Strength:

This car is very sporty. Great Acceleration, great interior, sporty, very slick. Love the dual exhaust, just like a trans am almost!! Can do 0-60mph in under 7 seconds if you take care of it. (Dont give it cheap gas people). (This is a sport car, feed it the due, and it will perform.) Oh and last but not least EXCELLENT JOB ON SUSPENTION, very smooth, great suspension system, almost as good as the 328 BWM. Everything else is great!!

Weakness:

Breaks could use alittle improvements. Cup holders position is alittle off, making the middle cup holder in the console in your way to shift the car sometimes.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND, if you want a car for the price, and for what it can do, go for it...

Strength:

It had cupholders, nice chrome wheels (cheap though) and did i mention cupholders?

Weakness:

Hmmm, where should i start. pwer mirrors didnt work, very loud at high speeds, cheaply designed, the abslolute worst car i have ever owned. Interior design is disgusting and the cheap plastic is a joke.

I hate this car with a passion. i got up saturday morning and started thinking about what do to with this POS. I never owned a japanese car in my life but after a year with this thing, i find myself driving by the Honda dealership more often. It takes forever for the windows to roll completely up but the rat-bastard at the dealership says its normal? BS
My coworker has a 94 accord ex with almost 160,000 miles on it, hasnt had a single problem with it, none whatsoever. Those japs really know what they're doing. and finally, i always get a little scared before making a long distance trip in this thing, just never know when its gonnna finally give. (32,000 miles)

Strength:

Dependable. Starts great in cold weather. Comfortable riding car. Great on the highway. Nice looking. Good stereo system. Average gas mileage.

Weakness:

Paint chipped on the hood and the top. Little holes that grow to big circles.

I would recommend the car. It's dependable. I had mine from 1994-2000. Bought it with 60k and gave it to my brother at 120k. Still a great riding car. Had to replace the alternator once. Oil light would always come on but was not low on oil. Have to expect little things to go wrong on an 8 year old car, but the problems did not impact the performance. Good reliable car.

Strength:

This car has come along way since the earlie production day's. Its fast off the line and an 80 mile an hour cruise is effortless. I like the insulated engine firewall and the ram air is a nice feature, the sound equipment is great and the handling is tight.

Weakness:

Watch out for the recall on the rear knuckle assembly. The top edge of the door panels is a real concern for me. As a member of the ISCA International Show Car Association i like to pay attention to detail, In short someone is using an inadequate adhesive on the door pannel vinyl. Watch out for bubling along the top edge.

Great car! its fast and friendly, I like the GT Coupe over the SE i feel its just a smarter looking vehicle, but keep an eye out on the Rear Knuckel recall and the door sil vinyl bubling. I would definately by another.

Strength:

Not much to like. Style is ok, although somewhat overdone. Chrome wheel STYLE is ok although chrome is cheap. It has grown in size compared to the previous design. It is a very quiet car only at idling.

Weakness:

Styling looks like a child designed it, as most pontiac products look like. The dash is even worse, what were they thinking? Its not a spaceship! its a car! Poor build quality, interior is cheap, and falling apart. Exterior appointments are quite cheap also. Dual exhaust is all gimmick. It doesn't make a sound. One side is probably fake anyways, just an extension to the real pipe!

This car seems pretty nice when you first buy it. All the people giving it high ratings and good reviews only have not had enough time for the headaches to roll in. First of all, did you know the engine design is dated? It is a old pushrod design that is loud and weak. Only 170 horsepower for a huge 3.4L? what a joke. Ram Air? what a joke again. Dual exhaust? Its all a gimmick. The interior is ok although seats very cheap and uncomfortable. The door trim is coming off on my car on all the doors!! how cheap is that? My parking brake is just cosmetic. It doesnt work. The car's handling is pretty poor. It don't feel as powerful as it should either. Don't race at the stoplight with this car unless you want to lose, even again 4 cylinder VTEC hondas. The car costs way too much for what its worth. If I were to recommend anything, get a SE grand am, they cost much less and are the same car. The 4 cylinders in the SE are decent engines also. But if I were to really recommend a real car, make sure to get something German or Japanese. American cars just plan aren't up to par. At least they make better cars than Korea. They better though! We invented the automobile after all. Its embarassing that other countries can produce better products that we invented in the first place.

It is only marginally better than any korean car. I would only choose this car again if life depended on it, or if my only other choise was a korean car.

Strength:

Quick car, body styling, radio with steering wheel controls.

Weakness:

Steering is too responsive, should have breakaway mirrors (listening Pontiac?), brakes should have better stopping distance since equipped with ABS

I just turned 36 last week and traded in my BMW 323 for a new Grand AM GT1 why I know you are thinking did this guy hit his head or what. My wife and I want to build a small chalet in the mountains and we decided to buy the Grand Am and give up leasing the BMW so we would be out of a monthly payment and own the car. Let me start to say their is no comparison between the 2 cars but I will tell you what I feel in the first month of ownership and 1000 miles on the Grand Am GT1. I have had NO PROBLEMS so far and will post comment if something occurs. The car has every option that Pontiac has to offer in the GT1 line 2 door coupe. I bought it as a 2000 leftover so had little choice. I am not a fan of leather but found it to be very comfortable in this car it is charcoal in color. The car does not have the chrome wheels and I am not fond of them anyway thought they were to shiny.
This car is very fast with a 7.7 0-60 (same as a BMW 323) with a automatic which is silky smooth. I prefer a 5 speed but not available at this time in the V6. This car is thirsty and has the 175 HP ram air. I have taken it up to 125 MPH and it at no point did I ever feel uncomfortable with this car at that speed. Steering is too responsive and could allow for some leniency. Brakes are adequate and has standard ABS but their is room for improvement. Heat and AC work effortlessly. The steering wheel controls for the radio are a great feature and would highly recommend them. The car has a CD and casette player which I usually have seen, one or the other not both. I must say the radio in this car is fantastic with it being only a few steps below the BMW sound system both which are factory. My wife says she has a problem seeing out the back window with the spoiler on the trunk. She is 5'4 I have had no problems and I am 6'0. The side mirrors should breakaway in case they are hit by a bicycle in the city or another vehicle with mirrors on a small street (people that live in a large city know what I mean). Trunk could use a larger and lower opening but does have fold down rear seats. For the price I paid $18800 window sticker was approximately $23000 I must say I am very happy with the quality and power this machine has to offer. At this point I would recommend this auto to another with some reservation about crash test results. I have found some sites that rated it poor and some adequate. Once again their is NO COMPARISON to the BMW 323 I used to drive but then again the BMW was $13500 yes $13500 MORE that the Grand Am GT1. Happy driving!

Strength:

Awesome pick up for a 4cyl! It beats the snot out of my roomys Ford Contour 6cyl! The standard transmission MAKES this car! It is so fast with it, and so slow without it. ABS IS GOOD, but once again I have problems with quivering while stopping, much like other people who have written reviews. Replaced thhe speakers and head unit, and installed subs, which were all so easy to put in. Great styling. Car has 28000 miles on in at no rattles. Easy to work on the engine and around it as well. AWESOME GAS MILEAGE! I went to NYC on 4 seperate occasitions and managed to get 33 MILES TO THE GALLON, including stop and go traffic when I hit Brooklyn!

Weakness:

I HATE THE DEALERSHIP! I worked there to make some money over summer break from college, and I quit because they screwed over 4 of my customers right before they signed the contract! I lost a lot of money because of their greed! If you have bought cars from them, pull your contract and check to make sure that you too didnt get screwed! DOOR LOCKS FREEZE! Buy some lub and spray in the locks to keep this from happening.

BUY THIS CAR! I too have seen test crash footage, and I have been in a crash in my friends 97 Grand Am (Side impact, passenger side door). It is all good. I walked away with hardly a scratch. FAST AND SPORTY CAR! All my friends cant believe that it is a 4 cylinder!

Strength:

Acceleration, Good Sound system(covers up the road noise)

Weakness:

Where to begin, purchased the car almost a year ago. Had the front brakes and rotors replaced with 4300 miles on the car. From what I understood from Pontiac Customer Satisfaction Center the was a recall, I was not notified of it because it was not a wide spread problem. At 5000 miles the front door right window regulator was replaced because it would creak and sound like the window motor was still going all the time. At 6000 miles the car was in for a leak in the passenger rear side the floor would get soaked, a Deflector was replaced and I was told it was repaired. Also had terrible road noise. Well at 8000 miles I was back at the dealership for the leak they then replaced the sealing on the door dealer told me because Pontiac changed to silicon sealant. Still have that road noise too. At 9000 miles it was back for the leak (and the road noise) they could not re-create the trouble, but they caused another one, no longer did the back get wet it was the front of my car the passenger side floor was soaked and I had water coming out of the speakers. Also they had to repair the drivers window again because of noise. Well I am now at 10,000 miles and the car is back at the dealer for the power steering, I have yet to hear what needs to be replaced on it but I am sure I will be back in probably back there to see them anyways in about another 1,000 miles.

I would highly recommend anyone and everyone to think twice before buying a new Grand AM. I was confident with the 95 except for the fact that every time I hit a bump it felt like I hit a house, that was due to fulda assuro tires(which also are not recommended).

Strength:

Sporty look, low profile tires and chrome wheels, sunroof, leather seating, dual exhaust, steering wheel radio controls, sunroof. Plenty interior room and huge trunk. Handles excellent in turns. Good stereo system. Stylish interior.

Weakness:

Horsepower is okay, would be better with a 3.8L Gas mileage leaves a bit to be desired also. Two front cupholders are useless because of the shifter and tape deck could be a bit higher. Response is a bit sluggish, but I made some moderate improvements to the engine to correct this, which includes a K&N filtercharger kit and throttle position enhancer. Brakes need work.

I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a sporty yet affordable and economical car. It gets a whole lot of attention, sometimes to the point of aggravation. I love my Grand Am. It stands out from any other car in its class and is a blast to drive.
