Model Reviewed: Saturn SC1 3 Door Coupe

Strength:

Mileage; dependability; convenience of the third door.

Weakness:

Noise, and the engine could stand a bit more power. Although my wife very seldom drives the Saturn, she complains about the ride (too rough), driving position (too low), and visibility (can't see the front of the car due to the high dash and sharp drop-off of the hood).

The SC1 is my second Saturn, purchased to replace my 1997 SL1 that was totalled in an accident. It's a very competent if unexciting car that has reasonable power and gets decent gas mileage. It's also very dependable. The only mechanical problem I've had was with the battery. The third door is very handy for putting large objects in the back seat without having to move either the driver or passenger seat.

Strength:

It looks nice, is good on gas, is reliable and wears well.

Weakness:

It is small (but it's a sports car). NOt many "extras" and is a bit uncomfortable for long rides.

I have had my SC1 for over 6 years. I bought it a couple years old with $27,000 miles on it. I LOVE IT! I seriously have put little money into the car, besides the normal wear and tear. I still have the same cluth and transmission, and I am approaching 120,000 miles. I love this car. I would buy a Saturn any day.

Price alot of car for $$ easy to work on gas milage-30mpg mixed with intake etc.

Weakness:

noisy interior soft paint-especially the front-lots of highway chips limted aftermarket-though this is improving

Very nice sporty car unique look. Power is lacking but very easy to add a few after market parts to correct that problem. Have had the car since 2000 with no repairs other than regular maintaince and car is easy to work on.

Even the SOHC is pretty torquey and nice styling. Good MPG.

Weakness:

Governer clocks the SOHC out at 104, small wheels, very uncomfortable seats. Performance parts hard to find!

This is a great car, the only thing I have had to replace was the battery. I love the style. Even though it a SOHC with 100hp, it's still pretty quick. Some illegal street racing proved that. I won against a 2001 V6 Tauras and a 93 Dadge Ram 1500 V8. I've added a few things since i bought it, cold air intake, coilovers, struts, custom white interior, wing, and a couple of 12's in the trunk. I'm planning on buying some rims in the newar future, maybe 16 in the front 17 in the back.

GAS MILEAGE!!!!!! Cute Sporty Look Third Door Adjustable Seat, ie. lower back and seat height adjustments. Also, the seatbelt has a special little gadget that allows it to be just perfect for me, (always been a problem with other cars, I'm only 5' tall!) ABS Breaks, saved me from some close calls Trunk is huge & seats fold down DENT RESISTANT DOORS!!!!! Great sound system

Weakness:

Rotors warped already, just got in 11/02 Not very quick, & starts shaking at 80 mph

This is a great little sporty car! I don't have much grief with it except it could be a little faster. Getting on the highway or going up hills is torture for me. But, when I got the car, I was driving a V6 prior to my Saturn, so I was used to the extra power. The third door is great, esp. for loading in groceries, people, etc. The sun roof is great, just really noisy on the highway when left open.

looked great with a double stack wing! GREAT RELIABILITY! sound good w/exhaust! fun driving & my dates made fun of it,but I was picking them up from the garage!lol!

Weakness:

Used alot of OIL! If the front was a little out of line, the car inside come apart! Just the OIL consumption.

I bought the car in 1999 with 55,000 miles & traded in 2003 with 170,000 miles. I only had to put a water pump and a altenator on the red beauty. She ran great when I treated her bad.never broke down on me once. just traded for a "97" sc1. hope this is good as my last! beautiful car!

Strength:

Gas mileage, reliability, and fun to drive. Especially goin right by civics and eclipses with $600-$1000 in them.

Weakness:

None

This car is great. I bought it in March of last year, and the only money I have had to put in it is gas and oil. I bought it for the reliability and gas mileage, but once I started driving it, I realized that it was really quick. Even though it only has 124 hp stock, it makes up for it in weight, so it is surprisingly quick. Even without exhaust and an intake, I was flying by all hondas and non-turbo mitsubishi's. After mods, this thing is really quick.

The twin cam ingen makes it sporty. rides smooth and quite. good MPG.

Weakness:

trans is not built to withstand the horse power made by the engine. Seats are not comfotable at all. Not enough leg room.

I bought this car beacuse every one told me how reliable they are. however I have had nothing but problems from day one. I still own the car and am trying to sell it. the main problem I have with it is the transmision. my car leaked trans fluid from day one. turns out the case had a small crack in it. got that replaced. about a month later it started to not shift right. It turned out to be the valve body. saturn of fresno rebuilt it $1,400 later. I was problem free for a long while untill about a month ago, the whole damn transmision blew up with no warnig. I just got it back and $2,000 later I am tierd of the problems. I love the car when it is working. It rides smooth and quiet and has a lot of neet features.

Strength:

Cool looks! Good sound cuz I got cat-back exhaust! Gas mileage (ca. 30mpg)

Weakness:

124hp stock small back seat space (I am 6') expensive to modify (but, then again, how many souped up SC2s do you see?)

I originally wanted a V6 Camaro or Mustang, but I had to settle with an SC2. At first I wasn't too impressed, but I started modifying it, and it's high end power increased. Plus when I finally got exhaust installed, it sounded awesome. As gas prices started rising and all the Camaro, Mustang, and SUV drivers complained of high prices, I laughed in their faces. I recommend it to any car tuners.
