Model Reviewed: Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera

Strength:

It had a like week long of great gas mileage.

Weakness:

UMMMMMMMM!!!!!! Let's say everything.

Well, in six words I could tell you how bad my car is,what a cheap peice of crap. I have had my ciera for under a year by like two months and it has made me so mad that I almost decided to walk to work and that's 12 miles away. I bought the car and a month later the alternator and battery went out. My shocks, struts and steering had to be fixed and my brakes were going out on me. My grandma should own this car because it fits her more than me. I am $5,000.00 in the hole because of the repairs and paying it off. If anyone could tell me how to get rid of it for like 4,000.00 please e-mail me at Djc8873@AOL.Com. Thanx.

Model Reviewed: Cutlass with 3.1 V6

Strength:

-Excellent reliability. It has 150,600 miles now and hasn't given me a problem since 132,500 miles, which was very minor.
-Gas mileage is great. I have been averaging 26 miles per gallon using a quality regular unleaded gasoline and driving reasonably.
-Looks, Size, Room, and almost everything else.

Weakness:

-Plastics around the instrument panel are a bit cheap.
-The gap between the trunk and bumper that is a design flaw.

This is a follow-up to a review written a few months ago. I have put about 18K on it since my last review. Very reliable car. I have never seen mileage out of a mid-size V6 like I am getting. A friend of mine has a 99 Camry V6 and gets around 18-20 mpg and drives within the speed limit. The bad thing about my Cutlass...the plastics used inside could have been of a better quality, but they're not Hyundai-cheap. The car is fairly powerful for a 3.1 V6 with only 160hp. It can easily keep up with the big boys if it needs to. I have been looking at the new Aleros. They seem to be put together well. I am going to put around 20-30K more on the Cutlass until I get a new Olds. The demise of Olds isn't going to scare me off. A 1997+ Cutlass or an Alero sounds good compared to a Camry or equally boring car with no personality.

Model Reviewed: Cutlass Supreme Brougham

Strength:

The pulling power (and beautiful howling sound) of that carbureted 305 V-8 ALWAYS amazes me. All the electric devices still work well (!!!). One particularly cold winter day, it was about -40 C (-40 F)... and I was worried it wouldn't start after sitting there all day WITHOUT a block heater. IT STARTED IT ONE TRY (though I had to pump the gas a little)! Passengers LOVE the legroom in this car! My friend says it feels like a lazy boy. It's nice to have tangible proof that they DON'T build them like this anymore.

The insurance payments are laughable! It costs less to insure than the registration!

Weakness:

Kind of rattles a bit, definitely not as tight as when the car was new (perhaps I'm demanding too much from a 20-year-old car?). Sometimes challenging to drive in winter, even with 4 good snow tires.

Cornering leaves a lot to be desired, lots of body roll, but that was somewhat common back when this car was built. LOL, I would love to throw a NASCAR suspension on this thing... though on Montreal's World-War-2-like roads, I'm not so sure about that!

No major repairs so far: tranny, engine block, all original. Had to have the water pump, radiator, battery, brakes (twice), shocks, ball joints, electronic module, and gas tank replaced in 9 years. Not bad, eh?

Yeah, OK, it's a gas guzzler, I must admit. Is there a V-8 that isn't? With power comes responsibility, LOL! Kidding...

Well... that fact that I'm still enjoying driving a 20-year-old car should almost be a self-explanatory review in itself, LOL! "Reliable Tank" is a good place to start in describing this car.

I've been driving this car for 9 years, 140 000 km.

My first and only car. I'm currently shopping for a new car (I'm thinking Japanese), fully secure in the knowledge that whatever I buy next will not last as long this one. It's going to break my heart when I sell the "Olds"...
