Strength:

-Awesome in the winter
-great shifting
-the best heating i ever saw
-great MPG
-easy to fix
-reliable

Weakness:

-fogs up easy
-kinda slow, nothing alittle tuning cant fix
-wont fit too many people

Let me tell you about Chassie. She is the only one out of my friends cars that hasnt broken. She keeps on trucken, and i cant beleive that i even thought of selling it! I just bought a 400 dollar wing for it. In the winter time, its like its summer time, best grip of any car i have ever seen. It shifts very easy (5 speed). Ive beat on this car soooooo much, even took it field bombing a few times, and still holds up like it where just made! I dont care if it looks like crap, and if you put alittle work into it, it wont, it will last longer then anything. i love this car so much, and what great speakers it has! No rust, few dents. Its got 119,000 and still does not burn oil. Its my first car, and what a great car it has been, allways started, never failed me. You can take your cool expensive cars and SHOVE em, cuz they'll break down and ill laugh. Tercels are the best, id would buy 50 of these. If your looking for a cheep car that will get you whre you want to go everytime, id recommend this.

Strength:

Reliable
Great gas mileage

Weakness:

Had to repplace the muffler three times
I wouldn't buy a black, vinyl interior again because of the heat factor

I absolutely adore my Tercel. I bought her in August 1989, and she recently turned over 200,000 miles..this time next week, the odometer will read 201,000. I am still driving with the original clutch, although from time to time I must add a little bit of clutch fluid to the reservoir. Aside from the usual routine maintenance...replace batteries, tires, oil, mufflers, etc., my biggest expenses have been one brake job, the replacement of the power steering rack about four years ago, the replacement of an engine seal, the replacement of the driver's side window (I was the victim of one of those infamous smash and grab robberies in South Florida), and replacement of my trunk lock after someone broke into the trunk. There is no rust on my car, although the paint has faded quite a bit. This car has been through "thick and thin" with me, and I intend to keep her until she takes her last breath. If Toyota were still manufacturing Tercels, I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

Strength:

Dependability and Economy.

Weakness:

Comes with no outside mirror. I should have added one by now.

I highly recommend the Tercel. 36-41 MPG on highway, depending on speed. On long trips I drive about 70 most of the time. I bought it in 1993 with 14,000 miles on it. Stripped down model. I added A/C and radio/cassette. Now has 124,000 miles. Starting to use oil. Fun to drive. Has never let me down.

Since you can no longer buy new Tercels, my next car will probably be a Corolla.

If you want a no-frills car for cheap, dependable, transportation this is for you.

Strength:

how can you beat it for the money? $8000.00 for the stripped down model (did have a tape deck), 4 speed, no AC. Drove it to California 2 months after buying it. Now has 120,000 miles on it and shows no signs of stopping!

Weakness:

Started to burn through oil around 110,000 miles. Had to replace clutch at around 70K miles (first clutch I ever had). Normal wear and tear on brakes. The tape deck crapped out at 40K miles and even though I had the extra warranty (which you should NEVER need with a Toyota) they refused to cover it as it was not a "Toyota" part (says Toyota but actually was a Panasonic). Also, dealerships will rob you for repairs on these.

If you don't have a lot of cash to spend and want something completely reliable and financially smart - buy a tercel. You can't get them new anymore, but the Echo is basically the same car. Parts do not run that much for them, but are getting harder to find since they are no longer made.

Similar Products Used:

I'd love to get the Echo but they are too small and I have outgrown the Tercel. Gas mileage is terrific and handling in snow unbelievable. I love(d) this car. Too bad she is going off to a new family when the Jeep Cherokee comes next week......

Strength:

Its easy to drive, and it's very good and small for someone who isn't so big. It's very reliable, and a cute car. I can get you from one place to another.

Weakness:

It's slow, my car goes up to 75 mph and starts to shake, and then the engine starts to smell like burnt rubber or some kind of burning stinch.

The car is very good for a beginner driver. It's small, and easy to handle. I stated out driving another car, and it was a little hard, but when I got my Tercel it was very easy, but it's slow. I like fast cars, but, the car suits me.

It's as good as any Toyota cars.

Strength:

Strengths? thats pretty funny cause i can't find a damn strength in it

Weakness:

-burns oil only has 180000 km
-struggles to start
-huge carberation problems
-when i floor it it actually slows down!!!!
-Hills are its enemy
-Slowest thing on the road
-0-60 in 5 minutes
-only works good when the engine is cold
-When it warms up it runs like a piece of sh!t

It has spent most of its time that i've had it in the shop. i've had it for 7 months and its been in the shop for 4 months the mechanic cant fix it this is the most worthless car in the world. It needed a new carberateur and it turns out that there was 8 different ones that came out that year so the mechanic had one hell of a time experimenting. If anyone drives behind me that is one foul smell.

Strength:

Good in the snow and awsome fuel economy

Weakness:

SLOW AS HECK!!!! This car has the worst acceleration of any car that I have ever seen. Reliability of the car sucks and I only have 49,000 miles on it. Toyota makes a good car, except for the tercel. Another thing that should be pointed out. Who puts a manual transmission in a car and does not put a tachometer or at least a shift light? What were you thinking toyota?

Total waste of money. I stongly suggest that you look for a better car, like honda or subaru.

*It is a standard transmission so it has good pick up(for racing etc)* *good on gas *small, so you can cut quickly when driving*

Weakness:

*only a 1.5 litre 12 valve engine* *slow, 80hp...but 85hp after i dropped a performance air filter* *vinyl seats ripped( bought like that* *the wheels are only 13 size rim and the tires are too narrow, equals not too good of a handling unless you get performance rims *no tachometer*

its ok to get me through highschool and university....after i am done uni i will buy a better new car

Model Reviewed: Toyota Tercel

Strength:

It is quick, easily maneuverable and has some mean breaks. Very reliable car and I think (and I hope I'm not alone on this one) that it looks pretty cool. It has nice trunk space, great mpg, and just all around good transportation. The interior has held up very well. This car sells is 4 figures, and is a great bargain.

Weakness:

No power at all. Could definitely use a 4th gear. It has something like 93 horsepower, and it could use some more. I haven't wrecked in it but I suppose that if I do, it would hurt very badly, considering the small size. Also, on a windy day, this car blows all over the road. Other than that, it is a fine automobile.

Well my experiences with my Tercel have been very good and I have no regrets in the purchase. I would recommend this car to anyone who wants some reliable transportation. The body design is great (with exception, of course, to the horrendous design of the wheels) and the interior is comfortable and easily maintainable. I love my Tercel!
