Strength:

Decent Van, If I ever buy another will depend on the outcome of this repair

Weakness:

Lousy brakes, doesn't stop well in an emergency!

I swear, I think GM has a satellite up there that zap's your van soon after it is out of warrenty! I have a 2000 chevy 2500 cargo van that has developed tranmission problems at 38,000 miles, the warrenty was over at 36,000 miles! It is in the shop as I type this! We shall see! I'll let you all know the outcome!

Strength:

Room, amenities when they worked.

Weakness:

three years old and am making repairs that shouldn't be make until 7!!!

Conversion Van found to be bad quality conversion. Probably would never buy conversion again. Poor workmanship, poor quality, poor warranty. GM does not stand by the conversion. Some people may not know this. After three years I have a busted (GM) hinge on the side door. Chevrolet will not fix. Claims there is no problem. GM warranties worthless. Dealership misleading.

Strength:

Big 5.7L V-8, comfort, and all that cool stuff.

Weakness:

Not high up enough. I like big trucks.

Best van I've ever had. It's a Hi-Top conversion van built by Explorer Van Co. Has everything you need:TV, VCR, Front and rear radios, CD player, Power fold down bed in the back, running lights inside, Nintendo hook-ups w/ "cubby" hole(We use an Xbox instead), and a magazine rack. Even though I have all these great gadgits in it I still miss my 1996 GMC Safari.:(

Strength:

It basically a decent truck, lots of leg room for a taller person like me. Decent power and handeling.

Weakness:

Poor quality materials and assembly. It would be nice to see a company take pride in its work stand behind it product instead of looking for excuses not to, or making it so difficult to get service you go elsewhere just to get it done. And because of that , it has forced me to purchase a non-american made vehicle just to get the service, reliability, and durability that I need in a vehicle, since one is not offered by an american manufacturer that can match the service and warranty of the foreign dealer.

I am a remodeling contractor and bought this 1 ton (supposedly heavy duty) van figuring it would last a few years. I had a 1984 3/4 ton Chevy van and it performed almost flawlessly the entire time I had it. (In retrospect, it outperformed this new 1 ton I have now) Hoping for the same luck, I bought the new Chevy. After two years of use, I am truly disappointed in Chevy. with only 92,000 miles on it (I drive a lot of highway miles too) it has chewed up 5 sets of brakes, dealer said that it was "normal" (GM's stock answer), the intake manifold gasket needs to be replaced, the cheap plastic trim pieces in the drivers compartment keep poping off, the bottom seal on the passanger door window keeps popping off, the door hinges on the side cargo doors rust so bad you can't hardly open them. Half a can of WD-40 and some soaking frees them up for a rainstorm or two. Part of one hinge, the cast iron part broke off. The dealer said that because it was out of warranty, I would have to cover the cost of the repairs, and since the hinges for some unknown reason are WELDED on, the cost will not be cheap. Same with the other problems. Out of warranty! GM can't be too proud or confident in a product to give such a poor warranty period. When asking the dealer about repairs, they say to "leave it here and we will get to it as soon as we can." Being self employed, having the truck out of service for more than a day or two is not an option, if I don't work, I don't make money. I asked about making an appointment to reduce the down time, explaining the situation, but they were unsimpathetic. Bought three vehicles from them in as many years and before signing the papers they promised anything to get the sale, but service after the fact has been a nightmare. Thank God I have friends that are knowledgeable in auto repair that fixed most of the problems for a fraction of what the dealer quoted in a fraction of the time. My feeling: Chevy and GM- NO MORE! Tried Ford- Sorry. Tried Dodge- Not again. I have a new medium duty foreign truck on order to replace the 1 ton, and my son is getting ready to order a new foreign SUV because of how dismal the american ones are. I know a lot of auto workers, heard their stories. I even sub-contracted in some auto plants and seen first hand what happens on an assembly line. Enough said.

Strength:

Excellent Starcraft conversion. Monster engine. Smooth but sturdy transmission. Tons of room inside. AC actually works in both the front and rear, a welcome change from most conversion vans in south Florida.

Weakness:

Gas mileage is about what you''d expect for a enormous, heavy vehicle with an oversized engine. It uses a LOT of gasoline.

This is a beautiful all-the-way conversion by Starcraft and it has been a joy to own and drive. This is a BIG van, but it isn''t all that difficult to maneuver around in parking lots, drive-throughs, etc. What little factory interior that was left is fair to pretty good, but the conversion stuff is superb. The engine is more than ample, and my two kids have acres of room in the back. The most astonishing thing is that this jet-black beauty is very cool and comfortable all year long. Since we live in the Everglades, this is a VERY important issue for us. I''m a big guy, and have found that many full-size vans don''t have a lot of legroom for the driver--this one does. The windshield and side windows are very, very large, which is great for visibility and adds to a sense of being in a large, uncrowded space.

1993 Chevy G20 with Regency Conversion--we drove this one into the ground. It''s last two years were pretty rough: the a/c went crummy, and the engine ran ragged after about 150k no matter what we did

Strength:

Strong engine (mine is the 5.7) and trans. Very roomy and comfortable inside. Great tow vehicle.

Weakness:

TV / VCP in overhead housing of conversion. Extremely high heat bakes the electronics.

I bought this van used. It is a Gladiator conversion. Both the TV and VCP went within the first month. Luckily, the dealer was very good about having it replaced at no charge. I can''t imagine electronics like these lasting more than a year or two being up in the roof of the conversion. It''s gotta be a bit hot up there all summer. Other than that, my van has been great. It pulled my 29'' 5000 lb. camper all over New England last summer. No problems with overheating, shifting, etc. I did install a trani cooler prior to towing. The conversion package heating and cooling works good and the leather seats are very comfortable on long trips. The kids love the fold down bed in the back. It now has 58,000 miles on it and I guess the real test will be the next couple of years. My rating is based on my first 1.5 years of ownership. We''ll see how I feel after the next couple of summers towing the camper.

Strength:

Strong engine. Trans is great.

Weakness:

Gas pedal sticks. The gas pedal just about falls off to. You have to keep pushing the pin in so it doesn''''t.

We like the van. Lots of room. Rides very nicely. Engine has lots of power. We have only one problem with it. The gas pedal will stick when the weather gets cold. It is currently sitting at the Chev dealer. It has been there 2 other times. They cannot find out what is wrong with it. It is not the throttle cable. When it sticks, it will stick as long as you do not touch the gas pedal.
