Strength:

Looks, reliability, MPG, storage capacity, seats not only fold down, but also tumble and can be removed.

Weakness:

I've heard that since there's no rear bumper, a hit from the rear can cause considerable damage. (Don't stop short!!)
No weaknesses in my mind.

Phenomenal vehicle. My favorite car ever. I now sell cars, and compared all other small SUVs on the market, it's still the tops in my opinion. Smooth ride, 24-26 mpg. Rear seats fold and tumble forward making room for just about anything. Seats also come out and are light weight. My wife can carry both rear seats into the house at the same time. We fit a dryer back in there once. Rear seats recline making passengers comfortable. Ours is 2wd (front wheel) and no troubles in Buffalo, NY snow. Looks great, rides nice. All our friends love it. At 47K we've only ever done oil changes and bought new all weather tires. Never had a single service issue. I would buy this vehicle again and again.

Great pick up
Lots of room

Weakness:

Rear hatch sticks no matter how I try to unlock it.

I must have gotten the best car they made. Other than regular maintenance, this is my cars first time in the shop. Fuil injector has gone bad. It runs great, heats up fast, halls everything, handles great and looks good. I hope to own it for a long time!

Everything else sucks.Only buy this vehicle if you want headaches and poor gas milage.

This vehicle has been nothing but a headache.I bought this vehicle 5 days ago and so far I've had to bring it back to the place I bought 3 times.First for the ABS system then the rear end is making a terrible loud noise when I turn left or right. The serpentine belt, and my power stearing is very noisey. My wife is 6 months pregnant and the ABS works when it wants and kicks at 2 mph on a smooth road surface and she does not feel safe driving this vehicle anymore. And dont get me startedon the electrical issues.

Strength:

I do like to unique style of the car, like the cooler between the seats.

Weakness:

Everything electrical, the comfort could be improved, warrenty a little better

I have had nothing but problems with my Aztec since a few weeks after purchasing it. There is an annoying clunking in the front end, I brought it to the pontiac dealership within my warrenty and they were unable to locate the clunking and i have brought it to my personal mechanic who also can not find it, very very annoying. I have replaced the computer (approximately $400 Part) Twice... my vehicle only has 67,000 miles on it. Also have replaced the front wheel bearings as I received a nice letter stating that other owners are experiencing same symptoms however your vehicle needs to be under 60,000 which mine was over by 7,000 called the company they could care less. The heater is awful and doesnt blow hot air all the time it jumps back and forth. Had it looked at and appears that is a normal feature with this vehicle. Gas gauge not very reliable jumps up and down... very annoying. Head rests on the front seats are very uncomfortable not very praticle. The rear spolier does create a blind spot, not the best with lots of traffic.

Strength:

Excellent towing performance!!! Smooth on off road. Excellent turn, it will spin on a dime. Lot's of cargo space.

Weakness:

If you're thinking about doing some repaire on this car, FORGET IT!!! You won't be able to get to anything. Everything is so compact. and when you take it to the delership for repair, they will brake something just to get to anything, Trust me on this!!!
AC on this car is terrible. 2 AC repair per year and it's out again now. Very poor electronic system.

This is a 2001 mdl. We bought it used and had about 20k miles on it. first owner took real good care of it. I hated the way it looks but my girlfriend likes it so we bought it. We've been traveling the country in this car. We have put 120,000 miles on this car and it's still running like new. We travel with a 5*8 Uhaul trailer. The engine on this car is Great. Started in Fl to DE,NY,CA,AR,NM,TN, back to FL. than started again to MD, and we are now in Ca again.

Strength:

Fairly decent gas mileage,
Good, sporty looks (my girlfriend calls it "sexy"),
Lots of power for a V6
Cargo space

Weakness:

Quirky rear hatch,
Rough ride,
Not enough neck support in front seats

I probably should have waited a while to write my review, but I have owned my Aztek for three weeks and I absolutely love it. Of course, I really havn't drove it enough to see if it's going to have any problems, but nonetheless I really like it.

I bought it three years old with 29,115 miles. It's obvious that the previous owners took very good care of it just by looking at it. No scratches or anything on the exterior and despite a few spots and scuffs on the inside, it looks new.

So far, there's only a few gripes I have about it. Firstly, the car rides a little rough, and since I live on a gravel (i.e., dirt) road, I have to drive significantly slower in order to keep from flying through the windshield. Actually, this might be a blessing in disguise, as it encourages me to drive slower and take it easy on the car (which needs to last me a long time!).

Secondly, sometimes when I get in the car and turn it on, the REAR HATCH AJAR light will come on for no reason and I have to open and close the rear hatch to make it go off. But I can live with this. Besides, any car with a lot of electrical gadgetry is bound to have a few flaws.

Thirdly, I have to push the button twice on the kepad to open the back hatch: once to open, and a second time to unlock it and then I have to open it within three seconds. Again, no reason to have the car repossessed.

Fourthly, that darn spoiler in the back is such a nuisance. It makes for a huge blind spot and I have to use my mirrors a lot.

And lastly, the cargo storage areas in the back look good from away, but upon closer inspection, you can see the designers used low quality plastic and storage covering panels that takes away from the car's value.

roomy, great for mountain rides, traveling

Weakness:

When something does happen they are hard to work on. Even if it is just the windshield wiper blades.

I have read a lot of the reviews on this website about the aztec. Wow. The only real problem that I have had is this really loud noise when I turn into a parking spot. I have went through a lot of brake pads but that is because of me. Every car that I have ever owned I have had to replace the brakes constantly. I am really bad on brakes. I love my aztec. I really hope I don't start having problems like everyone else. I have 67,000 miles on mine. When I bought it, it only had 18000. I have been to texas, north carolina, and west virgina. I love it. I am really praying that mine don't start screwing up. This car is perfect for kids, and traveling.

Are there any?

Weakness:

A/C terrible!

I traded a 1997 Honda Civic in for this piece of junk. GM should have given these cars away!

At 35,000+ miles I took the car into the dealer to have it serviced because the heat would not turn on, then suddenlty it would randomly kick on, on full blast and I couldn't turn it off. It was like a crap shoot every morning going out to work. I scheduled an appointment and brought it in. I get a call at work and they told me they couldn't diagnose the air conditioning because I needed a new battery. That would cost me a little over 300.00. I told them no for the battery that I would be in to pick it up after work. I picked it up and went to PEP boys and got a battery for 89.00! A far cry from 300.00! I brought it to my school shop (I teach h.s. and there is an auto shop there) to have the auto tech teacher install for FREE and he told me that my battery was fully charged. Hummm...needless to say I couldn't get an appointment until get this...4 days AFTER my mfg warranty ran out!

I figured it was a knob or something that might cost about 200.00 or so....The dealer calls...935.00! Ouch! Are you kidding me? He reminded me that my warranty ran out that he would give me 10% off that price. What?

Then I laid into him, letting him know that I tried to have it serviced 3 months before the warranty ran out and reminded him how I was basically being "ripped off" to replace a battery. He told me that I needed A/C controler modulator, Blower Resister, and HVAC Connectors.

Once again, I told him I would be back at 5:00 when my husband came home from work. At 4:00 I get a phone call. Well will do it for 450.00. The manufactuer will pay for the parts all you have to do is pay for the labor.

I dropped it off at the dealer tonight for them to fix tomorrow, guess what the air finally kicked on! But now I have a puddle of water on both the driver & passenger floors.

Also my radio is out and sometime the rear door won't open!

What lemon! I decided I will only buy a car that is like 3 years old or I will lease one and give it back just as the problems occur!

Strength:

Interior room
Flexibility in it's use
Ease in removing seats
Drives and handles like a car
Dual air controls
Engine just like new after 171,00 miles minus a few repairs

Weakness:

Squealing brakes
Front wheel bearings
Intake leak
Drives a little roughin high winds

I love my Aztec! I bought it brand new and have experienced some of the same problems as everyone else, intake leak, brakes, front wheel bearings but I also have 171,000 miles on my vehicle. It still drives like a car and serves me and my family's needs. I wish Pontiac would fix the obvious problems and continue making this car. I can't find another car/suv with the same roomy interior or versatility that the Aztec offers. I use my Aztec for family vacations, every day driving to work as well as hauling my lawn mower and snow blower around in the back when needed. I can't do that in other SUV's because they just don't have the space. Even the new Torrent does not match up to the Aztec interior wise.
