plymouth laser rs non turbo
Strength:
fast, good control, fun to drive, more performance parts are now available
Weakness:
expensive replacement parts This is a really tight car. I easily spanks Honda civics and Accords even though it is a non turbo. It has really good control and it is fast. I recently swapped a 2.0 in place of the 1.8 to give some more hp. i really like this car and it is only my first one. ive beaten all my friends' cars because they all drive hondas. the only thing i have had to replace was the clutch. everything else has been fine, even the timing belt!!! i also put new head light motors to pop them up because i blew my other ones out. its a pretty sweet ride. when i first bought it, there werent alot of performance parts on the market for it. now theres everything from full body kits, to turbo upgrades. just look in super street magazine or go to www.dsmtuners.com. i only have an intake and a 3 inch down pipe on mine though. its a pretty sweet ride if ur looking for something that will leave civics at the red light. !!PEACE!! Strength:
The car has real good power and is a lot of fun to drive espicially to pick up chicks (works real good Ive got the hottest girlfriend to prove it)
Weakness:
the price for parts somewhat and the price of premium when I bought the car it had a major oil leak which turned out to be a cracked valve cover. The car has 17" roh 5 stars, apexi pipe and hks turbo timer, I also made the waste gate adjustable and I am know running about 15-16 pounds boost. One thing I really enjoy doing is when i pull up to a another car at the lights and smoke just about any car out there thats really cool for having a car like this when im 19. Good handling, looks nice
Weakness:
The car sucks The car is great when it is not broken down, but it breaks down at least once a month. I have put in 3 alternators, my c/v joint just went, so i had to put in a new axle, i needed new pads and rotors, the computer puts the car in safe mode even when the battery goes, and my timing belt just went. It is just a never ending pit of repairs. I would be better off just throwing my money in the river. Anyone got some other car they will trade me for this one? Similar Products Used: None |

Plymouth Laser 1.8
Strength:
It's really quick and you can find reasonable body parts. Also, I like that I can drop a grand on it and make it one of the nicest looking performance cars around.
Weakness:
I have had some trouble keeping tires on it. Within a year I replaced all the struts, wheel bearings, tires, timing belt, and now I'm having trouble with it overheating. I bought a new radiator and a new head gasket. The car has less than a 100 thou' on it too. They're extremely quick cars but have consistency problems. I think you'd expect that when you're buying it though. I mean come on...It's not like you're driving 60mph in them either. I'm proud to say when I first bought this car I smoke my fathers 99 SHO Taurus. Similar Products Used: Dodge Neon |

Strength:
Sporty looking, very reliable.
Weakness:
Definately not a family car, very small backseat. Expensive replacement parts. I have had this car almost 6 years. When I bought it had 100,000 miles on it. I have put on another 100,000 miles since I bought it, commuting to school. This car has been amazing! When I tell people it's a '91 with 200,000 miles they can't believe it, It still looks and runs great. I haven't had many problems with it, had to replace the timing belt and some other minor things. I wish they still made these because I'ld buy another! Similar Products Used: 1984 Accord, 1990 Jetta |

2.0L Auto Laser RS
Strength:
acceleration is good. i also like the looks a lot. a body kit would look great on it, but the factory bumper isn't bad. engine has some room to play around in. trunk was nice size to put a small system in. lots of leg room in the front when the seats are pushed back. nice reponse. good handling. for a 92, it still has a futuristic look.
Weakness:
not much backseat room. but that's ok. less inclination for people to ride with me. haha. the idle is a little off too. sunroof leaks a little every now and then. and it is also hard to find aftermarket performance parts for it. but it is getting easier now with ebay. and now that the fast and the furious came out, everyone is buying stuff for them so more manufacturers are starting make things for older sports cars. factory stereo isn't that great. i suggest replacing it. I just bought it a few months ago and i must say that i love it. my car is metallic blue with black trim around the windows and mirrors. it has 125000 miles on it and still runs great. i wanted to buy a sport comp to fix up and mess around with. and i have to say that i think i found one of the best cars for that. it's a car that i haven't seen too many people with around where i live and i like that. it's got an agressive look and some nice features. i got the auto version because that is all the dealer had, but the car still rips. select the power option and punch it, and the car flies. this is my project car. i've put a bomz motorsports wing on it, american racing rims, APC indiglo pedals and fog lights, and a pacesetter header and exhasut. the muffler is going to be replaced with an APC soon. i just ordered it yesterday. it's a great car for people who want a sport comp, but want something a little different that not many people have. there are a lot of civics and 2G eclipses, but this car isn't seen much around where i am. take off from 1,000 rpms to 3,000rpms is tremendous with modifications. Engine tuned right can create 500+ horse easy.
Weakness:
transmission is very weak, needs rid of electric choke belts lol. back seat is extra weight. i've owned this car for a short period of time and have amassed a grateful amount of money into it. The TSI is perfect for racing, it's a must to own. I also have a 3000gt vr4 and the tsi kicks it's ass. |

Plymouth Laser RS Turbo
Strength:
The engine is strong, wrenching the tires loose in the first 2 gears and then churps them into 3rd. The car can easily tke corners at twice the psted speed.
Weakness:
Some parts are hard to find. Often they are dealer only. This is a great car as long as you take care of it. I love the car. It smokes those 5.0''s all day. I like to call them 5.slows. I had the timming belt go out on me bending all 16 valves and cost me about $500 in parts. Lucky for me I did all the work myself or it would have been really expensive. The car sinks the speedometer in no time flat. 0-145 in 38 seconds. If you like speed really cheap this is the car for you. Plus it is the cheapest thing in the world to modify and smoke all of those hopped up honda''s outh there. Similar Products Used: 1966 corvette, 1968 corvette, 1999 cougar |

Laser RS (N/T)
Strength:
The DSM''s (Talons/Laser/Eclipses) had an aggressive stance giving good acceleration off the the line and railcar grip around turns. The car has a decent engine power for a 4 cyl.
Weakness:
90 & 91 Lasers came only in FWD form, unlike its brothers the Talon TSi and Eclipse GS-X Car was free. Kinda tore up. But it runs, looks, and sounds awesome. Added a muffler to give it that low-bass performance tone. After researching, I found an onslaught of after-market perfomace. While I am stationed in germany I will save up and order parts. The engine design I have worked out will convert the engine to turbo and put 550hp to the wheels, plans are also to do a AWD drivetrain swap from a Talon TSI or Eclipse GS-X. All in all a damn good car for free. To bad my brother didn''t see what he had. |
