Volkswagen Jetta (2005 - 2010) Midsize | Compact

Volkswagen Jetta (2005 - 2010) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The fifth generation Volkswagen Jetta Mk5 debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show on 5 January 2005. One major change to the Mk5 is the introduction of the first multi-link independent rear suspension in a VW Jetta.

Styling reflects a new direction for the Volkswagen brand, with a new chrome front grille, first seen on the Golf Mk5 R32, which has since spread to other Volkswagen models.

The Jetta available in the U.S., is powered by a 2.5 litre 5-cylinder 20-valve engine in most trims. In North America, the Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) diesel engine was not offered in five U.S. states when the Mark 5 Jetta was introduced, due to the tight emission standards promulgated by the California Air Resources Board. In addition to California, four other states adopted the more stringent California standards.

Strength:

Most Bang for the buck at the time that I bought it. Loaded with features, heated seats, heated mirrors, nice leather, 10 speaker BOSE system, tons of torque, etc.

Weakness:

Expensive to fix simple things. I have had no problems through 50k miles...great I just jinxed myself.

I bought this car new in November 1997 fully loaded. I absolutely love it. I have always been performance oriented but I needed some space in a car. Huge trunk, decent back seats for a small car. The performance is nice. A high center of gravity gives it some body lean in hard turns but it handles like the much larger (and heavier) 5 series BMW. If you throw it hard into a turn it levels off and carves well. The power is great...always have torque available for passing. I was crazy enough to take it all the way to the speed limiter at approx. 130mph once....rock solid except for the fact that it is a square car....wind is a tad scary.

I get about 24-26mpg in mixed driving 26-29mpg on the highway at 75-80mph. For a VR6 that's not bad at all.

Great Car...oh and I have never gotten poor service from my dealer.

Strength:

I love the car's handling, power, and feel. i couldn't tell that i was in a 90 hp car. it accelerates much faster than i thought. going through the turns with this car is a dream. I guess it's all the torque the car has (155 FT/LBS). this is truely a driver's car. the Baltic Green paint is awesome, and i've never seen another jetta with the same color (it is new for 2001). Very quiet for a desiel.

Weakness:

other than the salesman being lazy and semi-incompitant, none so far.

I think i paid a little much, but i got a great car and got rid of a POS. I love to go out and drive this car. most of the time i don't even have the Monsoon sterio on because it takes away from the desiel. I've read what others have said and i hope that my car won't be like that but only time will tell.

Strength:

Wonderful reliability. Low cost maintenance. Inexpensive to operate. Great handling. Great space for a larger person (6'3"

Weakness:

2nd gear is gone (grinds regularly). No space for a pop larger than a can. Expensive to repair. I had just the grill pushed in and it cost me $700.

This is a great car for someone who runs around everywhere. If you want something more than just to drive to work, then this is a great car. It is definitely fun to drive!

Looks great!! Fun to drive!!

Weakness:

Ok here is the story bumper to bumber warranty only good for 24,000 miles. If anything goes wrong with the interior (which it will!!) That is only covered up to 12,000 miles. The floor mats are cheap. the springs under my seats suddenly came off. My transmission broke on me at 25,000 miles and I was stranded. Had to pay for rental car. Thank god for the power train warranty. I live in Dallas there are 4 dealers in the area. ALL OF THEM SUCK!! VW acts like they care at first THEY DON'T!! I heard someone say that while its under warrenty they can't find anything wrong when you have a problem. If I hear that we use Mcpherson Struts one more time!!!

Good price, Good gas mil. , Would recomend if warranty was better

Model Reviewed: VW Jetta 1.8T

Strength:

I LOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVE the sound of the turbo kicking in. I recently installed a coil-over suspension and the car rides really nice. The lowered suspension is shockingly soft...it hasn't affected the smooth ride. The vehicle corners like it's on rails. Also got some 18" wheels on it...car is awesome. The interior is very nicely finished...doesn't look cheap. I really like the guages in blue...

Pictures of my car can be seen at http://www.angelfire.com/ca/purpleacura (sometime in November)

Weakness:

At 200 kms, I had some gearbox problems. Apparently, the 5th gear was having linkage problems. Also...I installed a sub in my car that seems to make everything rattle in my car now if the volume is up. But with lots of bass, i guess I can't expect anything else.

An "almost" BMW at a very reasonable price. I would definatelty suggest looking into the car when purchasing a new vehicle.

Strength:

Fun Quotient, great handling, nice details and features, standard equipment, 2.0 is peppy and gets good fuel mileage,

Weakness:

Lousy dealer network, Lousy warranty, VWoA is not helpful in backing up their products. ALWAYS HAVE TO WAIT FOR PARTS! Auto Trans has a 1-2 sec delay before engaging (really Annoying!)

This is a fun car and good value. I really love driving it. If you can stand long waits for service, parts and indifference from the dealer and VWoA, then go for it. If you have a good independent mechanic, it's a great car. Who cares about cupholders anyways?, drive the da*m thing!

Model Reviewed: VW Jetta 1.8T

Strength:

Jetta 1.8T is a cool car. She(the car has a feminine touch) never keeps you
desiring for more power. Gears changes(manual transmission is what I will
like to advise) are smooth, you can shift to 5th by 40mph, and at 2nd you can reach over 45mph. Inside ergonomics is real admirable, a leather inside is what one should go for. She can travel to 100mph, without you even realising when you reached there. Her handling at high speeds is admirable,
I once had to swerve because of an obstacle at 60mph, and she did it with any problems. Others goodies, include lots of trunk space and lots of features.

Weakness:

Overall warranty is kind of limited. 2yrs/24000m does sound quite less compared to others competitors with 3yrs/36000m. This is probably because of the loads of features, that Jetta comes loaded with. Rear space is kind of limited.

I bought a fully loaded version for about 22.5 grands.
Jetta 1.8T is a real nice car to own.

Similar Products Used:

Checked out the VR6 version of Jetta, well that is faster than 1.8T,
but when taking fuel economy into consideration, 1.8T rates better.

Strength:

Cool Styling, Spacious interior, Smooth and comfortable feel, Impeccable maneuverability and the no nonsense European design.

Weakness:

Gas consumption.

I might have paid 20,000 dollars for it. But the car is worth every penny of it. After driving my Jetta, I feel that expert reviews on Toyotas and Hondas might be biased. I would call this "THE" small sized sedan in the market. Reliability is the last thing one needs to worry about. I would certainly recommend this car to anyone who is on the look out for the best small sized sedan.

Similar Products Used:

Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic. Is definitely a class apart when compared to these Japanese big names. Civic is 10 times noisier than the Jetta.

Model Reviewed: Jetta GLS 2.0

Strength:

Fun-to-drive
Surprisingly torquery considered its a 2.0 8 valver with only 115hp
European driving feel and control
Exceptionally high-quality attention-to-details and workmanship
Comfortable front seats

Weakness:

Tight back seats
2.0L lacks punch when loaded with 4 person
Reliability concern in my initial early production (September 98) Mk 4 series
Lousy dealer service

Considered Jetta's price range, there's nothing you can buy on the market match or exceed its European driving qualities and refinement.
I originally wanted to get either a GLS or GLX VR6 but their waiting lists were sketch to 6-7 months away, exactly same story goes for TDi. All these reasons left 2.0 is only choice.
If I am getting a Jetta again, I will definitely get a 1.8T which combines already excellent value with this great turbocharged engine.

Strength:

german engineering. =) seriously though... strong acceleration, great handling, smooth transmission (auto), great looks (in and out), and standard features (TELESCOPIC STEERING COLUMN?! GET OUT!!! =)

Weakness:

er...

I don't own the Jetta, but i've terrorized the VW dealerships and forced them to let me test drive them at gun-point (JOKING!). The Jetta I drove had the 1.8L turbo in it, AS WELL AS the sport package (17" alloy wheels, wider tires, stiffer suspension). This Jetta totally and completely impressed the hell out of me. The standard features and warranty make me laugh at what other companies offer for the same price-range.

I have a '94 cavalier, which was my first brand-new car (but a step down from my older, much more powerful used-but-healthy '69 camaro). i can't WAIT to get into a Jetta.
