTHETIC OIL, AND GO WITH 205X55R16 TIRES Similar Products Used: 1994 SENTRA XE..OWNED FOR 7 YEARS. GREAT CAR BOUGHT IT WITH 43000 SOLD IT IN FEB. WITH 96000 NEVER HAD ANY MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH IT..BECAUSE OF ITS TRACK RECORD, IS WHY I CHOSE ANOTHER SENTRA. I FEEL A LITTLE SAFER NOW ALSO, WITH SAFETY FEATURES ON THE SE, THAT THE XE DIDN'T HAVE. |

She NEVER left me stranded. Read the litany of remarks above. Let me start by saying that I do have a love/hate relationship with my Sentra, being that she (yes, she) was my first car. I drove the car through high school, college, and a daily 80 mile commute during the summer, and she would still be by my side until the very end if I wasn't trading her in tomorrow. She's the nicely equipped model, the GXE with power windows, locks, cruise control and a technologically inept tape deck. I have clearly had her for a long time, and she's an old family friend. When I first got the Sentra it never gave me any problems, I mean NEVER. It's a car that never left me stranded, but messed with my mental state in some terribly cruel ways. So now I will get into the litany of the problems (the majority occuring within the last few years, her golden years as I like to call them) I have had with my precious Sentra (and yes she is still a she). The air conditoner, while never the best, decided it didn't want to participate in the daily activities of driving anymore about a year ago, and while she occassionally graces us with "lukewarm" air, she usually keeps to herself and if you mess with her controls too much, she won't even hiss at you, she will just turn away and won't budge a muscle, meaning no air for you (the mechanic claims something is wrong with the switch...) Another mind game she plays is one called "red light, brake light", I call it that because the red brake light has remained on inside of my car for about a year now, and no the parking brake is not up. Ready for more games? I like to call the next one "how fast am I going?" I call it that because of a little game the speedometer liked to play with me, it was the cutest thing, I would be speeding down the highway, figuring I am doing about 75 and I look down to see what the speedometer thinks I am doing only to discover he is asleep. Yes, my speedometer started off taking cat naps during trips, and ended up a catatonic vegetable, he died and I had to get a new one. Some other things that have happened are simple things really, the tape deck ate my tape and would not budge, and finally he spit it out about 10 months later. Also my brakes sometimes sound like glass shattering and the mechanics all swear nothing is wrong with them. Beyond these special events that have happened with my Sentra there are many positives, she doesn't have to be serviced often beyond regular maintenance (her illnesses are not mechanical ones, just ones that are intended to aggravate you), she's a good looker (though outdated), she's got a nice resale value, gas mileage is SUPERB, she zips around town nicely, passing people on a whim, and as I stated before and will state forever, "She never left me stranded!" The Sentra is a perfect car for a teenager, or a young person starting out. It is highly reliable and pretty much worry free, but an interesting discussion topic. My mother has the new one and I am terribly jealous because it is light years away from mine as far as looks, but alas I am selling out to the masses and will be trading my Sentra in on a 2004 Civic Coupe in a matter of hours. However, I will shed a bucket of tears when I leave her there, because really, she has served me well (a she until the very end). Similar Products Used: Nissan 240 SX |

Weakness:
Tires, poor traction in wet weather. Wear quickly. Paint stratches easily. Cheap windshield wipers. 2000 Nissan Sentra SE with 2.0 engine. Decent performance even with an automatic. Good gas milage for a compact car. Well equiped, and good interior room for its class. Most comfortable driving position of the cars in its class that I test drove (Toyota Corolla, Chevy Prism, Honda Civic, Saturn SL). Only a few minor hassles. Exterior paint stratches very easily. Windshield wipers that came with car were terrible, had to be replaced after a few months. Tires have very poor traction in wet weather. some minor sqeaks and rattles have started to show up. Overall a good car, worth the price, even with the minor problems. Would recommend as a new or used car. |
