Strength:

Looks, leather, horsepower, smooth ride, chrome wheels.

Weakness:

Had to replace the power regulator on the left rear window, driver's door switch panel keeps popping out of place, brakes (which are important i think!), lack of aftermarket parts and accessories.

I was originally looking for a Honda but I would have only been able to afford a bare-bones Civic. I test drove a Focus, Alero, and a couple Saturns but kept coming back to this Intrigue. It seemed like such a nice car for the price compared to the others. I love the color (black), the chrome wheels, V6, 215 horsepower, leather interior, power seat. The only thing I noticed wrong with it was the clunky feeling in the steering, but a lot of others reported the same thing. I drive it a lot on road trips and for business so it gets a lot of wear. I've noticed the brake problem. I get squeeling when I apply the brakes all the time, no matter how often I replace the pads. It sometimes shifts hard when accelerating. I still like my car a lot and plan on keeping it for a long time. I get compliments from strangers when it's detailed. Oh yeah, one weird thing: I was upgrading the front door speakers and the driver's door's tweeter wasn't even wired to anything and had a delco woofer. The passenger side was hooked up correctly with bose speakers. Weird.

Power, room, gas milage

long haul comfort and cubby blocking

A great car. It has plenty of power. I drive between Scranton PA and Pittburgh PA quite often and this car gets about 28-30 mpg, which is great of a car of this size/power. It handles nimbly and has loads of room. i have not had any of the reliability problems that others have experienced. my only complaint concerns lumbar support for long hauls and how the transmission shifter blocks access to a storage cubby in the park position

Strength:

Low end torque, handleing

Weakness:

Overall poor quality product.

The Car is fun to drive and handles like a dream but the reliability has been terrible. I wish I would Have checked out this website before I made my purchase. Problems that I thought may be unique to my vehicle seem to be common among too many users of this site. I purchased this "certified" preowned vehicle May 5, 2003. The car has onle 24,000 miles on it. So far I have experienced electrical problems, mechanical problems, brake problems, and fit and finish problems on both the interior and exterior of the vehicle. The following is a more detailed list of the problems: 1. Rotors keep warping, took the car in for serviceing and the problem has resurfaced. 2.Headlights flicker. Car has new alternator but it has not solved the problem. 3. Right rear power window went out and the drivers side front is making a funny noise 4. Dash board seems to be seperating from the ac outlets 5. The passenger side front door seems to stick. 6.Radio buttons become abnormally hot. 7. THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT LAST WEEK AT 24000 MILES!!! If I wouldn't have been covered under factory warranty I would have been in trouble. I will never, ever, ever, ever, purchase another GM vehicle. GM should feel ashamed of themselves to produce such poor quality cars... It's time for an Accord

Tom from Indianapolis, sounds like you have been driving my car. It's very stylish, even the young kids like it. But I've had trouble with the struts, brakes, ABS, windows, black stuff sticking to the windows, oil leaks 4x (supposedly a gasket), air conditioner, brake/tail lights retaining moisture 3x, etc. I would never buy another Oldsmobile.

ATTENTION....BUYERS BEWARE...this car is the worse choice I have ever made. I have had nothing but problems with it since the day I have bought it. You name it, it has been replaced or needs to be currently ( it seems at least). I really mean this. I finally got it all paid off and I can get another car. I kept on replacing everything because I thought that I would not have anymore problems. I now have 87,000 (mostly highway) miles on my car. I have had...window switches replaced, tape deck still does not work after already being replaced, window seal sticks to window when rolling it down, cup holders break easliy (do not hardly ever use them), struts replaced, brakes need to be replaced every 20k miles, alternator replaced, fan belts twice, and I know their has been more...I just cannot think of all of them right now. Speaking of right now...these are my current problems...left rear brake senor is out, when braking the brake quit braking and car rolls freely and catches again before car stops (I have to stop way in advance so I do not rear end people), the intake has a leak which is causing a lot of other problem that I did not understand, and something else...I do not care because I am trading this car in. I would feel horrible selling it to someone else. I do take very good care of my car. All of my friends think I am too clean and say my car is always nice. I love my cars and am a car slut. I love them and have never done anything to abuse this car. Yet it treats me like this. I WILL NEVER BUY AND OLDSMOBILE EVER AGAIN. Perhaps this is why I have been told that they are going out of business.

Strength:

Great handling in slick or wet weather. I enjoy the smooth ride on the highway. the leather interior is easy to maintain.

Weakness:

One word... Electrical. This car has had a lot of electrical problems. Please be aware of a recall on the sending unit for the thermostat. My accessories shorted out within a year of owning the car. (couldn't use the radio, windows, etc. for a week until they found the short and fixed it. None of the interior lights seem to last vary long before you have to have them replaced. Car is a gas guzzler.

Nice looking car, great handling, I hate the oil light that comes on to remind you to change the oil. It's a pain to turn off. The stereo speakers could be better and more well placed.

Strength:

Strong, robust acceleration. Comfortable ride. Generally reliable.

Weakness:

Fuel economy is poor - we generally get 18-19 mpg in typical driving and 26-27 mpg on the highway.

We bought this car for my wife five years ago. It was a far better car than it's sister car Pontiac Grand Prix which we also test drove. While it has had it's share of problems, it has been a good, reliable car. The brakes began pulsing at around 30000 miles and required replacement. Two power window motors failed and were replaced under warranty. The battery started leaking and was replaced under warranty. The only major repair needing done involved the cooling system. The "low coolant" light came on on a long trip in December, 2001. After coolant was replaced, it was fine until December, 2002 when it came on again. I then noticed coolant was leaking so I took it into the shop and they had to replace the upper radiator intake at a cost of $800!!! This part is made of a hard plastic and since it is atop a hot engine, it will warp over time. I was told it would likely need to be replaced again in about 40000 miles. This affects many different GM models with the 3.8L engine - it doesn't affect Intrigues after 1998 since they switched to the 3.5L engine in 1999. I've also noticed a clunking sound in the front end (appears to be related to the steering system), but have yet to do anything about it. The clunking has been around practically since the car was new.

Strength:

Overall feeling of authority on the road - power, lights, handling, and comfort. It's a ton of car for the money.

Weakness:

Very limited stowage for maps and junk inside. Electrical system could be suspect.

Have rented several Intrigues and liked the way the drove, especially the 3.5 litre version. A small Chev dealer sold me a year old repo they had obtained through an auction. Seems good as new and after 10,000 miles of driving (with 25,000 total) there have been only a few electrical problems. Fog light bulbs, steering sensor, one power window that did not work. This appears to be the only weak link so far. Otherwise the car is totally satisfying and amazingly economical (28 mpg) if you know how to drive it.

Strength:

features for the $, handling, comfort. Seating comfort is top notch. Controls are mostly intuitive, though the climate control takes some getting used to. Overall handling is great, it's a very easy to drive. Responsiveness of steering and brakes far exceeds Ford models I've driven, and is as good as or better than most else. Not quite the power of the Fords or the Impals, but much more refined handling and interior. 5/60 warranty. so far the car has been great, but I felt much better buying GM with the 5/60 rather than their standard 3/36

Weakness:

Back seats are fine for kids but would be tight for teens or adults. brake pedal seems to be set an inch or so higher than optimal and most other cars'. front seats have two cup holders, but one is in front of gear shift and isn't usable when the car is in "Drive"

My vote for most car for the buck. The thing has leather interior, bose stereo, moonroof, traction control, dual climate control, power everything, has good roominess, very comfortable seating (you need to go up a price range or three to match). It handles very nicely and sure footedly, has good acceleration and braking, and is about as fun to drive as a sedan can be. I'm at 6K miles and so far no problems whatsoever with GM's infamous build quality. Sticker was marked $27,500, dealer dropped to $23, GM card dropped it to $20...BARGAIN!!

Strength:

Interior and exterior styling, Bose audio, lots of great standard features provide v. good value for your dollar (precision control system, traction control, ABS, chrome wheels, leather, superb lighting system (blue back lit dash & controls, other attractive interior lighting, very bright headlights and brights without resorting to super expensive gas discharge). 2-tone pewter interior with silver exterior looks great;

Weakness:

Very slippery front seats lack support in cornering. Awful low to low-middle range torque - the 3800 engine is MUCH better suited even without turbo and less horsepower. Car feels heavy. Steering lacks roadfeel, even though steering effort is about right; also steering lacks enough "snap-back" when exiting turns. With mud guards installed, these will scrape bottom on some turns esp. with bumps. Suspension should be somehat stiffer, or "better". Mileage is at low end of EPA range - competitive imports generally at high end or exceed EPA spec. Some fit & finish not as good as should be for a car of this price. Rear spoiler should be optional or have delete option when purchased - when will GM stop putting these pretentious things on cars? Shifter should have modern visible chrome stick not dated floppy leather wrap. Only one decent front cup holder, need two.

Best overall looks, inside and out, of 3 GM sister cars(Intrigue, Regal, Grand Prix). Nice car, but shortchanged in some significant ways.
