Strength:

Looks good. Rides good. Handles like a dream.

Weakness:

Not comfortable for plus size people. The motor blew at 87,000 miles. Then it kept blowing fuses, every time I started the darn thing, I had to put another fuse in it. Then, it started getting hot again. Do not buy this car. Lemon, if ever I saw one. This car has been in for repair 5 times in the last 3 months.. still getting hot. A royal piece of junk.

This car is a lemon.

Strength:

really good on gas

Weakness:

every thing, you would have to be stupid to buy one of these. cost you an arm and a leg, and a hand and your mind to take care of. if you have to wait a year or two and save your money on something worth buying, a neon isn't it.

Well, the car was good at first, then when one thing went, it all went. The engine valve, windsheild wiper blades don't work worth anything, the siding around the window is crap, the seat belt latch cover broke(every one i know had the same problem) the engine light is always on, no speed, other then that, good for a first car, if you don't mind it turning into shlt, or if you have a deep pocket.

Strength:

Sporty look

Weakness:

Everything else, my recommendation, don't buy under any conditions. A friend wants to give you one? Strike that person off your friendship list. Take the bus or the train. A far better deal. P.S. Anyone out there wants a used Neon?

Could have been a nice car if it had quality engineering

Strength:

Good acceleration.

Weakness:

The car handles like a whimsical balerina. You can't help but get the feeling that the car is gonna tip on a hard turn. Then there's the lenghty history of head gasket horrors that can only be viewed as a signal that you should not buy this car.

In all truth, the Plymouth Neon has a sporty look and a great feel.

Strength:

Great gas milage, lots of pep (when it ran), comfortable seats for small people.

Weakness:

Nearly everything. Dashboard gages quit working at about 90k, could be fixed for $250. Back seat is very uncomfortable for adults, possibly even children. These Neons are notorious for the blown head gaskets, and it happened to me at 100k. I threw over $1000 at it last year trying to get it running again, to no avail. It sits today in front of my mother-in-law's house, getting beat up by the neigborhood kids. Guess I'll have to face facts and sell it to salvage. AVOID THIS CAR AT ALL COSTS. EVEN IF IT CHECKS OUT OKAY AT A MECHANIC'S SHOP, PASS IT BY. THE HEAD GASKET WILL BLOW, AND IT'S NOT COVERED BY A RECALL!

I bought this car when it was brand new in December of 1995. It ran like a dream until March of 2002, just at 100k. That's when it happened, the head gasket blew! It's been to 2 different mechanics. The head gasket was replaced, but it still won't run. They say it's not sparking right, and I'll be danged if anybody can figure out the fix for it. So, it's sat for a year now. The salvage yard offered to buy it for $300-350. Everybody I talk to tells me to take the money and run, that it's not worth fixing. Guess I'll just have to face up to the facts, and sell it off to salvage.

MOTOR; NOT RELIABLE; HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

I bought this car new in 1999. The first week I had to take it to the dealer due to the power mirrors not being connected. Actually, two days later after I signed documents, the dealer called me and said that we needed to redo the paperwork because there was some mistake...oh and wanted me to go at that moment. (while I was working) Well to make my story short here are the times I took the car to the dealer...will HORRIBLE customer Service, here in San Diego Balboa Chrysler. NEW- 1st week; took it to the dealer for mirror connection. After ONE month; oil leak- so had to take the motor out to replace a seal. After 3 months; a loud click (noise) in the front. Didn't find nothing, so I lived with the clicking. 6th month- Sunroof would not close all the way nor open. (replaced) 3 months later the sunroof is not working after they had fixed it and maybe used 4 times. one year has passed, all the lights on the dash board went crazy and turned off and on...including the speedometer. After a year in a half, a weird loud noise started. A PISTON broke! TOOK OUT THE MOTOR again. GOT RID of it and took a lost. I'm pretty sure I missed a lot of more problems. I took thi car in to the dealer at LEAST 15 times in 2 years. (this is not including the oil changes, and regular maintance every other month)

Strength:

Gas mileage, reliability, acceleration, inexpensive.

Weakness:

Okay, remember, I like this car a lot, but, honestly...road noise, trunk, seats are a little uncomfy for the long term, not a lot of space. And if you even look at it funny, it gets a dent. Oh and the speakers aren't all that great.

I have been driving this Neon since September of 2001. It had 46,000 miles on it when I bought it. Today, it rolled over 103,000 miles. I have changed the oil, the brakes, the tires (yesterday), and, of course, the head gasket. Thats it! My biggest mistake, buying an extended warranty! It is reliable and GREAT on gas! Still, I have a few complaints...road noise (VERY bad), the trunk is stuck (mystery), the panel has somehow come loose on one door...But I have abused this car! I drive through snow banks that 4x4's have gotten stuck in. I never could have guessed that this little thing would run SO WELL. Maybe I just got lucky, but I would recommend one to anyone. Fair warning, watch that head gasket.

5-speed manual gets up and goes, excellent gas mileage

Weakness:

cheap throw away car

the first 3 mnths were great. Then the brakes went bad allm around. Of course the dealership would have nothing to do with it. Then we had to have a valve replaced. Now my engine is blown because the timing belt broke and bent my valves. The trunk leaks and it sounds like the front end is going to fall off when driving down the road.

Haven't had it long enough to comment on it.

I bought the car used with about 26,000 miles on it(one previous owner)and have had the car a little over a month and have experience the cars entire power system going dead while traveling down the road. It will happen as soon as I either turn my turn signals on, apply my brakes, turn my head lights on, or flash my head lights. What really scared the crap out of me was the power completely died one NIGHT while traveling from one major interstate highway on a cloverleaf ramp onto a beltway interstate. I had lights, not even emergency flashers. It was like the power to your entire house being cut off. I was able to come to a complete stop upon which I managed to open the hood of the car and jiggled battery wires ontop of the battery and suddenly the power was restored. This is the only fault I have had with this car to date. but after reading some of the previous reviews I'm probably in for more problems shall we say "down the road"?
