Strength:

Durable and most dependable. Low gas consumption. Able to speed and race.

Weakness:

Not much for the price. Seat has poor back support. Road noise.

This car was my first car, then handed down to my sister, then my brother. The way we drive, we abuse our cars. But up until now we never had any engine problem at all. The only mechanical failure was the driver side window mechanism failing after hitting a large bump on the freeway and this is after 6 years of running in perfect condition. This car is so dependable that we would take it over a 97 Camry or 99 Accord for long trips. We have a rule of keeping cars for only 4 years but this one is a definite and surprising exception. Oh yea, it is still able to reach 90mph when needed. The only complain I have about it is the flat non supportive seat but I don't know if Toyota has changed the design since then. People usually buy cheap cars because they're strapped. Well, if you're one of them it doesn't get any better than this because you won't have to get another car for at least another 8 years.

Strength:

Reliable. Solidly built compared to other cars in its class. I test drove Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. Both were 1993 vehicles and then chose the Corolla which feels like a rock on the highway.

I think Toyota Corolla is in a class on its own, and it really competes with itself.

Mine has a cup holder, automatic transmission but no A/C. It does well on gas mileage. I forgot the last time I filled the gas tank.

Weakness:

Every car has weaknesses. However, a Corolla has none related to its reliability.
It is not a race car. Do not expect to find much power. If you like a sporty acceleration, consider a BMW 3 series, but then you go up to a whole new price level.

Bought it as a certified used vehicle from a car dealer.

If you are looking for reliability and for a solidly built car that will last for a long time buy a Toyota Corolla. You get a great value for the money you pay.

Strength:

-smooth, tight ride
-nice looking exterior
-good gas mileage
-quiet cabin

Weakness:

The interior is awful. Not only is it cheap looking and cheap feeling, it is also uncomfortable. The plastics used are thin and brittle looking. I can never get comfortable. Back room is fit for a dwarf. The arm rest is cheap hard plastic. The black interior is a lint, dust, and fur trap.

The car is a nice ride but I'm very disappointed with the interior comfort and quality.

Strength:

Great milage. Only one significant repair in 7 years of perfectly reliable service. Even then it was only a $400 repair to the transmission in the 5th year.

Weakness:

Brakes are far too weak. With one passenger there is plenty of power, but with four it struggels.

Great value for the around town car, but don't take it on the autobauhn.

Model Reviewed: Corolla LE

Strength:

This is a great small car - it provides a very smooth ride and handles easily - it has a tighter turning radius than some of its competitors and I like that alot - the interior is well designed: gauges are easy to read and there are several hidden storage compartments which I really appreciate, including the cupholders. The model I got is the top Corolla and in many ways it is like a small Camry - I haven't had the car long but already I believe I am getting about 30 mpg in the city - it has a fairly good-sized trunk but a rather cramped backseat area, but since I rarely drive around with someone in the backseat this is OK - it has an outside temperature gauge which is nice to have - it has more horsepower than it's rival - the new Honda Civic and also has more torque but fewer RPMs, which my husband explained is a good thing - also, a good powertrain warranty. When backing up, the visibility is good as is when looking to eithe side.

Weakness:

Really, the only weakness I can think of is the lack of room in the backseat.

So far, I am very pleased with the '01 Corolla LE - it drives well, rides well and is great on the MPG - the size of the car is perfect for me. The engine has quite a bit of power and responds well...I have read where others consider the styling "plain" or "nondescript", in my opinion this is not so - the pictures on the internet do not do this car justice - one must see it in person to fully appreciate it -

Similar Products Used:

'86 Honda Civic Hatchback - the Corolla is ten times the car my old Honda was, however, the Honda did not have power steering, power mirrors, power windows and cruise control like my new Corolla does, so it's not really a fair comparison...but the handling is much better and it rides much smoother than my old Honda, plus the mileage is better.

Strength:

Never had any problems that were caused by the car! Unfortunately, I have had two low-speed front crashes in this vehicle and the car got me through without a scratch both times. All of the environmental controls are easy to use and effective. I really like the automatic headlights feature. Its lifetime gas-using average is 37 miles per gallon. All I do is put in gas and oil, follow the toyota maintance plan, and drive anywhere I want.

Weakness:

Shifting slows down in extreme cold, but I suppose that is to be expected.

My car has the Touring Package, which makes it look a little more sporty than a base model. It is no muscle car, but the 5-speed car has a healthy amount of acceleration for city driving. In fewer than two years, I have put 36,000 miles on it and enjoyed each one. This car was only slightly more expensive than other cars in its class, but I got it for its dependability and have not been disapointed.
