Volkswagen Jetta (2005 - 2010) Midsize | Compact

Volkswagen Jetta (2005 - 2010) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The fifth generation Volkswagen Jetta Mk5 debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show on 5 January 2005. One major change to the Mk5 is the introduction of the first multi-link independent rear suspension in a VW Jetta.

Styling reflects a new direction for the Volkswagen brand, with a new chrome front grille, first seen on the Golf Mk5 R32, which has since spread to other Volkswagen models.

The Jetta available in the U.S., is powered by a 2.5 litre 5-cylinder 20-valve engine in most trims. In North America, the Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) diesel engine was not offered in five U.S. states when the Mark 5 Jetta was introduced, due to the tight emission standards promulgated by the California Air Resources Board. In addition to California, four other states adopted the more stringent California standards.

Strength:

Runs Great I have over 50,000 mls on it. The only maintainance I have had to do except for the interior have been a serpentine belt, battery, oil changes, changed the spark plugs once, air filter, fuel filter regular stuff. Volkswagons are great cars but if you dont keep up the maintance you wil be on the side of the road.

Weakness:

cupholder, windows, glovebox

I have had this car for 8mths. I bought it at a used dealer with 42,000. It runs great, handles great, looks great. Although has alot of small cosmetic problems cd player turns up when I try to turn it down, the windows fall out. I have replaced my driverside and passengerside window already. The cupholder broke, the hinge on the glovebox broke other than that the car is great. All the people writing bad reviews saying the parts are to expensive for repairs- duh you bought an imported car-

Strength:

What strengths? I can't see past all the bad that has happened in only 1 year.

Weakness:

Poor workmanship

This car sucks. I had to take time off from work one time too many to fix something. First the power adapter, then there was a recall on something (I forgot), then the window fell into the door, then the signal lights weren't working, then most recently the car would not move from the park position (break switch stuck). Imagine baking in the hot sun in a Miami parking lot trying to get your car to move. My friend told me to expect the battery to go next and that will cost about $200+ to replace. Great! Just Great! I except all this trouble from a used car not a brand new car. That's why I bought a new car, thinking I would be fine for at least 5 years. I'm really annoyed, not to mention that I always have to wait for my car (2-3 hrs) because it's my first and one and only car. I am very disappointed in Volkswagen, very disappointed. I have every intention to write a letter to the corporate office.

Strength:

speed, handling, 17" wheels, abundance of airbags

Weakness:

coils, velour

The car has performed like a champ so far, fast, looks great for the money, decent gas mileage, and has been maintenance free up to this point at 15K. After reading other reviews on this site you can bet I will be finding out more on this coil problem. But otherwise a really nice car. Knock on wood, bottom line - It seems as though VW is finally owning up to the coil problem, and don't be scared to buy a Jetta 1.8T it handles and drives great, but the velour does suck, get the leather it is worth the 1K extra.

Strength:

Good on gas and sharp styling

Weakness:

Drinks Oil No power- the slowest car on the hwy Cramped interior Uncomfortable for drives longer than 45 minutes Extremely loud engine noises Monsoon Stereo is weak Too many VW quality issues that are considered "normal" ie. Airmass sensor failure, locked rear calipers, oil consumption

I would not recommend this car- VW has too many bugs that are considered "normal and acceptable" that are not covered by the pathetic warranty. Additionally, while this car is economical and stylish, you sacrifice comfort and performance.

UNRELIABLE!!! Although it handles very well and is fun to drive at times, the car has had more problems than my Toyota from '92. I go in for service almost every month sometimes several times a month. Definitely not worth the time or the valuable money.

Very UNRELIABLE!!!!!!!! Although they handle well and are fun to drive, I have never had a car that had so many problems with it, especially when its brand new. I take it to service for something almost every month sometimes several times a month. Waste of time and valuable money.

Strength:

Different design, Zippy, GREAT trunkspace,

Weakness:

Weird clutch, bogges down when fully loaded, hard to find parts, ignition coil

I have had this car for about a year now and so far it has been great. I am sixteen going on seventeen and as a teenager I beat the living Cr*p out of this car on a daily basis. so far the only things that have gone wrong are: 1 the bumper fell off( I found out Jettas dont do serious off roading and the previous owner had broken it first, but it was only $90) 2, brakes needed replacing, 3 oil pan possibly needs to be replaced after i accidentaly got the car airborn and came down on the pan itself, also took out power steering but it was a five min fix, 3, the ignition coil needs replacing (car stalls when it is moist or wet outside). other than that I chanage the oil every few thousand miles and keep it in shape and it still runns like a dream although the new coil is about $130 but it shouldnt be a big problem. Some of my freinds complain about the seats but they seem fine to me at 6 foot 2 inches. The trunk is large enough to hold about two of my freinds and we have succesfully gotten 12 peaple in the car before. The clutch is kind of weird. there is a lot of travel in it but you get used to it. so if your into serious off roading, DONT BUY! Otherwise this is a great little car that as far as I can tell takes a beating and keeps on going strong. Trust me, this car grows on you.

Strength:

Fun to drive, great handling, powerful engine, great looks and excellent sound system.

Weakness:

Mediocre dealer service, rear brakes wear too early, so-so gas mileage for size of car and a bit too tight for a growing family.

I've truly enjoyed driving this car since I bought it used 2 yrs ago. It looks great and the sound system sounds great also. One downside is the very tight back seats... having a child in a carseat kicking the back of the front seats is not comfortable. Premium fuel requirement is also a pain. Dealer service has been okay and I thankfully had purchased an extended warranty which paid off when the starter had to be replaced at only 35,000 miles. Rear brakes also had to be replaced shortly after that - not covered.
