Strength:

-great fuel mileage 37mpg
-smooth on highway
-decent acceleration for a low power engine
-great 4 speed manual transmission
-smooth clutch
-good air conditioning

Weakness:

Long trips are kinda uncomfortable. There is no clock, side view mirror, no day night function on inside mirror, no fold down seat, no floor mats, not even a little "Tercel" sticker on the rear trunk lid, just says Toyota.
The passenger side seat belt bangs against the body when on the freeway when the windows are rolled down, so i gotta buckle it when no one is sitting there. The 'carpet' is just felt and beach sand is never gonna come out. Doesnt take corners as well as my Corvair.

I would highly recommend a Tercel to anyone. I got the car because I drive a company owned truck for Pizza delivery and we drive that thing into the ground, no problems at all! Its a Toyota, so I figured I might look at a small Toyota. I like the Shape of the 96 Tercel, its like a mini BMW 3 series! Its cute and its peppy and very solid. Too bad they had to make it look like a cheap car using the floor covering and that tacky shifter cover. I paid too much money for this used Tercel ( $ 8,850 w/ 18.05 apr= too much money ) but I liked the car that much. It will last forever, if taken care of and driven normally. Good job Toyota, too bad you screwed up by getting rid of the Tercel for that Echo.

1988 Mazda 626, was a good car, much bigger than Tercel, but I like the Tercel over the Mazda.
1960 Chevy Corvair, I still have this, I got the Tercel to ease a bit up on using the Corvair alot....The Corvair handles better than the Tercel so I drive the Tercel slower and dont drive as aggressivly in it. Even the Corvair has a fold down rear seat and actual carpet on the floors. Steering in Corvair is better.
1992 Mazda 323, this car was ok, a little better equipped than the Tercel, but didnt seem as reliable. I only had that for a few months.

Strength:

Handles very well. Great on gas. Stereo is fine if you don't have a lot of people in the car talking. Peppy.

Weakness:

As soon as 200 lbs + gets into my car, it just has no guts what so ever! I also think the only reason I like the pep is because it's standard, so even with the whimpy horsepower, it's still okay.

I paid $7995.00 CAD for my car, and it's ran great. I love how cheap it is on Gas. This is the perfect car for me right now because I drive to work and back every day, with the occasional trip to see my parents (30 minutes away) and back. I don't drive it a lot, but it definitely get's me to where I am going. I find that overall it's just a better ride if I don't have any passengers. Less noise, better handling, better ride - that sort of thing.

Good gas mileage, 4-door

Weakness:

Noisy engine, terrible radio, no AC, one back seatbelt doesn't work, doesn't handle turns very well, uncomfy seats, and the driver/passenger seatbelts are annoying!

Paid $3500. It gets me where I need to go, although I am reluctant to take it on the freeway.

Strength:

Wonderful gas mileage, handling is great, very low-cost mait.

Weakness:

Vinyl seats ripped when car was only 3 years old. (Bought it used in 1997)Carpeting wore thru under clutch. Interior is black and since it is a base model, there is no a/c and it gets like a little oven in the summertime.

Overall, I love my little car. I can put in the extras that I want over time and not have to pay out hundreds of dollars in payments for a more expensive newer car. I can haul assorted friends in it with more room than it appears to have from the outside.

Strength:

Fuel Economy!!Can go 2 weeks on $7.oo.Handling,AC, well layed out controls,easy 5 spd stick,great clutch,soft seats.

Weakness:

Engine,82 horsepower doesn't cut it,bad suspension,valves,cvs,small tires,factory radio sucked so bad,not enough head room,back seat belts never worked,etc.etc.etc.

I'm writing this review for people on a budget who just want to buy a car outright for a couple of thousand or for the parent wanting to buy a car for the high school student.I've owned a 1982 tercel and got 198,000 miles off it; so i thought i would buy a 1991 tercel outright for about 3500 with 88K miles on it.I changed the oil,had tune-ups etc and had mechanic check it out before i bought it and was comfortable with buying it.Well, year one i had to replace the brakes twice, adjust the ac compressor,CV joints craked and leaked so both had to be replaced, needed new tires, and worst of all 2 valves completely burned out.total repair cost now is around 2500 and needless to say i'm just getting rid of it for 500 and move on.The moral of my story:pay the extra and get a decent prism/civic/escort you'll win in the long run.If you do buy a tercel make sure you get it thoroughly chacked out and most importantly get a compression test and the cv's checked or you'll be at the mechanic staring at a huge repair bill!! Peace.

Strength:

What I like is that the a/c is very cold and the heat is very hot i like also how the trunk is very large and can take alot of things in there. Also there are a lot of aftermarket products to make the car go faster to find them go to http://www. tercelonline.com

Weakness:

They vinyl seats broke after 2 years. And certain parts are very expensive such as struts.

I have put so many aftermarket products on my car to make it go faster and improve handling. I have raced this car before and I have won. I have taken out CIVICS, CRX'S, ACCORDS, CAVALIERS..... If the car is maintained properly you can have this car for a long time. Right now my car stands at 435hp 0-90 in 6 seconds it has twin turbos, intake, exhaust, rims, coilovers, cross slotted rotors, body kit, wing, airdams this car eats vtecs for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Strength:

Very dependable, low maintenance car.

Weakness:

Not good enough gas mileage(22-25) for such a weak engine(1.5L, 0-60 in about 18 seconds). Front axles went bad every year.

I paid $1300 for it in 1992 and sold it for $1100 in 1995. My total maintenance expense for those 3 years was about $400. I would recommend it to anybody as a cheap, reliable car, but not as a fun, sporty car.

Strength:

It has good handling. Comes with 4 tires and a steering wheel.

Weakness:

It's small, slow, chubby and ugly. Comes with roaches.

This car sucks. It really does, it's very small so it's not a family car, it's slow so it's not sporty. And it vibrates . The car started on fire two days after I bought it and killed my kid.

Strength:

Very economical and it has a great performance for a 1.5DOHC motor. Because it's Toyota you never have to take it to the shop. My father has a 1995 model and it is in a great condition. It has lot of cup holders also.

Weakness:

It is noisy on the inside and the suspension is a piece of crap. Not a lot of extras like power windows or sunroof.

I paid $12,800 in 1999 and I think is worth the money. I recommend it to anyone that is interested in economy and service.

Strength:

just roled to 230K miles. plenty of power for such a small engine (i've got a standard). good to excelent gas milage I average about 25-30mpg city and 35-40mpg high way (mom gets 30-35 city). good driving range...I get 300+ miles city on a tank and 350-400+ HW. payed $600 for it 2 or 3 years ago; everything worked well..a/c, defrost, tape deck and radio, everything. also when I locked my keys in the car my best friends (1985)Toyota corolla key could unlock any door and start the car up if needed (good thing i trusted him:) pleanty of room for stuff w/ the hatchback very little rust for being an ohio/michigan car for over 10 years. also dosent burn any oil (i check it once every 4-6 montyhs lol)also a very small car...can zip in and out of traffic easy. pulled the utility trailer full of lugage and furniture from Michigan to Florida no problem...even though all the mountians.

Weakness:

a/c finaly died...needs a new compressor, tape deck and radio finaly died too. rear hatch is rusting around the rear window, still not bad for an ohio car. the gas gauge is dead...good thing your have a good 60+mile notice w/ the gas light. leaks some break fluid (gota get the lines fixed) and leaks the power steering fluid like mad (i just had the rack fixed so it'd just the fluid lines...dad and i gota fix them. looks kinda ugly (go fig...it's from the 80s)
also on interstates it tops out around 70-80 mph

i payed 600 a 2-3 years ago...i would highly recomend any of the toyota line...may not be the newest thing out but it runs...unfortanly the don't have the trecell...replaced by the echo (ugliest thing i've ever seen) but if it's got the toy logo it's gota be a good runner...i've never seen a more reliable car...230k and still running stong. that speaks for it self

1992 geo prizm it's the same thing as a toyota carolla...good car...runs like a toy should...less inside noise and quieter engine, smoother ride...less gas milage and things have gone wrong w/ it more so than my car (it's my finace's)
1987 plymoth horizon about the same ride quialitys...seemed smaller (not sure if it's imagination) things (sterio and A/C died quicker also...but hey it was still runing at 200k miles :)
1983 GMC suburban (not sure if it's a real comparison)i learned to drive on this thing...it's a lot biger than even the new ford excursion...huge 6.2 desial 4wd had absolutley no power for starts but it could haul anything...it's my perents car now :( but drives much the same as far as power steering and such.
