I've only had the car for two weeks and it blows anything away I ever had before. Great car to drive and love the "runway" lights on dash at nighttime.
Weakness:
I think I agree that the cupholders SUCK! I purchased a silver GLS and the salesmen would NOT negotiate a price. I was told that silver VW's are limited. I use to be a Honda owner and got a really good apr rate when I financed my Honda, but VW seems to think they really don't need to do any special rates. Definetely on the pricey side if you want a silver one. I really like the car--the first time I drove the car I was totally impressed. I had no idea how much these cars were in demand. I'm very happy with my purchase and hope that this car will be like my Acrua Integra (lack of repairs!) I've read many statements from other people and hope that with time cars that are being built now have a little more reliability. I'm glad I purchased the car, but talk to me after the warranty period. Similar Products Used: 1999 Honda Civic, 1990 Acura Integra. This car really blows the Civic away. I feel like I have so much pick up and control. My Integra was a great car, but this feels like a "luxury" car. |

Strength:
Fast acceleration from 2nd to 4th gears. Good looks. Paint has lasted well for the time that I have had it. Comfortable drivers and front passenger seats. Nice alloy wheels. Love the fog lights
Weakness:
Slow acceleration in first gear. Cramped back seat. My original cd changer died on me and the VW dealership would not replace it with one of equal quality and instead put an FM modulator in( which by the way do not work well at all). Takes a while to break in gears so they shift smoothly. It is close to the ground so it is hard to put on lifts to do any work on under the car Considering that it was my graduation present I love this car to death. It is fast, sleek and somewhat eyecatching. The trunk space is far better than expected to see from a car of it's size. On the highway it can accelerate quickly for the occasional race or passing of a slower car or truck. Being that it is a front wheel drive standard it handles well in the snow that we see so often up here. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Good looks. 5-speed, 4-cylinder engine was surprisingly fun to drive. Extremely reliable. Low maintenance. Large trunk, I could stick all kinds of stuff in there. Decent stereo.
Weakness:
No big problems at all. Didn't like how the rear seat wasn't split so if you had to put the rear seat down you had to put the whole thing down. Other than that no complaints I purchased my 94 Jetta III GL for $8000 used with 67k miles on it. I drove the vehicle for about two years and I had absolutely no mechanical problems at all with it. I sold the vehicle when it had 90k miles on it and it was running great. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone. I love Volkswagens and the Jetta is much funner to drive than most other comparable cars such as the Civic or newer Sentras. Despite smaller engine I was impressed with how easily the car shifted and accelerated. If you're a skier or snowboarder though you're gonna wanna invest in a ski rack because the rear seat doesn't split. So if you wanna put your skis or snowboard in the car then you better not plan on anyone sitting in the rear seat. Similar Products Used: '93 Ford Probe GT; '98 Honda Civic Sedan...My 94 Jetta GL didn't have the horsepower compared to the Probe but I loved to drive it anyway. The Jetta drives way nicer than the much newer Civic. More power and funner to drive. |

/ Jetta GLX w/ Sports Suspension and 17" Wheels-VR6
Strength:
-Great Handling
Weakness:
-Small Rear Seating, Ok for Two Adults I bought this car about a month ago and I am totally impressed with this car. This has more luxury items than you can imagine and has the look and feel of a good small luxury sedan. I don't know if its the sports suspension or the 17" wheels, but with the VR6 engine this thing can really perform. Just returned from a long 1200 mile trip and was able to drive this on some narrow mountain road and open Highways. Taking Corners was very good with very little body lean and acceleration was outstanding at any speed. Was able to open it up on some stretches of Highway (I'm not going to say how fast, but very fast) and this car had plenty of power and smooth engine performance with the automatic transmission. Have never had so much fun driving a car and compared to most other American and Japanese cars on the road, the quality and performance of this VW really out classes them. This car is not the "ultimate driving machine", but its close in quality and performance, esp. for the price. Similar Products Used: -Toyota Camery and Avalon |

Great looking car and loads of fun to drive. They have come a long way with the VW Jetta's.
Weakness:
Cupholders (who's brainy idea was it to put the cup holders up there and they can barely hold anything decently). I think dealers always claim that anything on a vehicle that has a warranty problem is "NORMAL", I beg to differ with them about that. When I bought my car in Aug of 2000, no noises came from the A/C unit. Now in Oct of 2000 it makes loud noises and vibrates badly and they have the gall to tell me it is "NORMAL" Similar Products Used: 1996 VW Jetta GL: I never had one problem with this car. It was a very reliable and fun to drive also. |

I like the looks of the car and the gas mileage.
Weakness:
Worst painjob on a car that I have ever owned. The cupholders are a complete joke. The Monsoon stereo speakers are staticy and it's hard to pick up stations sometimes. The leather is of marginal quality. I've owned the car since April and it only has 1200 miles on it, but the thing rattles like a car with 75,000 miles on it. I like the looks of the car, but there are some problems that keep me from considering another one. The dealers seem to think that nothing can be done wrong with VW. I questioned the paint and they asked me what I had done wrong. The car sits in a garage all day. The rattles (took 3 weeks to get an appointment). I asked them to fix one in particular in the dash and the car came back with a scratched CD Unit and 3 or 4 more rattles. If you're considering the VW, make sure you go to a good dealer. I live in Dallas with several dealerships, but have yet to found a good one. Similar Products Used: Honda Accord coupe-owned and loved it |

the 1.8T engine, the build quality of a German car.
Weakness:
reat seats headroom is not very comfortable for adults who's over 6 feet. I would definitely recommend anyone who's in the market to buy a German car but doesn't want to pay over $25000. I paid $22500 (tax excluded) for my GLS automatic (I am lazy, I know), leather, luxury package, and monsoon sound system. I have just over 600 miles and loved everyone of them. I immediately changed my in-dash cassette receiver to a Pioneer DEH-9200R CD player, the sound is very good even for factory speakers. The VR6 is a more powerful engine but the mpg suffers greatly, I get in average of 25 and it's a combination of city/highway driving. A important factor considering the gas prices these days. This is also a very pretty car, the interior is made of high quality material, the door closed with authority (thump). The leather seats are supportive but you have to adjust the settings to your liking. Don't get the black leather surface if you live in places where you get temperatures of 100+ regularly. I got the gray interior and it still burns in the summer when I let the car stand in the sun for 3-4 hours. Yes this car is built in Mexico but so what, I have had no problems thus far. It's the people who built this car that's responsible for the quality of the car, not the place it's built. I truly believe this is a poor man's version of the BMW. If you have the money, go for the 3-series or the 5-series, but if you can't justify the huge price difference, this is the car you want. Similar Products Used: Honda Accord, Infiniti G20t. |

Jetta GLS w/VR6 5 speed
Strength:
Looks, performance and Volkswagen integrety. Quality of materials
Weakness:
Back seats lack room for adults. The VR6 is not real economical, but worth it. The front wheels are always covered in brake dust! They must use some cheap pads at the factory. Temperature gauge intermittantly works I like this car, but not as much as my previous 1992 Jetta. The ride is way to soft, and it has the tendency to bounce. I have begun modification on the suspension with all Neuspeed equipment which worked great on my A2 Jetta. I get about 300 miles on a tank, wheras my '92 got about 400 mpg. The performance of the VR6 is worth the loss in economy. The overall looks and quality of materials is there, but the back seat is short on legroom. The brakes generate alot of dust, and I find myself cleaning them twice a week. In 6 months, the only problems I have had are the engine light, which was repaired by the dealer, and now the temperature gauge intermittantly works. I would reccomend this car to anyone who wants a German engineered car for under 30K Similar Products Used: Altima GXE |

MADE IN MEXICO...I haven't had any problems, but I know lots of people who have had LOTS I paid $25000 CANADIAN, which is about $15000 american for a FULLY loaded GLS. Its the best car I've driven. The back seat doesn't have much room, but what matters is how much room you have. The key is the coolest thing in the world, WINS MOST UNIQUE DESIGN. The only thing I don't like is the fact that its made in Mexico, and the cupholder SUCKS Similar Products Used: 2000 Volvo, HA...Familly car??? |
