Sharp Styling Good Stereo Outstanding Handling Great Gas Milage Brakes Stop Car Fast, Even Without ABS (anti lock brakes) Fun To Drive Lots Of Legroom

Weakness:

Dangerous Blindspots, escpically with a large spoiler. Weak jumpstart Acceleration Not a lot of room in the back seat, unles you are lacking legs.

This car is one of the best you can buy. It is made by a respectible company, and it has a good price tag. I have had this car for about (since the posting of this review) 3 days. I already have 108 miles on it. I have read other reviews that say this car is fun to drive. I never knew what that meant till i drove this beauty off the lot. I couldn't turn it off. i just kept goin till i almost got lost, then decided it was a good time to turn around. The dealership (John Crump Toyota) worked extremely well to get me this car. The car with shipping costed 22624. I had nothing to trade in, and they still gave me a deal. They gave me matts(119) and a wind deflector (129)for free, and with taxes they let me go with this car for 22978.79. Not bad. however. this car isn't all gold. It does have some downfalls. The blindspots are and extreme danger to inexperienced drivers, and a bother to good ones. also, the acceleration is lacking for such a sporty car, but will get better as you get up into the higher gears. The braking and steering are magnificient. U won't find a better handling car for this price. The standard stereo is also quite sufficient, but if you prefer to listen to hip hop, rap, or heavier rock, you may opt to install a subwoofer as the standard speakers don't hit that well. This car is a somewhat weak 4 banger, but the car only weighs 2500 pounds. That makes it a paperweight compared to other cars in it's class. It also gets great fuel milage. i have 108 miles on my first tank, and haven't passed the first quarter marker yet. all in all, about 32 miles a gallon to a 14.5 gal tank. now i am 6 foot 3 in, and i have read reviews of people shorter than i am saying that they can't fit. That was the secondmost buying factor for me. this car had ample room for me. that said, most of my height is in my legs, and the seats slide back all the way to the back seat. The rear seats are only for the shorties. They are NOT for anyone over 5'7. All in all, i love my celica. more good features than bad ones. if you prefer more passenger room, go with the toyota camry.

Good styling and speed pick-up after 60. I've gotten 33 mpg highway and about 26-28 city.

Weakness:

Read above

The car is awesome, and I'm pretty happy with it. I've had the car for over 3 years and I know what is good and isn't. Firstly - it needs more hp boost and better handling. Second - there is a rattling problem with the hardware. I've been to the dealer a few time but they can't help me. Eveytime they replace the bad part with a new one, it still rattles. These are the parts that rattle. roof, door handles, windows, and other parts in the back of the car. There is a recall on an engine part of the car, so make sure you replace it. If you get the 8 speaker deal, that aren't 8 speakers but 6 plus 2 build-in.

Sporty car with alot of pickup. The engine may be a 4 banger but it is a light car so its deceptively fast. great aggressive look especially from the front. great gas mileage (30 mpg!!!) and it handles very well. downfall is that it has a huge blindspot. cant see any other weaknesses. the styling will stand the test of time.

Strength:

the car's looks---I've put some money into it and had it painted and new mags and new interior and I keep it washed and waxed all the time. Also this car feels like an extension of me--unlike my newer Solara.

Weakness:

I wish it had more horsepower and power steering!!

My husband bought this car brand new in January of 1976. Come this January of 2004 it will turn 28 years old---my husband has owned it all this time! However, I've been driving this car exclusively for approx 20 years and I love it! It's needless to say extremely dependable---but at its age it does need a bit more mechanical pampering---no matter, its worth it. When my husband first bought this car in Jan 1976 the salesman told him that if he was careful with the car and kept the oil changed he probably could get 100,000 miles out of it! In September 1998 I had to get the engine re-built---it was nearly 23 years old and had 310,000 miles on its odometer! That was 5 years ago---I have since put another 40,000 miles on the re-built engine without a problem. In January of 2000 I bought a brand new Toyota Solara---approx $30,000---nice car but I really prefer the 76 Celica---it fits my body alot better---and the Celica gets alot more admiring stares and attention than the newer car!! go figure!!

My very first car was a 1971 Toyota Corolla. It was dependable and had decent guts and handling for its day---but it was ugly! I was ashamed of how it looked. In 1980 I bought a brand new Toyota Sport Pick-up Truck---what a lemon--I hated this truck--fortunately my husband bonded with it and smoothed the kinks out of its behavior and kept it until 1999!

EVERYTHING, namely performance, speed when I need it (can keep up with Mustang anyday), takes corners like a race car, dependable in the snow and on ice, have only had one tune-up in 8 years, just oil/filters every 3 months, religiously. Have never EVER had a mechanical problem with my Celica - NEVER! I will give my wonderful mechanic some of that credit also. He's been taking care of my foreign cars since 1976. I'm constantly being approached by people on the street asking me if I want to sell my car - they love the 1994-1999 model! I tell them - He-l NO!

Weakness:

None whatsoever!

I love my 1995 Toyota Celica GT. It's product-book "blue", but it's really a metallic periwinkle (everyone calls it purple, though). This is my 3rd Toyota (previously had an '82 Corolla and an '87 Camry). I've had the Celica for 8 years now - the longest I've ever kept a car because I would hate parting with it. It's been very good to my over the years! I've read the reviews for the 2000 to current year model and they're all bad - I would have bought another Celica if they had kept the model the same as the 1994-1999 model, but current model sucks. Can't wait to see the 2005 new model - hope to buy one next year as I'm pushing 115,000 miles on my current baby.

the look, that's it. Celica GT looks nice.

Weakness:

Performance; Mechanical problems; Air conditioner;

Toyota = Reliable Absolutely False statement for the Celica I had. At about 75000 miles, the car needs a new clutch. Then, water pump, then starter, then generator. The car put me in dangerous situation 2 times due to mechanical failures. Both times were on freeway. Once the generator failed and the engine of the car shutdown on highway 10. The other times, I was driving on highway 5 when power steering belt was broken. Air conditioner was continuously under service. Just not chill enough for Southern California. Toyota makes some decent cars. I have a Camry and had a Corrola before. Both cars work fine. But my Celica was a bad choice. Besides the mechanical problems, the performance of Celica is terrible. I have to admit, Celica GT looks sporty and nice. But it is slow compared to other 2 doors.

Strength:

Super sharp looks, very tight handling and cornering. A "FUN" car, with cramped quarters for tall people. I thought the stereo setup/sound was just fine, without the upgrade.

Weakness:

VERY poor rear, and side/rear visibilty. Cramped quarters for tall folks. Seat comfort and support wasn't good.

I only owned this car for 1700 miles (about two months). The color was "Absolutely Red", and it had the automatic. I loved the looks of this car, but traded it in quickly because...at 6'1", this car was just too small and cramped for me. I thought I kept this in mind while test driving it. But, it turned out the "living" with it was a different story. Getting in and out was a major hassle, and driving comfort wasn't there. Seats really lacked nice "cush." This NOT to knock the car! I just don't think it's suitable for larger people (unless maybe as a 2nd "fun" car). Acceleration was moderate for a 4-cyl, but the car handled corners like it was on rails. The car's appearance is very stunning and sharp...That's why I fell in love with it! The car seemed nice and tight in all ways. Visibility so far as "rear shoulder checks" and "backing up" goes was terrible though. I had the spoiler, which made it even worse. When backing up, I almost always wished I had someone outside to "guide" me around other cars. And, in the short time I had this car...A few very small paint chips were incurred on the front hood area. Not bad after such a short time, but I think this would be a major progressive problem down the road. This is all probably due to poor paint quality, as well as the low, sloped profile of the front end "catching" all kinds of road-thrown particles. A friend of ours has a 2002 Celica, and this front end paint chip problem has been significant and growing. And, she says the "Toyota Absolutely Red" touch-up paint doesn't match well. I wish I could have kept her, but we just weren't a "match." I traded it in on a 2003 Toyota Camry SE, that I'm just absolutely in LOVE with. It may not have quite the aggressive looks as the Celica, but DANG....She looks oh-so-fine to me! And what an absolute joy and comfort to drive! Wish I'da gone with Camry first! I want to thank Dave Mungenast Toyota (Alton, Illinois) for working with me on this. They understood that the Celica just "wasn't for me," and worked with me very nicely and reasonably in getting me in my now beloved Camry! If your interested in pictures, e-mail me..and I'll send pics of both the former Celica and the current Camry... vpoint@hotmail.com

Strength:

Crisp handling, very responsive. Corners well. Very fast. Almost effortless at higher speeds, you don't realize just how fast you are going! Auto dimming mirror and smart headlights are great. Foot plate on the floor is handy for bracing yourself in high speed maneuvers. Optional cargo net is very handy, as well as loops in trunk to tie down cargo with bungee cords. The driver seat can be raised and lowered, even my five foot tall girfriend can see out to drive, (if I would ever let her behind the wheel.) Great dealer support.

Weakness:

Large blind spots. Very fast. Tends to hesitate for a second when you floor it. Back seat is fit for an amputee, or maybe a couple of pet ferrets. The TRD action package option is expensive to replace when damaged. Rear TRD spoiler hinders rear view. You don't get in and out of the car so much as contort yourself in and out of it. Not recommended for the extremely tall or inflexible. The overdrive button is in a bad spot, it can be accidently disengaged at highway speeds when reaching to adjust temperature controls. After market support is a little hard to find.

Bought this car about four months ago. I am very impressed with the combination of fuel efficiency and performance. One rarely goes in hand with the other. I highly recommend this car if you like to be flashy, but don't want to support OPEC anymore than you have to.
