Strength:

Great car in the snow. Excellent on gas. Interior is good and the 60/40 split is great!

Weakness:

ACCELERATION IS HORRIBLE

paid 13K CAD... I would recommend it to anyone who wishes to have a very strong economical car... Too bad Toyota discontinued it for that stupid Echo!

Strength:

It just keeps going! The interior has held up well and there are no major problems with the car. The thing is an animal in the snow! I have never gotten stuck in 7 years.

Weakness:

It could use some more power but it does quite well for a little econo car. It is starting to burn a bit of oil in its old age. The gas milage has gotten worse these last few years, but it still gets about 25 mpg.

I paid 9k in 1993 when it only had about 6k miles on it. I would recomend this car to anyone that is looking for an economical car that you don't have to kep on fixing to keep it running. The car now has over 180,000 miles on it and it is still running great! We almost never have to take it to the shop and it has always been reliable. The paint still looks new even though we leave it parked outside all year round. A great car for a teenager or anyone that is watching there pocket book. Don't buy this car if you need something that has a lot of power or at least get a stick shift model.

Strength:

-Gas mileage
-Doesn't use much oil

Weakness:

- eats thermostats for breakfast, lunch and dinner
- strange engine noises
- seats are real pieces of crap
- stock paint sucks

I payed $2000 for my 1992 Tercel. It has 80K on it and doesn't use a drop of oil. The 93 HP engine is loud at high RPM's but is a good economy car. Good commuter car!

Strength:

Gas economy is excellent. It is awsome on snow, a real fun car. Split back seat and I can fit 201cm skiis in that machine. So far 100k mileage and is running nicely

Weakness:

The doors stick as you try to close or open them, the lube went away fast. High wind noise on highway.

I paid $15,000ca standard with air conditioning and stereo... A very good reliable car. HAve not had to take it in for anything. Never used the warranty on it. they did an excellent job on the final finish. I am still on original tires after 100k and they still holding. Excellent car a bit lacking on power. A definite recomend for a commuter

Strength:

So far indestructable. . . . also was first car out after the blizzard. While the SUVs where trying to track down to blacktop we drove up and over the embankment! not bad for a little car.

Weakness:

Uncomfortable . . . always feel like you are sitting at an angle. Little do-dads fell apart quickly . . like cover over stick shift, cigarette lighter . . etc. Nothing major, but little annoyances. Seat (vinyl) ripped within two years.

I paid 7800 in summer of 1991. This little car has been excellent for price paid, very reliable, and has kept one large dog and one small child safe and secure. It shifts very easily (I didn't know how) and for having manual steering, turns aren't tough thanks to the smaller wheel. I love it . . just fix the angle of the seats and make it a little comfier!

Strength:

Its keeps going and going, although I have had some recent repairs. At 80,000 I had to replace a shorted alternator, then at 85000 the heater blower ( labor was very expensive ). I wonder if it was the blower motor that fried the alternator. The AC still works like a champ, it has never been recharged. It runs good and I have only tuned it up once. It gets 28 to 38 miles per gal depending on conditions. I do drive it in Atlanta traffic and up to 85 to 90 mph. I have had one accident, I T-boned a Ford Ranger that ran a red light at about 20mph. Result, $1300 in repairs.
The car is great for one person. I commute 50 miles daily now. I have recently noticed the drivers side CV joint is getting noisy. I love the car for shopping and getting back and to work. It parks almost anywhere. Just don't hit anything, man it hurts!

Weakness:

I am 6 foot tall and I get really cramped up after about 2 hours in the thing. It is a noisy and very busy ride. It hydro-planes in very heavy rain at 55mph unless you have fresh rubber on the pavement, or the car is loaded down with 3 people. DON'T put your friends in the back for a long ride, they might not be your friends after the ride. I don't know why Toyota bothered putting a rear seat in. I wish the gas tank held more than 11 gals of gas. I could use the fuel weight to asist in preventing rear hydro-planeing. The speakers dry rotted at 50,000. The radio needless to say died shortly afterwards. It does not matter, a boombox does the trick. The car is great, just keep clean oil in it and burn 93 octane and it will keep runnng, and running, running.... My bother has 275,000 on his Toyota cheese box.

It lacks power and but for $7800 which was the dealer sticker price when I bought it, it is a super great deal. If you are a penny pincher and need cheap and highly realiable ride, the Tercel fits the bill.

Strength:

I think it actually handles quite well except for when it gets bumpy. Power Steering is really smooth. Not too much maintenance. It has the best turning radius known to man, i can do a u-turn standing almost. (that wouldnt be true with manual steering) Easy to park. Good gas milage, just be careful about the engine speed, because my car's idle speed gets too high sometimes and it lowers your gas milage 3 or 4 mpg. Gets you from A to B. Reliable.

Weakness:

IT HAS NO FRIGGIN POWER. (78 hp) I like fast cars but this is toooooo slow. Hills are my enemy. With more than 2 people in the car, the horsepower goes down rapidly. Alternator died on the 101 fwy in rush hour traffic while i was on my way to a trade show. The a/c has never worked (i havent got it checked out though) Makes a lot of noises. The friction point on the clutch is too low so it makes the car real hard to drive over speed bumps and in traffic. Air filter gets real dirty real fast, ive replaced it 3 times already (in 30k miles) Lots of tuning required to keep the mpg where it should be. Speakers were dead when i bought it. Takes years for the heater to work. No Tachometer. The seatbelts in the rear should be in an airplane seats because the are hard to figure out.

I bought the thing with 108k miles for $2000. Which i thought was a great deal (although I bought it in Compton which was scary) The right front headlight was gone and the instrumentation lights werent working. All of that got replaced. The alternator got replaced as well as the battery. Ive almost got 140k miles on it and those were the only problems with it. I kept it very clean and the vinyl dash looks great especially when you put some armor all on it. I love my car (i call it TT) and it gives me less headaches then all of my friends cars put together. I actually got it up to 105mph one time albeit the engine was really whining. I cant believe i got a speeding ticket with it though. I mean cmon, the thing is slow. Good value and still running well.

Strength:

space(no friends ask for rides with tiny back seat- plus for teen!)
gas mileage
carborator makes it easy to give more power
lasts a long time 168k and running strong
beautiful tranny (5 sp)
decent sound system

Weakness:

no power (stock 78 hp)
engine seals going and it smells like sh*t when i start it up
room- if you put a friend in the back seat they wont be your friend by the end of the ride
tiny tires have little traction

this is a great car for a new driver. you dont have to worry about having a bunch of people yelling while your driving. pigs (our countries "finest" fat doughnut eating pigs)do not see this thing. you can pull any move as long as you keep the muffler on. i put a lot of stuff on it (big tires, two barrel carb, big front tires, headers) performance parts designed for honda civics fit perfectly on this engine, making upgrades really easy. mine has about 200 hp and does a 5.4 second 0-60 and a quarter mile in about 11 seconds, and still gets 26 mpg. i love this car!!
