Strength:
Lot of room inside and in the trunk. Great acceleration. Good gas mileage. Comfortable ride.
Weakness:
Wind noise. Weak radio for a $21K + car. Brakes make a clunking noise. 3 out of 4 of my doors had a plastic insert in the door handle break that prevented the doors from opening from inside (I submitted a complaint to NTSB after Toyota refused to help or consider it a defect). Door side panels dent too easily. I had a lot of nagging body issues but because of the engine performance and the roomy interior I would still recommend this car. The other reason I bought this car was because it seats 6 people and that has come in real handy. Similar Products Used: I had a Camry. I liked the instrument panel better than the Avalon but still like all the room in the Avalon. |

Avalon XLS
Strength:
very quiet, powerful engine, very comfortable interior, large backseat, easy to use and thoughtful controls & operation
Weakness:
the dash is ugly and the outside appearance is non-descript I would recommend it. It meets our needs since our children are tall, we are sick of SUVs and my wife doesn't want to drive a station wagon. The quality issues of earlier years seem (after a month!) to have been resolved as far as rattles, squeaks, etc. Similar Products Used: several Camrys, including a Camry wagon - the Avalon is a different class of vehicle and can't really be compared, although the 92 wagon LE, with a 4 cylinder engine was luxurious, lots of space and was much less expensive & therefore a better value |

Strength:
I like car exterior styling, and paint color
Weakness:
Safety issues, air bags light goes on and off, very poor breaking. Windows and doors rattle.Have been in arbitration with toyota for 6 months over poor radio reception. Toyota dealership, will not fox problem. Drove other identical models from dealership lot, no problem, still won't fix my reception. Toyota is no longer make safe and quiaity products. Feel unsafe with air bag light going on and off, dealership can't find problem, or fix the problem, hope this does not cause accidental deployment of air bag. I wouldn't buy this car again because of the following reasons.Buyer beware of possible air bag problem, light goes on and off and dealership can not find problem. Now have brake problems, dealership says nothing is wrong. I think dealership has poor quality mechanics that can not correctly find and fix problems. Doors and windows rattle, and I paid $32,000.00. Toyota no longer stands for quiality.Paid $32,000.00, and still can not listen to my radio, reception is so poor. I have been in arbitation for over 6 months, and Gulf State Toyota, and deaership still refuse to fix radio. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
VERY quiet and smooth drive, POWERFUL ENGINE, tons of room, comfortable driving position
Weakness:
None--could not ask for more in a 25K car Got XL model with power seats. There is no better car for $25,000. Similar Products Used: Toyota Camry |

Strength:
Spacious interior & trunk. Got the bench seat which allows for more room, extra person in front when needed.
Weakness:
Hate the controls! Quality of dashboard, interior inferior to Honda. Would not buy another Toyota, would go back to my Honda/Acura! Difference in quality of the car & even repairs makes such a difference. Have had the car for 3 years, it's an ok car. Love the spacious trunk & interior. Needs work on controls, & even dashboard. Have always been a Honda owner, but they do not have a spacious car like the avalon as of yet. |

Strength:
Solid, smooth, powerful, roomy and full of features.
Weakness:
I also had a hard time with the door. Need to slam to close. Hard to pull out (view) of small parking spaces. Quite a surprise from the older Avalon Models. I chose Toyota because of the solid feel not found in others like Nissan or Honda. Nice powerful feel. So smooth and quiet, and the basic speakers are an improvement. Rear seating is very roomy even with the front pulled way back. The spaciousness can be intimidating for smaller drivers. Similar Products Used: Older Avalon and Infiniti Q45 |

Avalon XLS
Strength:
Interior room; extremely quiet even on rough surfaces; excellent handling; outstanding sound system; understated styling; tremendous value
Weakness:
doors do not close without a hard "slam"; trunk lid sounds "tinny" when closed; gas mileage could be better; should have more cup holders and storage areas for things like grage door openers We paid $28,040 for a XLS with the works (heated leather seats and mirrors, high-end CD-player with sub-woofer, power moonroof, pearl paint, etc). We only paid a few thousand more for the Avalon compared to a V-6 Camry XLE with leather. The Avalon is a "poor-mans Lexus" and is an outstanding value. we like our '98 Avalon so much we plan to trade our '96 Camry XLE in on a 2000 Avalon in a month or two!! We've been buying Toyotas from the same dealer (Gresham Toyota) for over ten years. The combination of a great dealer and a fantastic car can't be beat! Similar Products Used: Lexus GS300; Camry XLE V-6; Acura TL sedan (V-6) The Avalon in the XLS trim is a better value overall and a nice step up from the Camry |

Avalon
Strength:
Acceleration, quiet ride, smooth shifting, comfortable seats, roomy in back (main reason for purchase), good gas mileage for a v-6 (26 avg.) Good looking overall. Tight turning radius. Windows will operate after engine is turned off. Nice gold color, fit and finish nice.
Weakness:
Brake click when changing direction. Nothing can be done apparently. Weak radio. (Low end) Steering wheel seems stiff compared to other cars. No holder for garage remote. Seat belts tend to lock up. Dealer was no help on this one. Rear seat does not fold forward for ski transport. Squirting windshield with driver's window open and moving down the road give's the driver a refreshing face splash. Went thru first set of tires in 25K miles. Front end was out of allignment. XL Model, no leather, pwr buckets, gold pkg, keyless entry, floor mats, mud flaps...$23,360 + tax, lic. Yes, I would recommend it and will probably buy another one someday. Overall this has been a very good car for my wife, our dog and me. Toyota service is OK, but nothing to write home about. Similar Products Used: Honda Accord, Taurus. Faster, bigger than Accord. Far superior to Taurus. |

Strength:
The ride is smooth and quiet. Very good sound system. Excellent leg and shoulder room in front and rear.
Weakness:
Torque is very RPM dependent. Low end power is a little weak. Excellent vehicle. Compares favorably to cars costing thousands more. Excellent entry level luxury car. Roominess is a plus for tall passengers. Similar Products Used: None |
