Strength:

good pick up

Weakness:

piece of junk, poorly made. Mfg defects should be repaired or at least the customer notified of BIG problem with head gasket and leaking tail lights. I would not have purchased it had I known.

Got the car with 27,000 miles on it. Mfg in oct 98, purchased Oct 99. Had 3-4 inches water constantly in back seat floor, leaking tail lights..347.00 to fix! Engine started leaking oil at 86000. Head gasket oil leak (nothing new in the Neons I now learn, Chrysler has known about this MFG Defect since mid 90's their TSB came out 10/98) $814.00 total. this is not the only car I have owned but the most costly by far.My sisters neon, 98, head gasket went last week 975.00, transm. replaced at 44000! A real jewel, I'll not buy another chrysler/dodge product. This is my first and last! Neither dealer or chysler would assist with head gasket repair bill at my location however I know they have assisted others with the bill-at least 50-50

Strength:

Gas sipping action. Responsive steering. Nice package for way less than competitors. "Cute" styling.

Weakness:

Needs more HP! Theres tons of aftermarkets parts for this puppy, so save some extra $$ if you want it quick.

I must be the rare problem-free neon owner. This car was purchased merely for value, but i got so much for it. My Style package included painted door handles, nice "neon" rims, sunroof, foglights, cruise control. I love the go-kart steering feeling, it was always precise. The car was pretty darn cute too. My only [no joke] problem with this car was the head gasket blowing early, but since it was still under warranty, it was fixed for free. I sold it with 70k miles on it, to make way for my new srt-4. I miss this car.

Strength:

Great gas mileage. I haven't had anything happen that made me disappointed. There were little things like the weather stripping but that was an inconvience and I have never seen anyone drive off with a car not to have some sort of problem shortly after- but that's what a warranty is for!

Weakness:

They do not hold up well in accidents, contrary to the salesman's pitch. A slight knock on the side can destroy the hood, lights, front bumper and quarter panel while leaving a 4 inch scrape on the other person's car. They "crinkle".

I bought my Neon 10-97 with 5 miles on it and I still have it at 89,000 miles. The weather seals had to be replaced the first week and I had to replace the battery last year. After 2 years the head gasket went (they replaced it free of charge-it's a common problem). Other than that, absolutely no problems and I'd get another one in a second if I wanted another small car that's great on gas.

Strength:

Fun to drive, fairly fast. Good first car if intended to only keep for a couple years. Very very good gas mileage.

Weakness:

It's a piece!

When I first saw my neon back in 2000, I thought it was the cutest thing in the world. It had 64000 miles on it and now has 106000. Little did I know I was going to have to fix the brakes three times. Shortly after my parents bought me this car the A/C went out. It's not fun not having an A/C in 100 degree weather in Texas. The paint starting chipping of so now my car really isn't as cute as it used to be. My car also leaks oil and over heated one day because of it. There was something wrong with the belt. I replaced that and something else and it cost me $2000. My A/C worked for a while but now when I use it, it sounds like a whale and my car shakes. My check engine light came on for one day but then went off. My doors make horrible noises when I open them and one of my hubcaps just fell of one day. All in all..... DON'T BUY A NEON!

Fun car to drive & love the sound system.

Weakness:

Everything else!!

I bought this car back in 2001 and I thought I was getting a GREAT deal. Well, little did I know. The car had 6,300 miles when I purchased it from my grandmother. First there was this very strange sound when I was driving thru puddles, almost like the car was going to explode. I was hold it was the converter vibrating against the heat shield on the exhaust system. Now, at 28,000 miles, my head gasket is leaking oil!! Its been leaking since bout 25,000 miles. Now, I have the stress of dealing with this. I am 18 starting college in 3 weeks and now I have a car that is useless to me. I would never buy another Chyrsler or Dodge product again. I'm hading to the Honda dealer tonight to purchase a 2003 Civic. Need to get rid of this crap hole car before it cleans me out!!!

Strength:

THe motor is peppy, and it gets good gas mileage.

Weakness:

The motor is not worth a dime.

I bought the car when it had 26,000 miles on it, and shortly after starting having problems with it. I took it in three times because of an engine noise, and was told that there was carbon buildup on the valves. We paid to have the carbon flushed but it did no good. The engine still makes noise. At 60,000 miles, one of the fittings in the radiator for the transmission cooling line stripped out and fell off. The whole radiator needs to be replaced to fix it. I bought an oversized transmission cooler instead. The check engine light comes on now and then and goes back off after a week or so. I can never get any trouble codes out of it either. At about 87,000 miles, the radiator started leaking, so I ended up buying a new one anyway. Then at 92,000 miles, the damn thing started leaking oil bad. It looks like its the rear seal. It goes through a quart every other day. I really can't complain about the car up until now. Whatever the engine noise is, it hasn't affected the performance or anything. It is a fun car to drive when everything is working and it's holding all of its fluids. It does seem very unstable at freeway speeds on a windy day, especially when you come up on a semi.

Handles well and runs smoothly, except at idle. Decent if not great gas mileage. Nice looking.

Weakness:

Far too many things to repair, resulting in high operating costs. Poorly built car showing inadequate engineering and quality control. I would never buy another Daimler-Chrysler product.

I bought my 1998 Neon new. It has run smoothly and handled well. However, I have had too many problems. Head gasket replaced and sunroof repaired under warranty. Sunroof failed again. Tie rod had to be replaced at 40,000 miles (unheard of?). Oil seal leaked, requiring an expensive repair. Trunk and rear floor flooded. Rough idle. Just a poor quality car. It is now paid for, has 58,000 miles on it, and I am TRYING to sell it. Who would want it? Who would pay anything for it? Chrysler Corporation should be ashamed to have sold such a poor quality vehicle. No wonder we look to the Japanese for our cars.
