Bearings Arm rest seems to wear easily

I love the car. Very roomy, easy to find in a parking lot, looks like and SUV but considered a car, radio easy to use and understand with great sound quality. Wonderful all around. I am having some problems with the ball bearings and hubs at the moment with only 41,000 miles on the car, also of course out of warranty, but not a huge deal. The rear Hatch did give us a few problems but once we figured out the few seconds rule with it re-locking wasnt to bad to deal with. Also the arm rests in the front tendt to wear easily, because the vehile sits High and I am short I tend to use the arm rest to get in and out of my car so that could be user related.

Strength:

Lots of them & I've had a good experience thus far. Comfortable. Roomy. Easy to make U-Turns. I could sleep in it. Quiet ride. Scotch Guard helps keep it clean. Doggies love the vehicle. Five people are comfortable in it. Good fuel economy considering size. Can find it easily.

Weakness:

None that do not have a remedy, but here are some considerations: Have to get used to seeing the spoiler in the rear view mirror. Must use side mirrors to ensure vehicles behind the Aztek are noticed. Spare tire is a space-saver. Without my shelving idea, groceries roll everywhere.

If you saw a woman driving a white Aztek with personal plates related to flying, you probably saw me. My Aztek now has about 34,000 miles, and I hope it keeps running well. I purchased it 800 miles from my home, so the first miles were primarily driven on the Interstates. Except for a faulty restraining belt adjustment knob, I haven't had any problems. I consider the hatch a non-issue because I rarely use it. When I need to open it, I do so with the key remote while lifting. No problems with that. The Service Engine Soon light did come on one time, but extinguished before I took it to a shop. I think it's time to do some servicing. My Golden Retrievers love the car. I've removed the seats, and they gladly sleep on the padding I've placed in the back. Under the padding I cut carpet to completely cover the flooring. Since I'm a hiker, the dogs can get the car quiet dirty. Lowe's sells shelving that fits perfectly width-wise in the back. I can open the rear window and place goods on the shelving. Bungee Cords hold this white standard closet shelving in place. I can place suitcases on it, and other stuff under it. Last summer I attached an inexpensive bike rack and drove the car another 2000 miles. With two bikes the car got a bit better mileage than without. Could have to do with airflow or weight distribution. I keep track of my mileage and it consistently gets 19+ miles to the gallon when driving city & highway mixes. Since I am a pilot, I considered making a bumper sticker that reads: MY OTHER VEHICLE IS AN UGLY JET for those who don't like the car. My other vehicle is a 1989 four-cylinder Mustang with 250,000 miles. It just keeps running, even those the locks, radio, and cooling system are problems. I've had it since 3 miles, and put MOBIL 1 in it right away. I did this with the Aztek, too, hoping it would extend the life of the motor. My boyfriend was skeptical about the Aztek, but he loves it now, too. We've driven many 12 hour trips in one day; it's comfortable, roomy and quiet (at least until my boyfriend yells at me 'cause I drive too fast!)

Great handling good gas milage roomy interior but lousy mechanics. Replaced intake manifold gaskets, thermostat, front bearing hubs, universals, front brakes and only have 60000 miles. What a bummer. The intake manifold has an engineering design flaw in that the bolts holding down the manifold are not alined with the intake and water ports. This alows the manifold to leak antifreeze and oil. The front hubs are ball bearing design which do not last more than 50000 miles.

Strength:

Acceleration, room, stereo, smooth ride, great gas mileage

Weakness:

hatch lock, squeaky breaks

I recently purchased an Aztek. After reading many of the reviews about people having trouble with the rear hatch, i discovered the 3 second safety lock is probably fooling most people. If you press the hatch release button inside the vehicle,by the time you get to the back it already locks again. if you use the keypad you can hear it unlock and then lock again, so use the key pad and lift within 3 secondes or it locks on you, this is not a malfunction just an overly safe feature incase the button is bumped while driving. I Love the abundance of space and the stereo. Great pick up and the feel of a luxury sporty suv. Sometimes i hear the rear brakes squeal. Hopefully I wont experience the problems many of you have had. How did some of you get a FREE tent package sent to you?

Roomy, nice ride, and I love the look

Weakness:

Just about everything but the looks and the room

Nothing but problems with this car. Love the look and the room, and even the performance. but the problems outweigh the good points. Before 30,000 miles, the hatch needed work and both bearing were replaced. SInce then, a pile of problems have surfaced, which of course are now out of warranty. Just some of these are drivers side heatedseat quit working, radio lights went out, gearshift lights went out, check engine light comes on often, dashboard lights flash, headlights and tail lights have started blowing bulbs, hatch needs fixed again, goes through brake pads like no tomorrow, intake manifold gasket went bad. I am actually looking for other Aztec owners with similar problems to contact me at bandit0369@hotmail.com, to discuss the possibility of a class action lawsuit about our vehicles. I have talked to many other Aztec owners with similar problems.

Great Stereo!! great room - I have a really bad back and this car is great for me. Better than an SUV more like a large sports car, good pick up, love the look the ride, the space, the interior. Love it overall!!! I want it to last forever. I would buy another one but prefer the older two tone version and not the newer "painted" looking bottom section.

Weakness:

Oil use, brakes problems

Love my Aztek! But having a few problems, front brakes (pads and rotars) replaced. fe days later squeeling when braking, replaced rotars (underwarranty) and were ok for a few days now squeeling again. Not only when braking but when rolling at idle speed. repair person baffled. Other concern - Oil use - I have to add 2 quarts of oil every 1,000 miles. Doesn't leak doesn't burn, no problems identified by mechanics, just uses oil. Baffled again.

Very roomy, love how different it looks from other vehicles.

Weakness:

engine issues, seat cable

I really want to love this car because of how roomy it is. I have only had it for 6 months and now I am having to put new head gaskets in it. I'm a poor college student and cannot do this without mom and dad's help (thank God). I am getting really nervous about all of the feedback on this site. I'm planning on calling Pontiac about but it doesn't sound like it will help at all. I cannot afford to put more money into this car, I don't know what I'll do if I have to. As you can see I didn't pay a lot for it because I have a dealer buy if for me at an auction and I only paid cost. But it only has about 45,000 miles on it. I'm getting a little discourage about it by all of the comments. Interior is fantastic. I hope my mechanical problems are gone for a while. I also have had the driver side seat cable break so it won't tilt back. That is going to cost $180 to fix....$30 for part and 2 HOURS to replace (gotta wonder about these dealers!!!)

ROOM ROOM ROOM!! storage, visability, comfort of ride, handling, height for getting in and out, easy to spot! Great audio system, lots of toys

Weakness:

Hatch issues and locking that's now fixed,

I love this thing! At 6'2" and female I've hated most cars I've driven, and the Aztek actually has enough room for me. Head, leg and shoulder room where big issues when I went looking last year. Storage and rear passenger room were high on my list of must have's also. I have 2 kids, both of whom are tall and getting taller....they fit comfortably in the back seat. Cargo? Can't beat it. I love the way it handles, the fact that I don't have to stoop to get in or out, I can see over most cars and around most big vehicles. Gas usage is good specially compaired to my old Astro van. I never lose it in a parking lot. The plastic body cladding on the lower half of the Aztek is a wonderful thing! No Scratches!! Had an issue with the back hatch not opening, it not going into gear from park *brake goes right to the floor* and the locks not working correctly all the time, but this has been fixed at the dealer under warrentee...it's a body sensor that had to be replaced and Pontiac does know about it. I adore my Aztek. I have a base model, front wheel drive with 10k miles on it now.

Cool looking. Hauls a lot of stuff. Comfortable. Good sound system.

Weakness:

The sun roof. The air conditioner.

Well...Air conditioning problems seem to abound. When I bought my Aztek, I loved it. First the sun roof leaked; of course there was nothing the dealer could do. Now the air compressor has gone out. I had it repaired, but it went out again in a week's time. I'm bringing it back again today. (The compressor? Twice? So says the mechanic...) The repairs have been rather expensive, so much for the extended warranty... Has anyone any advice on how I can get this fixed? I live in the deep South where the temperature reached the 90s on October 21.

Owned the car for 2+ years and loved many things about it. AWD, side air bags, ABS,ride and handeling, very safe car. The optional radio was FANTASTIC. Decent gas milage. 24-25 mpg on the hiway. Started to have problems around 45,000 miles. I use my car for business and could not afford to be at the dealer very often. Traded it at 60,000.
