Volkswagen Jetta (2005 - 2010) Midsize | Compact

Volkswagen Jetta (2005 - 2010) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The fifth generation Volkswagen Jetta Mk5 debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show on 5 January 2005. One major change to the Mk5 is the introduction of the first multi-link independent rear suspension in a VW Jetta.

Styling reflects a new direction for the Volkswagen brand, with a new chrome front grille, first seen on the Golf Mk5 R32, which has since spread to other Volkswagen models.

The Jetta available in the U.S., is powered by a 2.5 litre 5-cylinder 20-valve engine in most trims. In North America, the Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) diesel engine was not offered in five U.S. states when the Mark 5 Jetta was introduced, due to the tight emission standards promulgated by the California Air Resources Board. In addition to California, four other states adopted the more stringent California standards.

Within one month of buying this car new (purchase..not leased)the whole 5-speed transmission failed on a busy highway in Scottsdale. I had barely 2,000 miles on the car and had to wait 3 hours in 115 degree heat for a tow. Berge VW of Gilbert examined the car and told me it would not be covered under warranty because of excessive wear on the clutch! What a crock of ...!!! After much haggling the supervisor called me 2 hours and said they would cover the repairs under warranty. Last friday the same thing happpend in exactly almost the same way with this car. Now the manager Chapman VW of Scottsdale said that it would not be covered under warranty and that the repairs would come to $2,425. I tried to call VW headquarters about this nightmare lemon I was sold and no response.
VW's are assembled in Mexico and apparently there is a serious lack of quality control! Also, VW does not honor its warranty and could care less about customer satisfaction!!!!!
I have owned 5 speed manuals all driving life and have never encountered such a nightmare as this car....BEWARE BUYER.. OR YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF IN THE SAME BOAT SOONER OR LATER...PROBABLY SOONER!!

Anyone even contemplating buying a new or used VW should absolutely READ THIS...to avoid the horrible nightmare that I am dealing with right now!!!

Fuel Economy. Lenght of oil changes. Quick, nimble and responsive. Very predictable. No mechanical issues

Weakness:

Small. Not a lot of room for a 6'2" male with a baby seat in back seat. Not a lot of trunk space.

I have had this car for 1.5years. Bought used with 100,000km. I now have 260,000kms. Other than regular oil changes. I have had no problems. The car has needed the injectors to be replaced for over 9 months now and car is still staring and driving like barnd new. No issues at this time. Would buy again.

DEVIL CAR! this was my dream car- beautiful leather seats, heated seats, sunroom, sweet stereo, power everything, turbo engine, fully loaded! amazing car!

a friend said to me- who works as a mechanic- that i should sell it before it gets to 50000 miles because jettas fall apart. i thought he was crazy because it was made by the famous german engineering standards..
by 40,000 miles everything failed. oneday, the brakes didnt work- the brake computer malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. that scared me to death. another day, the windows wouldnt open. the computer that controlled that died too. a month later while i was driving on a highway, the entire car died!!!! i could have died!!!! after i called AAA, it randomly started up after about 10 mins. Every light that could possibly go off on the dashboard went off, sometimes for no reason. had to change the brake pads because of some brake problems, had to have more tuneups done to that car than should have needed. the worst part- apart from nearly dying- were the idiots that worked at VW- they acted like they had no clue. i asked the manager at one point if he knew what a jetta looked like. my car spent weeks and weeks in the garage while they ordered new computers. they rape you on the fees. another annoying thing is that all the keys have computer chips in them, and each time after they repaired my car, i had to give them ALL my keys so they could reprogram them. one time they didnt and when i went to drive it the cars alarm went off and nothing i could do would stop it. VW said that the car didnt recognize the key and that ONLY they can reset it, another scam. and in the meantime, i couldnt even drive my damn car. ITS A NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!! DO NOT BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!! NO MATTER HOW COOL AND NICE THEY ARE!!!!!! NO MATTER HOW GREAT THEY DRIVE!!!!!!!!! ITS A MISTAKE!!!!!!!

Strength:

I've had this car for so long (over seven years) it's a part of me now.
It just will not quit!

Weakness:

Compared to larger cars it's a bit loud inside on the highway.
I think my Golf was more practical, the hatchback fit more large-sized cargo with the seat put down.

I bought this car with 190,000kms on it,
now it has over 350,000kms.
I've driven it hard through all types of Canadian weather and it's never let me down. I get it serviced about 3 times a year and I've had to replace a battery, some exhaust pipes, and have it patched underneath. That and a few other small replacements through the years is a small price to pay for the years of reliability I've enjoyed.

Weakness:

Anything plastic on the car!!!!!!!!!

After wreaking my 1991 Ford Escort Station Wagon, I was trilled to get a Jetta. After about a month of having it, some type of belt broke and had to be replaced. Then the glovecompartment broke (the door is $120 if you replace it yourself), next the back cup holders/ash tray, then the front cup holder, the random spring undernath the drivers seat, the front ash tray, the front lighter (even though its hooked up... so it should work, but it doesnt) and the check engine light keeps coming on and off. There is also a funny odor that always is present when you have the heat or air on. Speaking of the AC good luck getting it to work... Oh yes and the front bumper, like others have said its a piece of poo. And the windows if part of them are open you can't hear anything.

Strength:

Diesel, Diesel, Diesel.. VW is the only company with enough balls to put a decent diesel in a car.

Got to love that Turbo whine!

Weakness:

Small squeaks and rattles, has a few small quirks. But that is why I love the car so much. Do all the maintance myself, not a car for person who runs to the dealership over everything.

It NEEDS a 6 speed to get mid 55 MPG!

As with any car it isn't perfect, but close.

I bought it for the mileage and it is GREAT! I have 115K and average 49.1 MPG over that time.

Cant find a better commuter can than this. Nice car for the long haul and plan on keeping it anohter 130+K.

It's JETTA!!!

Jetta was like a sweet dream car until 30k miles and then it turned into a nightmare. I had to replace brakes due to pre-mature wear, then the "check engine" light came on, replaced MAF Sensor, brocken window regulator, O2 sensor. The annoying rattling sound from dashboard, doors, the awful smell from vents....too many *&^% parts going wrong even when I did all my scheduled maintence on time. My VW Dealer machenic told me not to worry about it, he seen it all on Jetta models and told me that it will cost me alot more money tryin to fix all, and also told me when the check engin light starts to blink then I should start worrin.....Well, It started to blink few weeks ago due to Misfiring in the engine cylinder #6 & #3, possible ignition coil failing, possible Cat converter failing, Secondary Air Injection Valve OPen, What the %^&*. ...My VW machenic is a real &*^% P_I_M_P. I finally got rid off it by trading in for a Honda Accord. I am rescued from potential disaster. I have saved from further loss of my $$$ and mind. It was like having an ugly high-maintence girlfriend finally going away to THE JUNK YARD!!!!
