Strength:

Looks, speed, unique design.

Weakness:

Cupholders, road noise.

I really like this car! Granted, its got terrible cupholders and alot of road noise, but it really GOES down the road. Solidly built, safe, and for the most part, reliable.

Strength:

Great looking. The front seats are extrememly comfortable. All controls are logically laid out. The trunk is LARGE when the rear seat is folded down.

Weakness:

The cup holders are still a weak point, although they have been improved slightly. I wish that the ride was a little firmer for deep holes in the pavement.

I now have 8,000 miles on my New Beetle with the 1.8 turbo engine. It is almost a year old and I have not had a single problem. The performance on this car is outstanding and the car drives great. I like this car much better than the two BMWs that I have had as it is actually more fun to drive than they were. Gas mileage has been good - driving 85 MPH for 300 miles with the air on gave 27 MPG. The A/C works great and the car has outstanding headlights. Steering response is very good and the car is extrememly tight - not a single squeak or rattle so far. I would buy this car again in a heartbeat.

Strength:

Many modern "luxury" features, outstanding styling and use of interior space. Great MPG and fun to drive.

Weakness:

No in-dash CD player available, only trunk mounted.

So far this vehicle has been rock solid. No problems to date. The New Beetle comes with many features you wouldn''t normally expect, like heated seats, mirror defrosters, and the excellent Monsoon Sound system. There is ample room even for us "bigger" drivers. It''s amazing how much room there is, in such a little car. Gas mileage is great, even for a Turbo. This car also has some of the highest safety ratings. I feel very comfortable in this car. I feel that all the instruments are in a logical placement in the dash, and very straight-forward to use.

Strength:

Just about everything!

Weakness:

There is a little bit of a blind spot.

I love it! It is by far the best car that I have ever had or ridden in. I have had so much fun with this car. It is going on its third year, with 40,000 miles, and it still runs like a top. It gets great gas mileage, it doesn''t drink oil, and it is a GREAT head turner.

Strength:

Nice drive,(when they go), turns heads, solid build quality.

Weakness:

everthing above plus alloys are a nightmare to clean, seat material is too hard, no rear headroom, slow, no deisel available,

after reading some of the reviews, I am not suprised at the low ratings this car has got, I have had two of them, the first one had a host of problems which the dealer just couldn''t be bothered to fix, eg, fuel filler release mechanism broke, car broke down because of engine management system failure, trunk release would not open the trunk first time, drinks oil, brakes make clunking noises, air conditioning broke down, after a year of returns to the dealer and total dissatisfaction I rejected the car back to Volkswagen and had to threaten them with legal action until they gave me the full asking price, I then bought a newer model hoping it would be better and it was but still drank oil though. I would advise anyone who is going to buy one of these fun cars not to, the fun soon wears out when you have had all the problems to sort out, they are a lovely car to look at but they are not a true Volkswagen as they are built in Mexico, the reliabilty of this car is pathetic and I think they were rushed out to meet demand, but it has now become an embarrasment to Volkswagen, heads should roll!!

Gear''s Change To slow. You have to wait a few seconds before stepping on the gas. Paint on door handles comeing off . Im kind of scared reading all of these reviews. Although the car was purchased as used vehicle , it''s in great condition an runs very well. I have no real big complaints. The car is beautiful

I have only have this car a few weeks . I recieved it as a christmas present. I love The car . Everyone admires it. Great for me being a teenager and not having to carry luggage and not to many passengers. Look''s nice and is Very Fast. I really do love the car so far

Strength:

Everything! Looks, build quality, color, engine. I love the extra headroom (I''m 6''5")and the large dashboard. I like to drive at night so the bluelit dash display is great for visibility, and the headlights are nice and bright.

Weakness:

None!

I really enjoy this car! I will get off work in the evening and come out to the parking lot and see it there and can''t wait to drive it. I still can''t believe it''s mine (or the banks anyway!) The turbo is wonderful. When I need some quickness it''s there. Mileage is what I expected. I had researched this car since before it came on the market, so I feel like it''s a friend and not just a car. I just took it on a 3,000 mile road trip and it did quite well! Mileage was right around 30mpg.

Strength:

Love the big dash- strange at first but now I feel like I''m going through the windshield in all other cars!! Speedy, handles well, stops on a dime, comfortable on long- or short- trips, no one believes I can get 8 bales of pine needles in the trunk- but I can!! Very versatile, small, two door (easy to get into back seat), full of features- the nighttime lighting is the closing item.

Weakness:

Blind spots, cupholders, loud air system, heavy doors, catalytic converter runs rich- very stinky, not realistic to fix/maintain your self, soft suspension makes it a bit floaty on some turns, no low, low volume on stereo, getting front head rests out is a giant pain.

I have read all the reviews on this site and I think they reflect some serious extremes (although I will be getting the extended warranty)! I have had my bug just over a year and am at 25K. I drive a lot - mostly city - and have not had all these reliability issues. The half dozen other NB owners I know have not had these complaints either. I didn''t buy the car for looks- the kid pointing factor is kind of irritating really. I looked for a car I could run into the ground ten years from now. Big bonus though as my service dept is really great. I love that it is small outside, big inside, a lot faster than expected (turbo a must if gas mileage isn’t the primary), and of all the compact cars out there it is the only one that is not treated like a cheap, small car. Comparatively speaking, the quality is well beyond what the others offer. Ok- I went fully loaded and it’s a little pricey- but I rather pay a little more for something that will last and make me happy than have a whole bunch of ‘free’ crap. I wanted the respect of a mid-size in a very small parking spot. I got it. Very Satisfied.

Strength:

Performance, style, roominess (for two adults in front, that is). We also had a good dealer, in terms of service. Car had real personality that set it apart from everything else on the road.''

Weakness:

Poor design of sun visors; the car is a glass bubble, and the tiny visors require constant use of sunglasses in the low-sun-angle times of year. Another flaw is the lowness of the front bumber; we were always hitting wheelstops and other low things that a normal car would go over. The plastic bumper was very easily damaged. Two things failed: the radio (which the dealer replaced under warranty) and the battery (after warranty and under three years old). Otherwise we have had no problems.

Fun, "part of the family", kind of car. We were originally not even considering getting one, being new parents, but the interior space settup was great considering it was such a small car. I have always favored VW handling too, and have been lucky to own VWs that, while requiring occasional service, I never considered over-problematic. However, this being a new and untested line, we decided to lease the vehicle. The car also would not be our main car, not used for commuting or for carrying big things, so our review should be seen in that light. I have become aware of the new Beetles less-than desirable reliability, but know many other equally troublesome models with none of the Beetle''s charm or performance. We are returning the car after the lease, more for our need for a larger vehicle than for service problems. m
