The acceleration is fantastic and the handling is also excellent. The dealer threw in the alloy wheels and they make a huge difference in the appearence of the car, it really completes it. iCe CoLd A/C, it's absolutely capable of putting icesicles on my dash.
Weakness:
small short with the blinker that is covered under warranty, just not able to get it in yet. Car pulls a little bit to either side when accelerating from either a low speed or a stop, but I think disabling the traction control would help ease that problem. The radio that came in the vehicle was horrible, the first order of business was installing a new $320 Pioneer CD deck along with radar detector. I love this car, I purchased it after selling my '91 Ford F-150 and this car has turned out to be my dream car. If I need to get up and go, the power is there nicely complemented with decent gas milage. I got the car with about 35,XXX miles on it and everything right down to the spark plug wires are in mint condition. It is a white care and was sharp looking to begin with, but since tinting the windows I am even more happy with this vehicle. My only major complaint is the insurance on my V-6 170 HP SE automatic model, but that's not the cars fault. Similar Products Used: Oldsmobile Alero--Grand Am handling feels more like a sports car, much tighter and for me that is a good thing. |

Grand AM GT
Strength:
Great performance for the price. Handles good in the snow and in the rain with the traction control. Nice stereo system, I have both the cassette and the CD player, along with the 6 speakers. Very smooth ride.
Weakness:
Breaking seems to be a problem though. The brakes seem to be tight at times. Also, the cup holders are in an akward position in front of the shifter. Other than that I cannot think of any other weaknesses This is my first new car that I have bought. I love the way the Grand Am GT handles. It takes corners really well, it's a smooth ride. Also, the factory stereo system is great. It has a 6 speaker system made by Monsoon. Overall, I am really happy with the performance of the car. I like body design, and also people notice you when your driving around in this car. The traction control and front wheel drive are also some of the main reasons why I bought the car. I'm very happy with it. Similar Products Used: I don't know if this is a fair comparision, but my brother has a 1996 Firebird with a 3.4 Liter V6 engine. The car drives like a rock compared to the 2001 Grand Am GT. The Grand Am is lighter and more responsive in cornering and acceleration. I've also driven a 1996 Mustang and that had a 3.8 Liter V6, I had the same feeling with that car as I did with the '96 Firebird. I know that these are not fair comparisions, but I really do feel that the 2001 Grand Am GT is a great buy. |

Strength:
For the 2.3 quad4 it gets decent acceleration and the handling is nice. It also gets great gas mileage. I drive mine hard and I still get 22 city and 34 highway. Also the factory speakers still sound great even after putting in the new CD player.
Weakness:
It has a squeak inside and I have had water in the trunk and in the glove box. Also the engine is loud and the the check oil light will come on and go off or sometimes fade between the two even when the oil was just changed and filled. I have also have also had to replace a couple belts. It is a good first car but it is a wierd engine to work on and it has some complicated qualities. Similar Products Used: I have driven same year cavaliers and it is much better. |

V-6
Strength:
decent amount of horsepower
Weakness:
poor handling, bad gas mileage. (1999 Model) - This car was equipped with low profile tires and marketed as a ""sporty"" handler. I have driven dozens of vehicles and this one is the worst handling car I have ever driven. The body rolls like a boat on even the most gentle freeway lane changes and it routinely understeers (plows right through the front tires) on 15mph left hand turns. You nearly have to stop to make a right hand turn without skidding the front tires. I have been honked at and almost rear-ended trying to hang a turn this beast! This poor handling combined with the horsepower of its v6 is simply dangerous in my opinion. |

Pontiac Grand Am GT.
Strength:
Powerful. This engine kicks butt! In my opinion, this model should be in the sports car section. The stock sound system is amazing. It has an equilzer bilt into the system. Plenty of room for passengers in the back & front seat. One fast little car.
Weakness:
The only weaknesses I have found are the cup are too small. The stereo has no casset player. Both of those problems are so minute that I feel they shouldn't even count. (1999 Model) - This car is a great find. It looks hot yet it will fit the family unlike the average sports car. I highly recammend this car for the person who wants a whippy zippy car, but has to have a family car. You will have your cake & eat it too! |

Strength:
The looks of the car. It's really fast for a 4 cylinder car. Interior is comfortable.
Weakness:
Everything inside rattles like hell. Feels like it's going to fall apart. A lot of electrical and mechanical problems. I've had the vehicle for almost three years now. I absolutely love the way it looks. Air package on GT's makes them look sporty. I can say that i've spent at least another $4500 to get it fixed. I just had my second alternator replaced. The brakes on the car go pretty fast. A lot of trouble with electrical system. Turn signals stop working properly for a few hours several times a year, but nobody know why, because everything seems to be alright. I had my cluth and master cylinder replaced at about 65000mi. It cost me $1100. A/C is pretty good but the knob stopped working two times already. I replaced my struts and shoks at 70000mi. At 80000mi I replaced rear bearings (one side $350). The ride intself is great. The car handles corners pretty good. I like the engine. It's powerful. I've raced with Eclipse(GS), Mustang(cyl.), Hondas, Cavaliers, Altimas, etc. These cars can't catch me. The stickshift could be a little smother when it comes to speed shifting. I have a good stereo system inside which makes everything to rattle even more. The paint on the car is good if you take care of it. I detailed cars for a couple of years, so I take real good care of it. Even now the paint looks almost new. Overall, the car is alright. Even though I spent a lot of money on it I still love it. I would by another Grand Am. It's better than ford or chrysler. Similar Products Used: Compared to eclipse, mazda, cavalier. |

Looks very sporty, and inexpensive. It is very powerful as well.
Weakness:
The seats aren't that comfortable anymore, and the steering is quite tight. It is a very fun car to drive and it has a lot of power. I get tons of looks with the car. It looks great from the outside and is very sporty looking. The seats are comfortable, yet the steering is quite tight. Similar Products Used: It's ok compared to others |

Strength:
Looks, power for such small engine(2.4 litre 4 cyl)
Weakness:
where do i start-the seat cushion shifted off the frame and now(we have yet to get it fixed)there is a metal rod that goes up the seat that digs into your back which maked the car more uncomfortable then it already is. it sometimes makes a clicking noise when turning the valve is always ticking. its terrible on gas for such a small engine. the volume control when you try to turn the radio down it goes up. the passenger side of te car leakes somewhere when it rains leaving the back floor and espessially under the passenger seat soaking wet which we would have never noticed unless looking for a cd. This car is terrible. we have a 36 month lease on it (so we saved ourselves) the car looks nice and it is but only looks. this is supposed to be a 5 passenger car but really only 4 can be in there comfortably the rear middle seat is like sitting on a steel hump. the valve ticks when passed 2000 rpm's. dont buy this car you will terribly regret it. its got the worst crash test rating. like i said earlier we saved ourselves by leasing it we are trying to turn it in early. the car hasnt broke down on us and weve driven it on long trips the lease ends august 2002 hopefully it will last until then.
