Volkswagen Jetta (2005 - 2010) Midsize | Compact

Volkswagen Jetta (2005 - 2010) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The fifth generation Volkswagen Jetta Mk5 debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show on 5 January 2005. One major change to the Mk5 is the introduction of the first multi-link independent rear suspension in a VW Jetta.

Styling reflects a new direction for the Volkswagen brand, with a new chrome front grille, first seen on the Golf Mk5 R32, which has since spread to other Volkswagen models.

The Jetta available in the U.S., is powered by a 2.5 litre 5-cylinder 20-valve engine in most trims. In North America, the Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) diesel engine was not offered in five U.S. states when the Mark 5 Jetta was introduced, due to the tight emission standards promulgated by the California Air Resources Board. In addition to California, four other states adopted the more stringent California standards.

Strength:

cheap on gas i get about 49ml/g if i short shift(i have extra transmission)unique square look, resale value, trunk space, big bumpers and logical german design ie.only one light indicates for left and right turn signal

Weakness:

car is light and in the rain impossible to stop, plastic everywhere if you touch it may break, seats take forever to recline(destroys the mood with women) order small coffee no front cup holder-so not german.

a mexican jetta is as authentic as a taco bell taco. If you have a german made jetta you will know what i mean. So if you buy one after 92' make sure it is a GLX with vr6 as it is made in germany. I bought the car for $2500canadian $ and got offer 2 years later for $6500 so i guess its goodbye.(reason only has 58000 kilos). The car is amazing on gas and the only respectable word is PEPPY, as it is not fast. do not buy the auto as it eats into the power..I would recomend the car to anyone except those of you who live in the north west usa as the car is very dangerous in the rain. we see many jetta owners push there cars way past 300kilos and no engine or tranny trouble and the biggest supprise the air still blows cold..IF YOU CAN LIVE BELLOW YOUR MEANS this is the car for you......

style, factory alloys high end looking, mags don't scrape the curb, leather quality, dash and button lites are funky, great stereo, insulated feel, windows controlled by key.

Weakness:

The worst paint job I've ever had on a new car.Even though it's black,it shouldn't turn chaulky after 6 mo.'s.No shine or clear coat, as I was told by the dealer autobdy. Non-metallic colors do not have clearcoat. Minor flaws re;drips&runs in paint.Dealer responds as if they've never heard of a paint problem on any new VW..

Good car for the bucks. The only deisel available in passenger cars. Don't buy non metallic.

Model Reviewed: Jetta GT

Strength:

GT model is very sporty, good acceleration. Nice details in gauges, etc.
Good support from dealership.

Weakness:

Paint finish (black) not as good as expected. The tailpipe (not muffler) fell off within first year.
Since then the body-side molding refuses to adhere to car. It has been put back on both sides of car 3+ times. Car has more creaks and craftsmanship problems than I feel it should have.

As nice as it looks, next car won't be a VW.

From experience, Honda seems to make better cars for the price overall. Jetta feels like it won't last as long as the Hondas.

I love the Tornado Red color. It drives awesome, fast, reliable, definiately get the up-graded Monsoon system. Cozy feel on those cold mornings. The red on blue interior light are the best. My favorite is the key, and how you can close the windows and sunroof with not having to put the key in the ignition.

Weakness:

The back seat is a little cramped. (I don't have kids, but It's kind of tough trying to fit 2 snowboards in the trunk). The black interior attracts tons of lint and hair. I recommend the sticky lint brush for fast clean up.

This car is for the young w/o kids. It may be a smiggen expensive for college students, but if you wheel and deal with the dealer they'll throw in a free window tinting, (it's a must with a black interior). Compared to all the cars I test drove before I made my purchase it is absolutely the best. I'm a Volkswagen driver for life! Unless college pays off and I start making mad $$cash$$, than I'll buy Audi or BMW.

Strength:

I love the way it handles; it's very responsive. Trunk space is nice and the 60/40 split is nice when you have a long item to transport.

Weakness:

I don't like the cup holders. The ones in the front are right over the stereo component and it's hard to reach under it to change from radio to CD. The rear cup holders are in my opinion only for show, I don't dare let my passengers use them. I tried placing a can in one and it promptly fell out!

I did my homework before approaching the dealership and since I'm a woman I guess I impressed them with the knowledge I had of the Jetta. I got a CD player at no extra charge.
I opted for the 2.8 liter engine as I like to drive fast. :)

Strength:

Absolutley Awesome Mileage. average 46 MPG City and (48-55) On Freeway so far. Great drive train, stereo, option level. Good dealership experience. 10,000 mile oil change intervals. Reasonable performance. Car is surprisingly smooth and quiet. 600+ miles per tankful.

Weakness:

Smallish back seat. Not much pricing leeway at the dealer. Suspension tuned a little soft.

Paid $18,300. I would recommend this car to anybody looking for a nice car that is a subcompact sedan. There really isn't anything right now that even comes close. Many of the Japanese cars that compete with this are really boring to me (and I have rented many). There really isn't an American car that even directly competes, except maybey the Ford Focus.

I bought this car just be fore gasoline prices reached above $2 per gallon, while I have consistantly been paying $1.45 for diesel. For me it was the right car at the right time. It is also a good alternative to my gas guzzling Jaguar and Jimmy.

Similar Products Used:

I have had many cars. Frome VW's, domestics, Jaguar, Etc.
This car has a very high quality feel to it. Materials inside are very good for a car that costs less than 20k. Fit and finish is also on par with cars costing much more, my $30k+ Jimmy is not even in the same galaxy. The warranty says alot too, 100k drivetrain, 12 year rust through. I will keep the car for at least 200-300k miles so we will see.

Model Reviewed: SE TDI 115 PD

Strength:

Good power, great torque and great fuel economy. Classic VW build quality, 6 speed box, large boot.

Weakness:

Rear seat space limited

Is the TDI 115 PD unit available yet in the US? It is by far the best diesel car I have driven, 55 mpg combined yet goes like stink! The car oozes understated class and, with the UK version, includes many extras - CD multichanger, alloys, ESP, traction control, A/C, rain sensor. Also has good family sized boot. For the price, there is nothing out there to match it at the moment. Best suited for diesel-nuts, rising execs and small families.

Model Reviewed: Jetta V5 2.3

Strength:

Low-End Torque, Low Internal Noise Levels, Heated Recaro Leather Seats, Build Quality, Driving Position and Location of Controls, Roadholding, High-Speed Cruising Capabilities, Overall Finish, Neat Little Extras (Headlight Low-Beam Height Adjustability, Rain-Sensor Control of Intermittent Wiper Speed, Light-Sensitive Rear-View Mirror that Darkens Automatically, Vanity Lights linked to Mirror Covers, etc), Climate Control that really Works, Decent Stereo System....

Weakness:

Fuel Consumption tends to be a bit on the thirsty side...

Price: R162,000 (at R7.00 = $1.00: $23,100 approx)

I would wholeheartedly recommend this vehicle to anyone considering the purchase of a mid-sized sedan and looking for a combination of luxury and performance at an aggressive price-point.

I took a colleague out for a test drive and within 2 days he'd placed an order for one for himself...

Overall summary:

Excellent value for money in terms of quality, specs, performance, luxury and handling. Here in South Africa, its pricing is aggressive compared to natural competitors such as: BMW 3-series, Audi A4, Volvo S40, Saab 9.3, Alfa Romeo 156, etc.

PS: Heated front seats are great in winter...
